You never stops and amazes me, your building skills are amazing. I’m really happy to learn from a master builder. Thanks for sharing your experience. Martin from Norway.
Getting to be quite the seamstress but the sails sure look great! Oh and an idea to consider the next time you cut sails - cut on the outside of your straight edge. A wandering knife blade (an OOPS) could wreck a piece of irreplaceable fabric.
Wonderful job. I have no sewing machine, and the way you do the sails seems not too much difficult for me. What time does it take for one sail, please?
Since my English Skills are way below my modeling Skills , less talking and more modeling is the better choice ! LOL Glad you like it and thank you for watching
Hi, sorry to bother you, I bought this model a short time ago and now I have decided to complete it, however I realized that I had lost the instructions. I would be grateful if you could send me a photo of it.
Understandable but trust me the Instructions of the AL Mary Jeanne Kit were much more unclear. With this Billing Boats Kit I understood what to do with the Stern segment. Maybe you see a solution for the Problem by watching this Video Series and getting back to your Model, because the final result looks amazing
@davaoshipmodeller must be down to experience, or perhaps I'm misreading the drawing, but some things it tells you to glue on aren't even represented in the drawing. Thanks again. I'm excited to get going this afternoon!
Hi John, it sure looks like you have to add a lot of your own parts and ideas to make the ship look authentic. Nice work, I wonder where you come up with the ideas to make the models look like the real thing.
Thank you. As for the additional Details I've added I've used my imagination and experience from some 40 years of modeling. I changed those Parts which doesn't look right to me but I don't know if it comes closer to the real thing with those enhancements, you decide.
@@saravicius ah ok, I am using 2 Airbrushes , one very cheap Chinese Knockoff for Primers and very thick paints with a 0.3mm Needle and the other one is the Tamiya HG 3 with a 0.2mm Needle. Honestly for our Hobby and the kind of Spray work we are doing, the Chinese Airbrush would be enough
@@davaoshipmodeller Thanks! I tried one from Aliexpress, but was quite disappointed... it isn't easy to work with acrylic paint, and it needs a water-like consistent which gets absorbed into the wood and changes its structure, so looking for a solution which could help to work with thicker consistency paints
@@saravicius agreed ! Check out if you can find Komodo Paints those are pre-thinned and very easy to apply. Before I've used only Tamiya Paints but after the Bismarck, where I first used Komodo Paints, I switch my whole Stash. Also try to work Sanding Sealer, that closes the Wood Pores
Wee tip when you are doing the deck planking go the whole hog and do it with 1 mm strips instead of the cardboard deck so more realistic it will take you a while but so worth it when it's done.
@@Letsgetiton41 Yes that would be an option but honestly I don't have the time for that since this Video Series is basically a promotion of the Kit which Amati has sent me over.
Well done,i need your help.I making this model without Amati kit and all by myself.need a plan or help for this little rescue ship. Thanks for your videos,if I didn’t see them,i couldn’t make it.
Thank you I am glad you like it. As for the Plans they are available at the Amati Shop or maybe online on Google . But if you need help , just let me know and I will see what I can do. Thank you for watching
Thank you for the skill, time and effort put into these videos. As a result I bought the kit and have just finished the 2nd planking. You wisely do not follow the instructions when it comes to fitting the minute photo etched ladders to the stern sides. I’ll do the same as imagine that spraying those sides before fitting the ladders will certainly block the fitting holes as these are literally the width of a small pin point
Thank you and I am glad you like it. And yes unfortunately the Instructions are a total mess there is no straight line to the finish. The order I assembled the sections are only based on years of experience
HI, I ALMOST FINISHED... BUT I LOST THE JOINTS FRORM THE CABIN TO THE CHASIS.... DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTION FOR ME?... WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MY WORK? HOW CAN I SEND YOU PHOTOS?.... THANKS A LOT.
I am sure it look great. As for the Joints ; you might can try to replicate them from the excess Photo etch sprues . And yes you can sent me pictures via Email : davaoshipmodeler@gmail.com , or join us on Facebook at : Amati modelismo Asia . We will be happy to see your progress there
Another fine build! While I wont be building this model, the instructions almost remind me of the Cleveland model airplanes of the past (1950s-'60s along with the poorly done Dumas models of the '80s up -" here's the picture, now put it together to match"
I said it before, not so long time ago - you must be the king of the masking tape. No matter how much I try, it is almost impossible for me to reach the same level as you are able to. Congrats for another nice model. PS. The fly at 22:34 seems to be out of scale :)
Thank you but I don't think that I am a King of anything, at least not according to my Wife !!! LOL . Practice makes the Master as we say in Germany and tho I think that you too can achieve this Level sooner or later . Not sure what you mean by the Fly at the End of the Video !?
well I wouldn't say that the Instructions are terrible BUT very much OLD SCHOOL . I grew up with those kind of Instructions, it woke some memories of my past. But if this was your first Model I truly understand your annoyance
What do you recommend as first ship model, with sails . I have build some airplanes and some easy motor boats., But I love to learn to rigging and sails . And thanks for your inputs and your you tube channel
Well that it is a question which is not easy to answer but if I should make a wild guess , the Amati Hunter Q Ship, Pinta, Nina or Santa Maria would be a good choice . I also have many Costumer who ordered the Occre Buccaneer and Polaris . Unfortunately I haven't assembled them yet , except the Hunter Q Ship which went together like LEGO Bricks
Thank you sir for your quick answer, and thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us, and for your hard work, filming and sharing your experience. Thanks a lot . Martin from Norway.
I built this very same kit a few years ago after a thirty year sabbatical from model making. It was not the newer version you have but a kit I had got as a gift in the 1970's. Yes its been around that long. The plans were terrible, as were the planks. Not obechie but balsa I believe. The trick was to soak the strips and heat gently over a candle, in affect steaming them to help form properly. It worked. There was very little on the internet about the Tunny boats, bit I found enough information from pictures to enhance the kit a little after the deck was planked, I added extra frames between the kit frames to give the illusion of a full complement of hull frames. As for the deck and you may have already laid the strips. Between each strip I laid a length of black thread to simulate caulking. Very labour intensive but the effect was worth it. I used danish oil thinned a little after a light sanding to coat it. I used the sail plan to make my own sails using old worn white pillow covers on a sewing machine. Again labour intensive, but a more natural look in the way the sails sit. I'm a patient man, I have been married a long time. 😄 I used very strong tea to stain the cloth and a tiny bit of red food colouring for the red sails. Tested on scraps first of course. Some of these tricks you may well know already of course. I sprayed the hull and it looks well. A tip suggested to me was to make a block to support the masts and rig them off the hull. Its easier for some people that wat if you have big fingers and arthritis. The end result was good enough for my wife to place it in the hall of our house. Six months after I finished my kit. I was buying fish in the fishing village near where I live and I noticed some tall masts where trawlers normally berth. I took a look and there was a Drascom Lugger over 100 years old and a Marie Jeanne. I luckily got a lot of things right with my build. One of the crew said they were all similar but never exaxtly the same. I had to turn down an offer of a tour on board as I was wating for a hip replacement and could not manage the ladder from the quay wall. They are a lovely little ship in real life. I look forward to the next video. The hull looks well shaped at this point.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience and advises from this Model , I am very sure your Model must look magnificent after all the additional work you have done. It's a pity that you couldn't make that Boat Tour since it would be very interesting. I also did some things what you have subscribed in this Comment but more on that in the upcoming Videos . Btw , the Model is already completed and and arrived save and sound at the new owners Home
Looks like a fun build with a couple OOPS. What sand paper grit are you using so I don't make the same mistake. Also - I noted you said your English is c***y - not so and LOT better then my German. I wouldn't keep coming back if it was not decent😀😀😀
You are truly an amazing inspiration, I always love your work and learning something new every time you post a video. Thank you for sharing your amazing skills. Martin from Norway. 🇳🇴
Its amazing to see your work, you are really a complete legend. Just to see your building and painting work is a joy. And you also film and editing . Thanks for sharing your hard work.
You are so diligent! Always moving forward to a new adventure (no pun intended) when are you planing to build amati's American cup yacht Endeavour 1934 1:48?
Hope you dont encounter the issued I did, parts not fitting at all, decks not aligning with keel, having to relocate mast supports and adding material to one bulkhead due to the huge gap
I will be following, I am finishing the deck planking, the bulkheads took a lot of time to get ready for planking, still I hope to get a good model, I like this model a lot @@davaoshipmodeller
