Unfortunately, to call this rendition of Mitridate 'complete' is wildly inaccurate. Seven (!) arias have been omitted, and the ones that remain have been cut and rearranged almost beyond recognition. It is a shame, and I say this as a fan of Harnoncourt and Ponnelle of many decades' standing. I can't imagine what they were thinking. This video should be retitled 'Bleeding chunks from Mozart's Mitridate'.
Bravissimo! Mitridate - Gosta Winbergh; Aspasia - Yvonne Kenny; Sifare - Ann Murray; Farnace - Anne Gjevang; Ismene - Joan Rodgers; Marzio - Peter Straka; Arbate - Massimiliano Roncato; Concertus Musicus Wien under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt; Staged, designed and directed by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle; from the Teatro Olimpico Vicenza
I think Mozart was about 15 when he wrote this. The coupling of classicism in architecture in the form of Scamozzi/Palladio's "Teatro Olimpico" in Vicenza with classicism in music represented by Mozart was a deliberate one in this production.
