Just wanted you to know that you’re also reaching people under 20 years old if you didn’t know🙏🏽 .Very well explained, thanks for telling us the real meaning and getting straight to the point of it. I came across this concept when I watched the movie Perfect Days a couple of months ago and it’s a beautiful way of living life. By being more appreciative of the small things in life since people nowadays forget to cherish the small moments. Those are the ones we’ll be missing the most in the future so everyone should try to appreciate the moment no matter how small it might be. Appreciate living. Thanks for the explanation Azumi:)

in college, I had a debate with a Japanese student about the nature of time and he INSISTED that time wasn't linear. I was so perplexed. I have even thought about that discussion later in life; but now I see. thank you for introducing this concept. thank you so much

I have a question and I will be glad if You will answer it :) The question is DO japanese people believe in what they are practise? I mean, do they really believe in Souls, Afterlife, a Reincarnation and other things which are in Shinto and Buddhism? Or it's just a routine like christians celebrate Christmas and Easter even if they don't believe in Christ and God. Thank You for Your video!

Thank you! In Japan, we respect and honour any sacred space, souls, spirit, divine energy, either believe or not. These subjects are treated as precious personal choice and we don’t make it right or wrong. Among those who pursue and explore spirituality we would talk about it, but in general, we don’t randomly ask each other. In general, life philosophy of Shinto is deeply in our culture and customs. We practice it and honour and respect the spirit and energy around us!

@@JapaneseSalon Oh and another one, if you allow me. After the death of celebrities, I have seen fans leave farewell messages for their idols. I don't know japanese so I can't write their messages in original, but in translate I remember phrases like See you next life, See you in afterlife, Good bye (Mata ne). Are these phrases used by spiritual people or are they standard like "Rest in Peace" in Western culture? Or is it just as individual and depends on the person? I'm sorry if my questions seem pushy or tactless🥲

In Poland, we celebrate All Saints' Day on November 1st, during which we light candles on the graves of our loved ones and, of course, pray for them. It's not as elaborate a holiday as yours, and we lack that spirituality here. I think gratitude to parents for the gift of life is very important for us, and forgiveness for everyone, especially ourselves, is a fundamental matter in our lives! Perhaps you're familiar with Bert Hellinger and his family constellations, I highly recommend it. Everything you said is true, and I'm glad we feel the same way. It's a great pleasure and honor that I can listen to you. Warm greetings, dear Azumi. 🤗❣

Thank you for the explanation. Some times an imperfect is viewed as perfect. Few years ago I found out about the word "baroque" art era as relates painting and music era ( Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, etc.). This word I think was originated from wild or cultured pearls ending up having oval or tear drop pearls. They are beautiful, yet not perfectly round! Such a pearl was used by Van Cleef & Arples in designing the queens crown for the crowning of the Persian queen! Or if you read about St. Margherita ( Margaret) of Castello, she was beautiful inside yet, she was a dwarf, blind, club footed and hunchback! She had a beatufil heart ❤️!

Thanks you so much. That was very interesting to me, having been an accountant for 40 years in my working life. Strangely, I never had the usual western accountant's approach to money, but something quite similar to the interesting explanation, which you kindly offered. The Western approaching to measuring 'success' by the amount of money, is actually quite repugnant.

At 3:00, I don't want to burst your bubble but that's how religion is around most cultures of the world. In anthropology we can observe the same concepts and core ideals in thousands of animistic religions like Shintoism. The same concepts apply to Christian blessings, using smoke from incense or holy water to purify or reset the place or person's health or neutrality, as beans do (oni wa soto) or mikoshi do in driving away bad spirits and luck from the area they pass through. I think Japan was introduced to Buddhism long ago but after it was institutionalized by those in power the harmony was a forced aspect. The revitalization of Shinto after the Meiji Restoration no doubt brought a lot of focus back towards Shinto. Great video and interesting topic 👍
