Let's Mod!

I did this battery mod about 3-4 weeks ago and it was working great. but all of a sudden after I had charged and was using it then it shuts itself down. Now they only way to turn it back on is to take it apart ànd disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect it then it will power on fine and run for several minutes before shutting down again. So any ideas of what I happening?

Hopefully, you're still monitoring this video. I'm trying to replace the screen on my vita, but the wifi 3G module screws are stripped. Any idea how I can remove the screws? Thanks, great video!
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 4 дня назад
@@CarlosCabrera-ot5ji You can drill through the screw head... If you slip you may put a hole through your motherboard. You can use pliers to break the post holding the stripped screw from the motherboard - twist it in the same rotational plane as rotating a screw. You can cut the screwed corners off the 3G card too. Destroys the 3G adapter but gives the best chance of getting the screws out by grabbing the head with pliers so you can still use posts to mount PSVSD later if you want. All above ways can destroy your Vita so be careful!

Hi again! I followed another usb c tutorial (Yakara's, normal usb c, not usb c pd), and it initially worked ok. After some time, it randomly started to not charging if the battery level was under some level (about a third or so), until it just charged when the battery drained completely so the psvita turned off automatically, or using the original charger (at any charge level). Today, I just can charge it using the usb c or the original charger only when the battery drained completely (othereise, if I connect either charger, I just get the blue light, not the orange one). Do you know what could have happenned? (I'm thinking in making the tp4056 mod)
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 13 дней назад
The USB adapter Yakara used will only work with USB-A to USB-C cable or charger. Because it's missing 2 resistors that help it function on USB-C PD (Power Delivery). You need a USB-A to USB-C cable and a USB-A charger that is 5 Volts and 1.5 Amps or higher. (5V 1.5A or 5V 2A or 5v 3A should be written on the charger)
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 13 дней назад
As for not charging unless the battery is low enough... I don't really know what's happening. I would try charging with a 5V 1.5A charger (the original Vita charger is this) and connect a USB A to USB C cable and see if you get the orange light. If not - something else is wrong. The tp4056 mod is pretty good.

Are you interested in selling your modded PS Vita 1100? I am interested in buying it off you in good faith by paying upfront. Would want it modded like crazy though, I have a wish list of mods, some for fun and some needed. I am too old now and don't have the time to tinker around. If you are interested let me know, we can discuss all the mods and come up with a price that is worth you while. Just a heads up I am very particular in what I want.
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 15 дней назад
You should list mod ideas so I can read your list. HDMI out is maybe possible... but probably too tough for my ability. It would be randomly trying to connect 19 wires again and again... It's much easier to make a dock using a Raspberry Pi that can output to to the TV. Or use a PSTV and just mirror the saves on both Vita and PSTV. It would be fun to see a list and try to do it. I own a lot of Vitas... Might resurrect the idea of selling modded Vitas on eBay linked to the channel so buyers can see the work. Hmmm I did want to try attaching Nintendo switch sticks. The SLIM Vita's sticks have the same number of connections without R3 but the OLED has 2 extra - it's a different technology for the sticks between the OLED and the SLIM. If I can get a switch stick working, that means I can get Switch style Hall Effect sticks. R2 & L2 - and R3 & L3 are possible - easier with Switch sticks if they are possible. Otherwise I already have buttons that go under the current Vita sticks. But for R2 & L2 triggers I can't think of a good button paddle combo that would look good or even feel good. I have a neat idea to try but... I've never finished this mod. I use a "Top Player" L2 R2 grip that does a similar thing to this mod and I find it very comfortable... so I lost interest. I hope and believe that I have a working battery mod idea - I have all the parts and I'm trying this out tonight or tomorrow. Currently Vita battery mods are not consistent or reliable without manually correcting the Vita. But if you list your wish list, I might try it just for fun. Might make videos on it or maybe not. You would see it - maybe we could work out a price based on if you want the final product and how much time went into it.

So technically you now have 3 microsd card slots, that's insane modding dude. I bought this on release and had it for years, it's mind blowing for me. AND there's still another one for the M2 card, so four all together, which is kinda overkill.
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 16 дней назад
No no, the "M2 port" is actually a mPCIe port and used for the PSVSD MicroSD adapter. Only 2 places for MicroSD and also the Vita Memory Card slot makes 3 locations.

Wow thats amazing! 3:00 how long did the tape last since its been two years now? Does it work along with other memory cards installed? (e.g SD2VITA memory card). Also would this work with a PSVITA wireless only? Have you tried replacing the Sony M2 card slot instead?
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 16 дней назад
Lol it still works! :) M2 requires too much current. I looked it up today haha. Yes you can use SD2Vita along with PSVSD but only one location can you install Vita games (you choose the location). Roms, PSP Games, everything else can be installed on the other card if you want but all Vita games and homebrew and ports all on one card together. You know if you want this and you don't have a 3G... You could buy a 3G with a broken screen or bad port (if you install USB-C) and just switch the motherboard and use that Vita's back so it has the SIM bay door. Or you could order a 3G board and 3G touch back with SIM door from AliExpress and switch those out. It gets kinda pricey after buying everything though. 3G motherboard is $35, 3G back is like $15 I think, PSVSD is $25 plus shipping and then the extension cable from this vid is a couple bucks. Like $80-$90?

@@anderxale1 So I don't need to buy another PS Vita 3G, I just need to buy the PSVita 3G housing/shell back from AliExpress!? That makes a lot of sense, damn you're thinking outside the box! Honestly I don't mind sinking money into this as I know I will be getting my money back. Sony let me down really badly after closing the PS Store for vita after I payed for a lot of PS1, PSP vita games, can't even access all of them! And you check the expensive prices online with memory cards and games in 2024 when it's discontinued is insane! Now I am going to just emulate all PSP, PS1 and Vita games on my vita!

Hey dude, I just resurrected my PSVita after years of abandonment, had one since 2013. I am going to mod it since the games are so expensive, feel a little bad but man the cards are also expensive too, nowadays handhelds come with 512GB upon release. What are your top 5 hardware mods you recommend? (mine doesn't need repair for now, and I understand Vita is harder to physically mod than other handhelds. 1. Add USB-C 2. 3. 4. ? Thanks
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 16 дней назад
I didn't recommend a battery mod unless you have some reason to not use a portable charger. I'm trying something tomorrow that might make battery mods more usable... Yeah USB-C is the best. If your vita is 3G I would highly recommend PSVSD so you can have the storage internally instead of using the game card slot. I would also recommend the MicroSD extension to the SIM card bay so you can change the MicroSD without opening the Vita. You can still use game cards too if your storage is internal. If you don't have a 3G Vita, then I suggest using the SD2VITA MicroSD game card adapter. Use up to 2 TB MicroSD cards - All cards work well when empty. Only 500 titles can display on the home screen - so you need to use another launcher if you want to access more games. Slowdowns and crashes while using system apps can be an issue with reading large storage too (games play fine though once you load them). I recommend keeping Vita games under 280GB or so to avoid the system apps lag. PS Vita homebrew and native Ports (like GTA and Bully) count towards this cap too. PS One games, PSP games, and other roms, video files and music don't seem to affect Vita speed like the Vita games do so put as many as you can fit. I have other mods that I'm working on but - I don't think I'd recommend them even if completed. Like R2L2 R3L3 mod for PS1 games and playing the PS4 over the network. I'd instead recommend a R2L2 case and touch the screen if you need R3 There is a possible internal storage mod for OLED Vitas that a Vita software dev told me is possible. I'm going to try it... we'll see. I don't recommend a lot of hardware mods haha. Just one or two.

I had major battery problems, when I’ll go to bed battery was at 100% then I shut it off and the next day it was at 35%. So it was draining even when it is off. I put in a new battery but that didn’t improve anything. Last thing I could do what’s to remove the 3G chip and sim tray. I did that yesterday and went to bed. Before I went to sleep the battery was at 89% the next morning it was at 88%!!! So it will help!

Does turning airplane mode on(with wifi on) make it so that the 3G module does not drain the battery? Or is the only option to remove it? I got a 3g vita for psvsd, but it’s going to be a while until I do that. So if it’s going to just sit there and drain the battery, I’d rather get rid of it right now.
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 Месяц назад
The 3G and PSVSD have direct access to the battery but they do have an automatic switch on them to turn on and off with the Vita. These cards only drain the battery with the Vita turned on. While the Vita is off or in sleep mode the 3G card and PSVSD both use almost no battery. While the Vita is turned on these cards reduce play time by 30 mins or less which is about 10% The old PSVSD prototype didn't have a switch to turn off when the Vita was off, so it would drain the battery even with the Vita off. My fear was that someone copying the PSVSD specs might get that wrong. You should be fine if you keep the Vita off and pull it out once a year (or every other year) to charge it up to about 80%.

What does the thermistor do? Is it necessary?
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 17 дней назад
It tells the Vita to stop charging if the battery is too hot or cold. The battery can get too hot if you try to charge it but it's too old or dead. This can be dangerous so Sony just deactivates the Vita completely if it doesn't read the correct volts through the thermistor line. You can fake the thermistor with a 10k resistor and the Vita works just as well. It will be without temperature protection though so I don't recommend this is my videos.

So I couldn't find the stock battery replacement with reasonable price anywhere in my area, i trued online but the shipping fee is anywhere from $200-$300, so i kept looking and came across a battery replacement for some wifi device which has same specifications as the vita battery like 3.7v and 2200mAh and three wires with ground, i thought to replace the battery by soldering the wires but the only question i have is do i need to solder a thermistor to the board or should i just replace normally?
@anderxale1
@anderxale1 2 месяца назад
It will probably work... Most battery thermistors are 10k ohm. The difference may be how much the resistance changes with the temperature change. It will probably work but might be extra temperature sensitive or not sensitive enough.
@mobi_1022
@mobi_1022 2 месяца назад

@anderxale1
@anderxale1 2 месяца назад
@@mobi_1022 If the thermistor is too sensitive then the Vita may trun off unexpectedly by getting warm or cold. If not sensitive enough it could charge while too hot and become a fire danger. It might work perfectly too! If you use that battery with it's thermistor, I would just be sure to charge it at a comfortable room temperature. Performance won't be affected at all by a different thermistor.
