The great thing about the Criterion Collection is that the films are already curated and collected, so it makes it easy to just start picking up spine numbers. It’s kinda like the paint by numbers version of film collecting.
So great to see the two of you back. Hope it’s really not the last time. When older guys like me see young people like you appreciating great art , then there’s hope for the future
Speaking of blind buys, I've avoided much regret with Criterions by screening first on The Criterion Channel. Mixed results on my relatively few blind buys. I just bought The Virgin Suicides blind last week, and happy I did. Just ordered Anatomy of a Fall, blind, we'll see. Enjoyed your video, thanks.
Until the End of the World, one of my all time favorite Criterions, easily. At nearly 5 hours I watch it over about a week in about one hour segments, savoring every minute. It's definitely the epitome of a great road movie, with perhaps another Criterion road movie held is such high esteem....IL Sorpasso. A great duo to have imo.
Thanks for uploading, I've really missed these trips, brings back good memories of watching years ago. I agree about streaming, not everything is available and I also like watching the extra features that come with DVD which you don't get with streaming.
I grew up watching you guys go on your criterion trips around like 2013-2016 and I absolutely loved your videos. I was in middle school and now as a recent college graduate, it's crazy to think that the same friends i saw way back when are still bonding over something as small like a good ol' criterion sale. Absolutely wonderful. Really appreciate you guys and all the stuff yall put me on way back when (watched Three Colors and Badlands based off the recommendation in your videos). I hope the tradition never dies but just know that you'll always have a loyal fan to watch whenever yall post.
Been sticking to buying favourites too. I don’t do many blind buys unless maybe it’s a director who I know only makes bangers. For example Almodovar, I pretty much know I’m going to be impressed by anything he does
Just a few days ago, I was watching your previous videos in preparation for the Criterion sale (I ended up getting Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows) and got an air for nostalgia since I had seen those videos as way back as 2015. I'm glad to see that you guys are back.
He has another track called “Pride of Man” which is also very good, but quite different from this song. It’s more ominous and stripped down. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for that. The nonpartisan work you're doing to hold the SFWA accountable for their actions (and inaction) is very important. Keep up the good work!
Hi Joel. So glad I found your new channel. I watched and enjoyed all your other videos with Alex and Co. and hope that life is treating you well. You lads give proof that the younger generation will help the appreciation of great films, books and music will not die.
Great collection! You have a lot of titles that most people who do these videos don’t have- I even jotted down a few to check out before the next sale. Also.. I like what you did there for Rashomon.. 😆
Long In The Tooth is one of the best stores on one of the best blocks on the planet. Movies, records, books, and vintage games, alongside a comedy club, improv theater, comic book store, guitar store w/lessons, cheap burger place, expensive burger place, italian, sushi, a movie theater (that will hopefully be back soon) AND parking? And I don't even think I named everything.
This video, for those who’ve been with you and the other fellas for all these years, has been something we’ve all been waiting for and it didn’t disappoint. You and Alex and Y2K were the reason why I got into the collection in the first place and watching (and rewatching - how can I not? They’re all so informative and hilarious!) your field trips really inspired me in so many ways. As a nearly decade long fan of the work you put out, I hope that you and your comrades are doing wonderful and realize the impact that you had on so many people when you guys got together all those years ago to collect some physical media. Best wishes!
Wow, reading this means a great deal, Jack. Thanks for sticking with us through the years and for leaving such a thoughtful comment. I’m glad the long-awaited collection overview was appreciated. I hope you’re doing well!
