As epic as it would've been for this to come out, all the more finished level footage shows off mediocre at best level design. "Sonic in 3D" wouldn't have been enough to carry this game alone
Funny enough, a level editor for the _New Worlds_ (or a version with striking similarities) build has been discovered; binaries only, no sign of source code, rendering it unportable to modern systems.
@@JetixR To quote The Cutting Room Floor, _"Jollyroger does not have the source code to this build of the editor (v53); only binaries were found. Thus there is, unfortunately, no way to port it to modern systems. He released one screenshot of the v53 editor running on Windows 98 in 2014, but two screenshots were previously found in the 'PackageX' level archive that leaked in 2009. For many years, these two screenshots were the only glimpse the public had of Sonic X-treme's editor in action. Although since there was no recording of the editor in action, it is too soon to assume what is new and featured in the editor, such as the interesting 'paths' feature that had Sonic running along scripted pathways in the levels as it has been confirmed the editor does not have paths."_ So, although it does no appear to be *the* New Worlds build, judging by the screemshots, it wasn't that far off.
Theres a fan recreation called Sonic X-treme Unity (cuz its made using unity) its really cool and feels literally like its the real game, it has diferentes versions, but i recommend the 4-Words Demo and Demo 2.
If metal Sonic is 3d then Sonic might as well be 3d but he's a Sprite. Making metal Sonic a Sprite that looks 3d when the camera rotates around him would've matched better. Plus I hate how the GUI looks
First, they can't change the gui because this is a remake and they have the original gui and second, Metal Sonic is 3D because he had a 3D model and Sonic is 2D because he only had sprites and that's the way they originally made it and third, instead of making fanmade 2D Metal Sonic sprites instead they should use the official Sonic Xtreme 3D Sonic Model.
Also, they can't rotate the camera, this is a core thing in Sonic X-treme, Lense Eye camera. Basically, Sonic is just a 2D sprite that seems to be running around the world, but instead, the world moves around Sonic. The camera is fixed in one direction and they can't change it.
