Hey, great videos and great concepts! Love the SCAM MA for limb walking concept as well! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Knotorious (I’ll share my real name privately) and I operate my own RU-vid channel about tree climbing and various other types of other climbing, friction hitches, knots, hauling/pulling systems/mechanical advantage here: ru-vid.com/show-UCQpij2XQOwqcqH8gTic-GCg I was hoping you would reach out to me so that we can be formally introduced. I’ve really loved your ideas for tree climbing, as well as some of your other videos. I honestly learned the SCAM mechanical advantage method from a video from Bartlett Arborist supply, but was recently informed that you created this method. To highlight to you how passionate I am about my channel: I’ve created and developed over 80+ novel, original friction hitches and made roughly 170 videos about them, as well as 20+ novel, original knots with 20 videos. I have yet to come up with a climbing system, but I did recently develop a climbing device for use on a climber’s bridge. About the SCAM, I’ve so far published three videos (2 long form and 1 short form, with a fourth that will be posted soon) which contain your techniques for both mechanical advantage on a limb walk and for the retrievable redirect. I’d like to share my videos with you privately (so that it doesn’t look like I’m advertising my videos in your comments section) so that you can be aware that your ideas are being spread by myself beyond your channel. I'd also just like to get to know you, if that’s alright with you. I’ve been trying to reach out to as many of the climbers that I admire as I possibly can. By the way, I give you credit in all of these videos in the descriptions for the videos. I can be reached at knotorious.contact@gmail.com Take care!
@@FreeFallinTrees yes pls. Make sure to keep scam... but add redirect in title. And real care with camera angle at key points... pls show a coula times for others like me... who need all the help they can get.
I can see how patents and monopolies are related, but they have a key difference. If I come up with a new kind of rope, figure out how to make it in some new way. I should be able to get a patent so I can sue anyone that tries to steal my idea and get paid for all the work I did. A monopoly is when a rope company buys or ruins all the other rope companies so they own all the rope patents and every rope has to be bought from them. They could make garbage rope, and sell it for any price they want, that is a monopoly.
@@FreeFallinTrees not quite there are standards for climbing ropes therefore the junk ropes won't "fly" now as far as ropes and monopolies go how many legitimate rope manufacturers are there? lol. the problems all arise from greed. patents only serve a single person or at this point a billion dollar entity. therefore forcing the "little guy" not only out of business but also the consumer into being gouged by those conglomerates... I'm not against making some coin but I am against being financially raped. a far better solution is a one time license fee and a statute of limitations on how long that license fee can be applied. that's fair market and stops any chance of both monopolies and blatant theft. patent law is nothing more than guarantee that those with extreme resources and over priced mouth pieces control the market. you said it yourself lol "you'll never beat the guys with billions "
My 1st one was 300' ( 3/8 in cable) over the hairpin bend in the river. From a 40' bluff to the beach. It was a 10+ second ride hanging from a ski rope handle. It was a big hit for the weekend. Upgraded with a harness strap. My next one will be TWICE as long.
Starting Climbing 19" , and watch the video in that year . But I getting to know the SRT System and Putting It to use at 2021 . Revisiting this video help me alot
Good eye, and you are correct, it is 3:1 on that leg of the tie off, but with the other static leg and a 90° bend at the main pulley I only gave it 2:1 on the primary line to be generous.
Thanks! It's not every day that you find a talking tree. Unfortunately a couple years ago he convinced a bunch of squirrels to break into my house and he had to be removed. Thanks for watching!
This video was great to watch and gave me inspiration. It also helped me determine what year my shopsmith is. I noticed my headstock looked different then any other model so I thought it was missing pieces . Turns out that mine is a 1948 too ! I just acquired one for free from a job I was working and I'm excited excited give it as much love ! Thanks for the video
That's awesome, still loving that machine. I stumbled across a used lathe shield that I am adding now and getting my kids into working with it. Congratulations on your SS! What serial number did you wind up with?
@@FreeFallinTrees I will give the serial number a check later . If you have any info on part identification that would be great . I have a box od some of the different attachments and I don't know what they are all for
@@paulramos6265 if you haven't found this forum yet it will be able to answer all your questions. This link will take you to my original post and the work I did to fix it up - forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=29951
@@paulramos6265 This guy documented the serial numbers he has come accross. It looks like yours may have been made between 1951-1953 but you will have to read this - forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=23647
Sometimes the weight gets jammed and I hook it up to my truck with a redirect. I figure something is going to break! Always have an extra line and weights.
@@FreeFallinTrees hey brotha ? I look up to you man . As long as there are proper stitchings , proper threads & materials. Then I believe it's quite same as what major climbing equipment companies does to thier equipments to the mass . They also employs actual human to saw each gears . As long as it's meeting with safety guild line levels why not ?! We live in a Freedom country and it's your body . as long as you ain't causing or pushing it's gear to make profits out of it then that's fine by me and does not need to be singled out or kicked out for saying it. but should be respected in a much different way with in our community . I believe Freedom of speech , Freedom of thoughts, Freedom of whatever you want as long as not causing you and others than yourself then it's fine to my mind. Cheers ! 👍👏
Glad I'm not the only who's eyes roll out of their head whenever I hear eco-modernists talk about prohibitively expensive Direct Air Capture technology.
Wait, you don't show up for 2 years, then you come out with a teaser of a video. No, you don't get off that easily 😄😅🤣. Great to see you back online making videos and am looking forward to more (BTW - Nice rework of the lathe).
Ha, thanks Paul. It has been a wild couple of years. But if it helps at all I've got 2 more vids i am editing, and another half shot. I just needed to unclog the pipe with this one 🤣
Love your videos. I'm planning on building a zip line soon. Can you comment on using steel cable vs rope for the zipline. 🤣 Donald Trunk. Log him up! Log him up! He needs his own Instagram/TikTok channel.
Thanks, "log him up" is killing me 🤣 I use rope for ziplines if it is temporary, like 1-3 days for an event because it can weaken with long term UV exposure. Steel cables are best for seasonal or longer term ziplines. There are a couple things to think about with cables. 1. Buy one that can handle 3,000+ lbs at a minimum for adults to use, the longer or higher it is, the stronger you need to cover added forces and increase risk. 2. Trees are only "alive" around the outside inch or 2 of the trunk. It is better to put a large eye bolt through a tree with a big washer on the back, than it is to wrap the outside if it will be installed for more than a few weeks. If it IS going to be short term, use a piece of garden hose on the wire to protect the cambi layer of the tree. 3. Steel does not stretch to give you a slow landing. It goes fast and you will stop when you hit the end 😵. Plan on making a braking system at the end of the line to slow people down. A large block on the line with bungee cords to let it slide and slow works great. Have fun!
Hello I’m a 17 tree climber I don’t use harness but I’m looking into it because I recently fell out a 30 foot tree and fractured my wrist and thumb and I’m just lucky to be alive.
Ahhh! Was on a search on how to build a zipline on 2 acres of cleared hills so I don't have a heart attack picking passbyers trash that they leave me on the side on the road, lol. I really enjoyed your video. Very rarely do I hit a 1st click hit like your to make me laugh. Love it. 🕊....
@@FreeFallinTrees I love rock climbing and repeling but I'm 30yrs older now. This is going to be fun building a line going down a 1.5 acres hill. Considered getting a horse. Still am, but this place is calling for a zip-line adventure this year.
Hmm, after watching your presentation me thinks your "day job" is either in management or technical domain. And at 9:21 where you were standing on 5th Avenue, I suspect your "Donald tree mouth guy" was driving the vehicle when you were run over! After all, at a convention in Montana he was quoted saying something like, "I could drive down the middle of 5th Avenue and run over that Free Fallin guy and I wouldn't lose any voters - it's incredible" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qC16c98hDPc.html
AHA, at long last you've learned the hidden meaning of your father's prophetic words of wisdom, "Son, if it ain't a Wisconsin Fur Oak, don't fix it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-55RucZtObSU.html Therefore, this limb was a Wisconsin Fur Oak so you've leaned the hidden meaning of your dad's parable. And I'm guessing he went on with "... or the Siky Zubat will bite you as payback." BTW - my Danish friend shared his father's words of wisdom, "You will either listen, or you will FEEL. 😲" Happy trails - Michael
I am happy to report that after this video was shot, all of the forest creatures did an intervention and i started attending RHA (Raccoon Haters Anonymous). They taught me many valuable lessons, but most importantly that raccoon lives matter. We are now good friends and sometimes share a Hot Pocket in the tree. ✌️🌳🥟🦝
This is so fantastic. We inherited a 150ft zip line and it’s a metal cable that has nearly no give - we want to loop back to keep the kids from tearing up the lawn under it and found your video. Awesome.
