You did an awesome job making that avar . However, I would recommend that you avoid using canola, sunflower and vegetable oils. They are so bad for your health. Try using olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil. I understand that some of those might be difficult to find in Croatia, but your health will thank you.
Croatia is big producer of olive oil. This recipe calls for sunflower oil. This is old from grandmas book. Also my wife does not like the taste of olive oil trying to get her used to it. We also have great pumpkin seed oil here. I understand what you are saying about the oil but for now this have to do it can be slowly changed. We also use a lot of home made lard for cooking but is not good for this kind of thing
Wow that was awesome to see. What an incredible recipe and I loved seeing all the aspects that went into this. Well worth the time you guys put into it because thats alot of jars at the end and to go through winter with that amount very yummy and healthy. I really like the set up of the metal stove and the huge pan that would be really nice to cook with I am sure. The colour of it so bright and red, everything about this recipe was so interesting. Thank you for sharing it I may try this but on a smaller scale. Your boys all tuckered out from a big day on the homestead, very cute. I learned something about cooking with peppers/capsicum and eggplant that I didnt know before.
I am really happy to hear this. Love to help and share what we do here. The big pans are so handy to cook on big scale. Will have to buy few more different once for the wood stove as well. You can also put some chilly pepper if you lime it to be hot. I am the only one who loves spicy food so we make everything mild and I can always get some hot peppers on the side. Boys were really tired after today but 52 jars that is one per week should last us till next year about this time.
Thats fantastic that Croatia does not have GMO. You are so lucky read an article that here in Australia they are about to remove the protections we had in place that told us if a food was GMO its horrendous that this is happening we will no longer know what we are eating. I agree with you about Soy very bad for humans and animals causes loads of issues. You are so lucky to have made the move to Croatia. You are spot on about the hybrid seed and the old seed. So glad that you got rain as I know you were wating on some.
That is no good where Australia is going with basally everything. All is going the wrong way. Was such a great country when we first moved not sure what happened. Food security is very important for any country and with gmo you are giving it away. I am glad we have moved but sad at the same time as Australia was meant to be the country where I wanted to grow old. It has been raining for few days now. Everyone is so happy about it including us
The tree house is coming along and what you have done so far looks brilliant. It was so nice to see a father building a tree house for his boys in such beautiful surroundings. Your boys will have an amazing time once it is done and next summer will be so fun for them and all the summers after that. It looks nice and sturdy and will last forever. The tomato sauce looked so nice and that will be so yummy in winter. 10 chicks lost but it is life on a homestead loads of lessons and ups and downs.
Yea slowly we are getting there and hope to have a lot of fun once it is built. Still have not tried the sauce but it smells amazing. Still lots to learn and lots of mistakes to be made. Slowly learning about everything. Is the small things that get you and you learn about those only when it happens.
I was born and raised in Australia, it was once a great country but sadly it has gone to shit. You get caught in the system and you are in debt for the rest of your hard working life, I hate it and I am starting to hate living in Australia, I need to get out of here as soon as possible, it is a cancer slowly eating away at me. I have been to Croatia and loved the country and now am seriously considering a move there and probably starting a business.
This is one of the reasons why we have left. We wanted a small far to call our own in Australia and make living off the land. I love curing meat and raising animals. But few acres was always too expensive specially if you want to be closer to any cities. Did not want to pay off the land till I die. Land here is reasonably priced. Cost is bit expensive but can find something small drive away from it for good price. Starting a business has never been better there is shortage on labour wherever you look. Specially construction work
So peaceful seeing you walk around and feed the animals and letting them out for the day. The little cats as well. The weather looks so hot, are you at the end of summer heading into Autumn yet? Here the days are warm at the moment which is really unusual for this early in Sept so I figure we are in for a bad summer maybe fires as everything is dry no rain for ages and its already warm. Nights here are still cold. Seeing your strawberries reminded me that I need to buy some plants. This year strawberries and tomatoes. Lots of herbs and beetroot and some greens. I do tend to do other things that I see that need attending and then I have enough on my plate lol. Staying focused can be difficult when there is a lot to do. My garden changes I realised to accommodate family changes. I used to have chickens and all veggies in the garden. Then grandkids came along and eventually the garden turned into a playground for them with various toys and such. Now again I have got an area which is for me a veggie garden. The rest is seating and things for children. No chickens sadly. I am also focused on more container planting as well. The tree house you are building your boys will love that. The tractor is a great thing to have.
Everyone is happy in the morning. I love going around in the morning checking on everyone and seeng them happy to get out. We still have 2 weeks of Sommer but is the hottest on record. Also is driest we did not have rain in months. Makes it hard with the garden as no watering system is done yet. The little pond that I have dug out has dried out for the first time now. Gives me a little chance to make it bigger i guess. Another thing to do and get sidetracked. The little tractor and trailer are the best thing that I bought. It is time to get tomatoes out in Australia nice to hear that you have your garden or some of it back. Hope kids will love the treehouse they have been talking about it for long time now
Price of property in Croatia is rising rapidly, you bought a land just in right time. I'm glad you're doing well. Everybody has to start from somewhere. You are a hardworking man, respect.
Thank you. Not all Croatia is going up in price. Big city and coast is going up villages not so much. I do not understand but I am hoping to be able to buy more land for reasonable price. We are starting from beginning and it is not easy but we will get there in few years. Money is often tight but that is with everyone just have to spend it wisely
@@MyCroatianHomestead rural areas went up 50%, main cities 200%, the coast 400% and more in the last 5 years. i stopped working altogether 2 years ago because i cannot keep up. 5 years ago, what seemed attainable in 10 years time is now 20 years away. during the same period of time my salary tripled but that doesn't matter because there is a limit on what i can and want to do and what people and companies are willing to pay for.
I really have not looked into land prices much but here you can buy ok land mostly by talking to people. Charging what your product is worth is a bit hard but still can find the market for it. Here at the moment people are slowly starting to think what they consume. Used to be only the cheeper the better now it is changing slowly
I will have to show you .Australian Croatian, and Serbian Tomatoe beds all our neighbours worked this way in Leppington NSW. It good for growing every thing.
I got some plants that are not what they are supposed to be. Tomatoes have no taste. Like shop bought. Cherrie tomatoes that I have planted has saved this season.
We had chickens years ago and it was the best. We dont have a large backyard but it was fun and the chickens were happy. Seeing your chickens around the homestead is so nice running around the whole place has such a great atmosphere. You have a wonderful lifestyle for your and your family. Once you get your name out there more people will want to buy the chickens and the geese. A fantastic business. The cats are so cute. Did they just turn up one day at the same time? Your summer was so hot it makes planting and harvesting alot harder. You have some lovely areas among the trees for shade its so beautiful.
Chicken do not need much space to be happy. They have free roam here on our homestead. Makes some tasty eggs. Our lifestyle has changed for better here I really wish I could do this in Australia but as you know is not affordable for average working family. Cats have turned up at our place we just feed them and they stay put. Regarding geese no one has them here in the village can sell everything with no problem. Also non-one does pasture raised chicken so it is no problem to sell. I am just not ready for it yet
Such a wonderful abundance of fruit and so lovely that you are offered this. Homegrown beetroot is the tastiest. We used to steam the leaves and eat those you have such a great amount so do the animals eat some and some could go into making compost or something. That is an amazing number of people on a live, congrats on that. People are interested in homestead living and living a more easy way of life. More fulfilling. I adore that little cat. I am not a cat person more a dog person but that little kitten is so sweet. It only wants to be near you maybe for safety I guess. As I get older I seem to be liking cats more lol. Our weather is slowly getting warmer though the evenings are still cold but not as bad as it has been. I hope you get the right amount of rain that you need.
The abundance is amazing. It would be a shame not to share. We do eat the beat leaves but the heat this year has burnt them. The plant had just enough to grow. Anything we have left over goes to animals for feed and if its not good it gets composted no waste at all. I am not a cat person either but this one is special. They do catch mice so they are useful on the homestead. We still did not get enough rain but what do we do hope it will come soon. Nice to hear that the weather is warming up for you. Just reached 1k sub on the channel big achievement. 👋👋👋
I was a cat person, and still am, but we got ourselves a little Havanese dog now. She is the sweetest little thing in this World. I threaten to sell my wife, from time to time, to the gypsies so they can make soap out of her, (as our mom's used to tell their kids in Croatia at the time), but I would never-ever sell my little baby, Chloe. I had two cats before I came to Canada as a kid, Mom, and daughter. Left them with my grandmother. Both died shortly later - broken hearts! Google Havanese dogs...
The bobcat excavator did such a great job and how lovely does it look now all clear. Yes I understand when you say it good for your heart because its a big chore now over with. The weather looks so lovely there still and there is something really magical and country seeing a homestead with geese wondering around. The little kitten that came over to look at the work is so cute. It is such a beautiful landscape. Yes its hard work and in the early days when you realised all the rubbish that was buried was such a shock to you. Its pretty much behind you now and so much has been achieved in such a small time really. Have fun planning the fruit orchard. It must feel so rewarding now.
Yea great work was done today. We had 37 degrees celsius weather. It was really hot but we got it done. I tried to get this cleaned by hand but gave up as I realized how much of it was berried. Now is much better and hope for some rain so that the grass can grow. The kitten follows me everywhere. It is good to have her around as she stopes me from work. Once I start petting her I realize that I needed a brake. Now I can start building the boys tree house that I have promised long time ago.
Happy wedding anniversary and the flowers were so beautiful. It looked very hot and yes that is the worry about keeping the water up. Here it just started to rain yesterday and its moved off now but they are saying we will get more. Its still cold and overcast everyday lately. I loved the barrels that you are using they looked really sturdy. Sugar plums amazing to have something so yummy on the homestead and the plum cake sounds so nice. The little kitten was really cute he wanted your attention. Hopefully the heatwave breaks and you get some rain. Its always good because then it means you dont have to do the watering work. Someone gifted me some horseradish cutting and I have just planted them. I have never grown horseradish before so I hope it works, apparently it takes about a year to get the horseradish, so I guess they are like a radish. Anyway I forgot to mention in the last video that its great that you are selling and making money from the geese.
Thank you. It's so hot over 37 celsius every day. We had a bit of rain out of nowhere today. It was not even forecast. But is back to hot weather again now is so muggy. Horseradish should go like crazy easy plant to grow. You need to like that peppery hot taste it is not for everyone. I think they make wasabi out of it. This cat always wants to be pat. She gets a lot of attention. I am selling eggs as well it pays for all the animal feed. Goslings I sold this year paid for one incubator. I am happy with that getting slowly money back on investment. Barrels are really good nothing gets into them happy with them.
In the coastal part we have same summer temp. but the winter is mild, from 6-12C. In the summer, we have to water the garden every day, in the evening. Croatia is full of underground water, we found one on our land, so we made a system that connects the house and garden to that water. The city water supply serves us only for drinking and cooking. I don't know how is up there, but in Dalmatia the tap water is still good for drinking, which is a real privilege.
Lots of underground water here as well. We have tow weals on the property just have to tap in to them. City water is good to drink here too. Winters are definitely milder not much snow at all only for few days.
Glad you had a lovely time away. Dont ever feel obligated to do you tube all the time. We do love your videos but we understand the hard hard work that you do also. We will still be here and so will all your dedicated fans. A heatwave lucky you says I sitting in a freezing house at the moment trying to conserve some gas to last till the next top up which is still ten days away. Elgas. We have had the worst cold winter we had days back in July that was -10 I have never experienced that ever in my life. I was worried about our local birds as they are not used to this crazy cold we have had here. True I dont like heatwaves either and I dont really know which is worse. Thats why we ran through our gas cylinders so quickly as we were running it all day and part of the early morning hours. Honestly our weather is cooler and I see that Europe is getting warmer. Anyhow nice to see your video.
Thank you. I really needed the brake. You are getting colder than us here. Not sure did the heat come here with me to Croatia and the cold left to Australia. That is really cold for Australia. Hope it changes back to normal soon.
