The earth is a sphere, and it's diameter was known 200 years before Christ was born. It isn't a hard experament. Have a friend 70 miles north of you (*) take an angle reading on the sun at about noon. You do the same. You will find a one degree difference. Then have your friend go 70 miles south and do the same experiment. One degree again. East, and call on a cell phone to make sure you both do it at the same time. One, or more than one degrees. Same if you go east. (**) If you're on a globe, the sun is distant. If you're on a flat earth, the sun is 4,000 miles away according to the north-south readings, or closer according to the east-west readings. The math literally doesn't work for the flat earth case. (*) Okay, 69.2 miles. (**) At the 45th parallel, you only have to go 48 miles east or west to get a one degree angle on the sun. By going 70 miles, you will get 1.45 degrees. This would put the sun 2700 miles above the earth.

To be fair, 95% of people take "the Earth is a globe" on faith. They were told it's a globe, and they said "okay, that makes sense I guess." They didn't conduct any experiments or do any research, or consider satellites or orbital mechanics or any of that stuff. The Earth IS a globe, but the moral superiority of people who take one predominantly faith-based position over another is asinine.

You don't have to do any research you just have to look at every other thing you can see in the sky and realize it's a globe also if you ever been to the ocean once in your life and see a ship disappear over the horizon

A Commonwealth state is just like any other state in the Union. They handle support proceedings just like the rest. I think the Commonwealth designation came from certain states being chartered and settled due to a royal decree.
