The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with more than 3.7 million members in more than 9,300 congregations across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. Known as the church of "God's work. Our hands," the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians and service in the world. The ELCA's roots are in the writings of the German church reformer, Martin Luther.

Set free to love your neighbor? Hope it is that simple? Service? That is what Jesus preaches? So most Christian denominations in the world. We live in this world Bishop. This world not that simple! So diverse? So many tribes? You want to be a Lutheran tribe? Why not S. Baptist or Methodist? They all preach the same thing. Love God love your neighbor. Message here for 2000 years. You want Lutherans to own it when it is free to anyone. Sorry Bishop. I come from W. Godavari Dt in AP India where my mother comes from. I attended a Lutheran Church started by U.S missionaries from Pennsylvania. It was not much of a Church. It was a thatched shed serving both as a Church & grade school I attended. I see no point in dividing Jesus into so many denominations when message the same!
Unfortunately, "they all preach the same thing" is not true within the United States. There are many who preach and teach that God's grace and love must be earned through our obedience to the laws and behavioral codes of the Old Testament. There are also many who preach and teach that God is ultimately a cosmic vending machine who will give us anything and everything we want if only we would deposit enough prayers, good deeds, and financial gifts into the coin slot. That being said, I agree with many of your comments. In baptism, Christ sets us free to love and serve our neighbors. And congregations gathering in thatched sheds can do wonderful ministry in their communities.
ELCA has flown off the rails and onto the woke path and injected far too many opinions and strayed too far from the Bibles direct teachings in order to attract more congregants. It is quite sad when the Church feels the need to change to appease society
@@davidwaller1736 I believe you mean to say that the ELCA is following the calling of the Holy Spirit and the example of Jesus revealed to us in the Bible as we discern how we can serve our neighbors in the name of God.
