Hey! My name is Arron Skillen (Skillo) and I have created this channel as a vlog to follow my journey of completing backyard restorations and 4WD adventures with the aim of providing edu-tainment to all aspiring backyard restorers & car enthusiasts. I would also like it to serve as a community to learn & share content about all stages of backyard car restoration; showing that anyone with the right attitude can give it a go.

Personally i prefer the look of my 74 series over a 80 and much prefer the 74 interior . But coils all round obviously superior in many ways . Looking forward to seeing your progress 👍
No it wasn’t difficult at all. Two wires into the module and then in three gauge setting, you customise the sweep of the sender. So it is fully customised

Looking forward to seeing the end result. As an 80 series 1hdt owner I would like to see the comparison. Just a note on the use of copper based lubricants on aluminium, it's not the best thing to do, copper and aluminium is a recipe for electrolosys. You would be far better off using a nickle based lube
I had similar issues with the torque wrench snapping bolts, i found going to a smaller torque wrench with a max of 25nm and 1/4inch shank meant it torqued correctly. i Think it haas something to do with how a spring works and how it isnt aas aaccurate in the low and high end of the range. Hey Mate, Where did you get the bottom end specs from? I have a Haynes manual but it does not have the specs and measurements for the crank, bores, pistons etc...
If the v8 common rail conversion would give a big jump in HP and economy to 1HDT-FE then I could understand it but with all the short comings of 1VD **** and poor fuel figures when towing, really would like to see someone do 1HDT*** build with say MAHLE custom steel pistons etc and even a common rail conversion
Horses for courses isn’t it. I did mull over an FTE swap, but knowing that I am unlikely to tow with this (given I have a 200 as well) I wanted something proven in the bush, with a bit of poke that also sounded the goods. Hence the 1VD got the nod 😂
@vincegiulitto you’ll see in the episode after next 😉. Luckily I have a guy that has figured it all out so mounts coming. Plus, I’m going to be doing the bonnet scoop mod anyway
@SS - As soon as u dropped that bolt I was yelling "butterfingers!!" But seriously, that's allot of stuff stuffed into that valley; and if any coolant lines get crossed - another nightmare going back in to retrace a mirade of intricate details. In any case, glad I subbed. Looking forward to the next vid.
Don’t worry…I was yelling too 😂! Yeah it is quite intimidating that valley but putting it back together made logical sense actually so not as bad. But geez I relied on those photos I took. So glad I did 😮💨
Thanks mate. Yeah it was intimidating the entire way! The book was pretty good actually. A lot of little bits in there that I wouldn’t have been aware of without so definitely paid for itself
I had worse. Dropped a 10mm socket in a cylinder head... Hunted for her..... Found a 12mm.. tore motor down. Found the 10mm socket.😢 Motors been in parts for 8 years now. Cars had 3 cheep replacement motors since 😂😂😂
took me 2 weeks to get the head off. Reconditioned the head, put back together, 2 months later the big ends went. Bastid thing has been sitting in the back yard for months now.

ive been there, and done that, with different engines. i feel your pain. i snapped a a plug in my vdj 200 v8, i thought, fuck it. i,m not pulling the engine down. it starts and runs fine on 7 plugs. but you,ve broken more, i would have gone and got drunk.
@@skillosshed oh, one more thing. i had an injector get loose and cause damage, so i checked the other injector hold down bolts and 5 were out of torque spec.. there's only one small bolt per/injector. i recommend checking them.
Hey mate Just seen the way you mounted the column to the dash. You will probably find the engineer will need you to put a break away point there like the Vr had
Yeah right. I’ll have a chat with them. I mounted it the same way as I did on my 45/80 series as the outside tube is separate from the inner spline which is collapsible. That was fine. Will keep you posted
Mu brain kicks straight into ‘is there a way around it’ mode. Parts are less likely to fall into the chambers if you roll the motor onto it’s side almost upside down. There are specialized glow plug extractor kits available from Repco etc…. The problem is that common. You may have thought of these already😉
Yeah have mate, but I was in two minds about pulling the heads off anyway…so this has just locked me into it. Can use the money for that tool toward the machining 😂. Such a pain but I’ll then have basically a new engine (save for doing the bottom end)
