I had the job of pilot for the observer plane for an offshore race in Sarasota years ago. Fun times. Crazy when the boats are going faster than we were.....
I was a beechcrafter in the late 70’s early 80’s just before the starship development. Would have been interesting to see the big auto claves and composite work areas. Much better looking airplane than the later piaggio canard (which was more successful).
Yeah, this video not only captures the spirit of flat-out racing; but it makes that flat-out spirit contagious. I watch it regularly, at least the last 10 years. But be careful if its playing while driving your car. Especially if you're kicking @$$ at work. Like mainlining adrenaline!
Dissenting voice . The sound of this airplane is so singular that it's sacrilege to play music rather than the sound of this plane in flight . Like a Ferrari video without engine sound . killer plane
To this day. I still consider this one of the most Beautiful airplanes ever built. From what I heard the FAA had a lot to do with it's failure of performance and fuel economy do to many changes they required because of the state of the art composites that were being used in its construction.
@@jadefalcon001 There are still a bunch flying. One guy has a few, & bought up a bunch of them for parts, so he can keep his flying the rest of his life!
Man, I never would have guessed that vintage Army Air Corps paint scheme would so drastically change and IMPROVE the whole affect of that little plane. Somebody made an excellent choice, and somebody did an excellent job. Now it would fit right in with the Chipmonks and the Stearmans ... Stearmen .. Stea ... Lol .. Call it the PT-415, right?

@@scottc5619 It's "Battle without Honor or HUMANITY" and Tomoyasu composed it 3 years before Kill Bill in 2000 for a Japanese yakuza movie "New Battles without Honor or Humanity."
Looked really great but had some problems. The composite structure had a conductive aluminiun layer (like the PBLS layer used today) which corroded. Because pt6 config meant that the exhaust went through the propeller the prop blade hubs corroded. I changed two engine mounts (I think number 1 eng) which cracked due to vibration. It ended up with loads of large anti-vibration (like large tuning forks) dampers bolted to the inner fuselage skins. There was other problems but I can't remember, ive not seen one since the mid 90's. Still think it would have been worth developing. Beechcraft learned a lot from this aircraft especially in composites a lot of which was used in the B390 but that had its own set of problems and is no longer in production either! Thats aviation for you!
NC-51 is 23 years old and has experienced zero corrosion of the conductive screen. We just overhauled the props and the hubs were found to be within spec and were returned to service. The tuning forks were for noise cancellation, not vibration. Never have a cracked engine mount.
@@KorayU. Starship flight planning rule of thumb for fuel: 900 lbs for the 1st hour, 800 lbs for the 2nd hour, 700 lbs for every additional hour of flight.
Beautiful bird but I noticed it has the same problem all aeroplanes have; that being, virtually no visibility through the screen. Why do instrument panels have to be so high and block out the front view when a better design is not only called for but available?
Always been a fan of Canards and Rutan's made a few of those. My favorite is the Long-EZ spin off, the Berkut. Other's tried too, take the Piaggio Avanties. I'll want one of those when I sell my bitcoins and Apple shares... Some specs on the Spaceship would be nice (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beechcraft_Starship#Specifications_.282000A.29). Being twice as fast as the Partenavia they must have flown at minimum speed (mind you, these planes (almost) never stall or spin) for not to outrun it.
I guess the question is. Since you have Almost 700K hits on this video. Which is clearly more then Any Other Offshore video,. Why aren't you doing any more? The Cinematography is incredible.
