My name is Ray. Follow me in my 2024 Ram Power Wagon (aka Red Beast - formerly known as Red Beast Wagon) as I modify the truck for better offroading capabilities, add camping gear and have fun offroading and overlanding the Red Beast with friends. Hopefully the videos will be helpful to viewers looking for additional information on the Ram Power Wagon and modifications along with some fun overlanding adventures.
Thanks for the video! I've been looking to do the same. For the price compared to other 38s on the market. You can't best it. Yes, 40s some day, ha ha!
Thanks for watching. I like the Milestar M/T 02 tires so far (only have around 1200 miles on them at this point). You can definitely make 38s work and full flex on the 5th gen Power Wagons. However, 40s would require some more serious trimming.
Thanks. Working on it. I will have a lot more videos coming soon. I will be close to finish building the truck out during the next 8 weeks adding lots of cool stuff (rack, RTT, awnings, 12 position switch, 8 sets of offroad lights, high clearance front and rear bumpers, etc). Once I get my RTT installed, I will be offroading and camping more. 🥳🎉
This was a great event with great people from the Venture Unknown Foundation! 14 teams removed 101,312 lbs of trash in one day from 10 states and 12 national forests in one day!
Nice. That makes sense as the diesel engine is heavier than the gas version, so unloaded in the rear it would be less weight distribution percentage than on the gas version. One way I found to get the tires evenly loaded is to measure with a level the loaded tire height. Once they are both the same height between the front to rear you have a pretty good idea of the pressure differential to run between the front and the rear with that given weight at the time.
Still happy. It is a great setup and rides better than the factory did. The Carli R2 coils in the rear are great if you load up the truck. With those I still have a nice “rake” with the rear higher than the front by 1” with it fully loaded+.
It's a nice solid piece. I installed mine before my ORBDR trip. Definitely gives you piece of mind protecting that plastic pan. Marcus is a cool dude, and super helpful.
Problems of not knowing anyone with a flex ramp lol. 😂 I'm in the same camp. When I want to glex mine out, I go to Bays Mountain Off Road in Knoxville TN and hit a red trail.
@@redbeastadventures that sounds like fun. I need some underbody protection before I start doing serious stuff. Also need new shocks and want new wheels, tires, axle shafts, ball joints... Just Empty Every Pocket, right? In your case I guess it's Request All Money. 😂
If you have the factory wheels, then no worries as there is a spot face at those locations to clear those washers. On other non-factory wheels, you may develop a stress crack where it bolts to the hub because those assembly washers don’t let the wheel sit flush when torquing the lugs down. On my wheels I actually deformed the back of the wheel some almost creating a spot face in those areas before I had them removed.
Grean video... I have a '22 and love it. The back side of the front wheel well was a little tricky. Offset of the rims are important. I have the Black Rhino Armory rims with the -18 offset and 35in. Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's. I still have some minor rubbing when the wheel is fully cranked over bumps... I also replaced my fender flares with Bushwaker and the Dominator D6 rails... helped keeps rocks of the sides... :)
Thanks for watching. Your offset ends up 36mm more outwards than mine. Have you tried trimming up the pinch weld some (have to remove the plastic bottom trim piece, assuming you already probably have). Also, the cutting of in the inner fender liner and putting a plastic piece back like I did may help with your rubbing.
Thanks for making these videos, I was searching for tires on power wagons and came across this video and subsequently watched a few of your other videos, a lot of great information and though it is probably different than where I’ll initially go with my stock power wagon it definitely gives me a guide for what is possible and some ideas to be included for sure ( like moving the differential breather tubes and using dielectric grease on electrical connections ) Thanks and keep the wheeling videos coming
Thanks for watching. When I initially decided on getting a Power Wagon I couldn’t find many videos with details about various upgrades and decided to start this channel to help other PW enthusiasts find that information. Glad it is helping. I have quite a few more upgrades planned as well over the next 10 weeks (new bed cover, rack that works with Ramboxes, RTT, awnings, offroad lights and new high clearance bumpers). Definitely some more adventure videos after I get my RTT installed.
@@redbeastadventures great I’ll be interested in how you work around the ram boxes as I have them also, I’m sure you belong to a group or forum already, I have found a power wagon group on facebook that I search for info very helpful and a ram box group also though the ram box group includes the different bed lengths, only drawback to them is sometimes there’s a lot of choices and opinions to wade through but I guess that’s a good drawback, cheers and thanks again Just watched your latest were you flex the beast out with the 38’s Excellent I’d really like to put Fab Four fender flares on mine someday just not ready to start cutting metal on mine yet
@@Ryan-ls2wo Thanks for watching. Waiting for my Dethloff Mfg Contour Rack to ship. It is a pretty cool rack made with 2" OD steel 0.120" thick tubing and it works with the Ramboxes. Will be making a video of the installation and a walkaround of the rack after it is installed.
The trail was not that technical and I spent more time hanging out having fun then filming this time around. The next adventure to Windrock Park will definitely have more footage.
Looks great. I've been watching your vids. Would be great to hit some trails with you. I have a 24 PW...Green, Dragon Wagon. I just installed the Dethloff skids, diff skids, WK XL sliders and Thuren rear track bar will be installed next weekend. Running stock rims with 35's and 4:10 gears. Dual Borla exhaust. I'm in NW Florida so TN is close.
I’m still on 35” but it blows me away how these trucks make big tires look small! 37’s look normal and bigger than that look only slightly big. Looks great though!
Thanks. I agree with you on the tire sizes on a PW. Those same 38” tires look pretty big on a Jeep Gladiator. I have done a little more tweaking on the inner fender area on the cab side on the Red Beast to make sure I can max flex them on the trail which I will be testing out in 10 days. These are definitely full sized 38s.
🤣 You never know. I would have to do serious modifications and trimming on the rear part of the inner fender area to fit 40s. I think I will stop at the 38s.
I am running 1-1/2" over factory in the front and 2" in the rear (PW factory). So on a normal 2500 (3.5" in front and 4" in rear). I will be max flexing it soon. I did some minor trail riding recently and did well. I am tweaking the inner front fender clearance (on the lower cab side) to add even more room before taking it out for some serious offroad flex testing at Windrock Park.
@@redbeastadventures nice. Amazing how much tire that thing will hold with just a little bit of lift and some light trimming. What's the gearing like on it?
@@backwoodstherapy It has the stock 4.10 gears. I have not found a company that makes replacement gears for the 5th gen PWs as they are not the same axle as a standard 2500 truck. However, with the 392 Hemi, the 8 speed transmission and the 50:1 crawl ratio, the truck has plenty of power on the road and off road. It is difficult to tell the acceleration difference between the 33s, 37s and the 38s as the first gear in the transmission is very low. The truck doesn’t feel like it has 38s on it.
@@redbeastadventures yeah I imagine with that amount of torque the difference between 33s and 38s isn't that noticable compared to something like a Wrangler. Great ride tho. Looking forward to the windrock video.
Unfortunately my Windrock Park trip got canceled. 😢 I ended up going to Brown Mountain to do some flex testing and it worked well with that video coming out sometime later this week. I will definitely be hitting Windrock Park this year especially after I get my RTT installed.
I didn't take anything off, I just did the zip tie trick and no rubbing lock to lock, I am running the Patagonia MT02 37's on Vision Turbine 353 17x8.5.
In a one take RU-vid video, sometimes you don’t say the exact proper terms. Could have said some grading company I guess, but someone came to mind at the time. 🤷♂
@@redbeastadventures did you notice the newly installed gates on each end also ....and it is now scheduled to be a season only road on the USDA forest service web page .....may be on the closed list soon . Same as Richland Rd , flatlands , old house gap , tray mountain , and many others in the recent years
Brother I just want to tell you how much I've been enjoying your videos over the last month or so as I've been hunting for a new truck. Imagine my surprise when I discovered your stomping grounds are in/around western NC. I was born in Waynesville but live outside of Raleigh now. Just purchased a '24 PW in patriot blue and it's being delivered to me on Monday. I'm excited as hell and I'm already looking at new tires I want and plan to order the dethloff engine/tranny armor to get it installed asap. Love your vids, keep up the good work man!
Awesome. Thanks for watching. Congrats on the new PW. I thought about the blue as well (great color) but I ended up with my normal go to color Red. Check out and join the Southeastern Power Wagon facebook group if interested for other PWs in the area. Getting my new 38s mounted in a few days. 😀
I put 35” tires on 20” wheels on my 2024 Power Wagon. Can I fit the same for my spare or just keep the stock spare because I have no choice? That is what is am guessing.
I think you have a chance in fitting the 35” spare in that location with a couple of caveats. One is you will probably have to air it down to squeeze it in. Secondly, you may need to put a ratchet strap around the tire to compress it to fit. You may need to tweak and adjust the tire heat shield to make it fit. A 34” spare fits with no issue, but 35” would be tight. Also, if the tire is a “big” 35 it may be bigger in diameter than say a BFG tire which typically runs slightly smaller in diameter. Hope this helps.
Love that you're using the Power Wagon for what it's supposed to be used for and not just a pavement princess like most trucks. Keep up the good work. Happy trails!
Thanks. I am definitely putting the truck through its paces and so far it has performed flawlessly. It is by far the most capable 4wd truck I have ever had over the years and I should have gotten one of these years ago. The ability for the Red Beast to keep all of its tires on the ground through obstacles is impressive.
@@backwoodstherapy For sure. As well as disconnecting swaybar... With the Thuren suspension change I gained even more articulation over the factory. Wheel travel went from 8" to 9.5" in the front and from 9" to 11" in the rear. Looking forward to getting the Red Beast on a ramp to measure the vertical distance of articulation to verify it. Factory would be around 27.5" and I think I will be pushing 30 to 33" with all the tires on the ground.
@@redbeastadventures I've always wanted to use one of those ramps to measure my travel. I don't know anyone around here that has one. Maybe I'll come across one at the Smokey Mountain Jeep Invasion next month. I'm on a Teraflex 2.5" coil spring lift myself. Manually disconnecting sway bar but my electric rachet means I can disconnect in about 30 seconds.
