I'm 47 and physically recovered for many years now from anorexia at 13 and bulimia from 19-30 (now diabetic unfortunately but pick your disease I guess) and I would say that the psychological depression/low self esteem and the body image problems linger even still for me now. Interestingly I KNOW I would NEVER go back to the ED despite not feeling good about myself. Simply because I know starvation doesn't end prettily, and bulimia doesn't work to prevent weight gain. That's the honest truth right there. So I eat - I love food and I eat plenty. Sadly yes I am now diabetic and honestly unable to restrict any kind of food ever again so I have to accept my insulin resistance and fat body. Happiness and worth has to be found elsewhere....I'm still looking. I'm grateful for my life and my children though. I was able to have kids.
