I first knew her in the now defunct K-Zone magazine, where she was introduced as the music composer for Macross and Brain Powerd. When I stumbled upon GITS:SAC OSTs, I can't believe she could be a legend.
Anime has taught me Japanese, Korean and even some Chinese. Its also taught me about foreign culture, social studies, and like Drifters does well - history. Its amazing how much Japanese music Im into all because of anime. Keep rockin it steady.
I grew up reading the manga way way before I was exposed to Gundam series, and man this left a great memory and feeling, it should have a reboot to a newer audience
Anyone prefer the Evangelion films more than the series besides me and my friends??? Shit didnt make sense but i loved it so much, i really love when the women are the stronger characters and have to protect the man character.
Fish-silent cruise is one of my favorites from her. From the stand alone complex ost, another great one is Crystallize from the Zankyou no terror ost. She truly is a genius.
I just got back from Japan. In Akihabara I dropped some big coin on a nice illustrated big 2 book set. One focuses on the mechas and the other on the characters.
I recommend to everyone Patlabor 2 -> together with Ghost in the Shell the greatest anime ever (my number 1!) Especially if you're a Metal Gear Solid fan (Kojima definitely was influenced by this movie).
Patlabor 2 is literally mamoru oshii's best film. It's a crime that it's so underrated. Don't get me wrong, ghost in the shell is God tier, but patlabor 2 might just be a little bit better.
As a kid I really didn't care about the 'legalities' involved when it came to the series. I just simply enjoyed the story and animation. Life was way simpler and enjoyable back then.
Today's generation won't be able to comprehend the character build up leading to a long story line. Anyone and everyone who grew up as a kid in the 80's know how STORY Telling is by far the most important aspect when it comes to any show and movie.
As someone that has enjoyed a long history with Manga from the mid 80's to now, I find Manga before 2001 gets lost among the modern showings. I was introdued to Patlabor in 1989, and immensly enjoyed. And later on, Patlabor 2! Pre 2000's Manga still offers a few gems more modern Manga does not. Sad really!
This video was fantastic. Sorry I found it so late - but it holds up years later so hats off to you. I love Yoko and this video is an amazing tribute to her.
Early in her life, Yoko never heard the drums and once she seen the drums played by her friend while in school - she thought of him as a god! Thats why she decided to stick with music. I'm believed she told this story while she worked for newtype mag.
