Compact Equipment is a trade pub covering the smaller categories of construction machinery. Our gearheads operate, analyze and write about off-highway equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, utility vehicles, telehandlers and basically any diesel- or battery-powered construction machine (some landscape and ag too) that can be hauled on a trailer without a CDL. We dissect market trends, explain complex OEM systems, visit manufacturing facilities and tradeshows and dispense our insights to contractors, machine operators, fleet managers, rental houses, municipalities and even the manufacturers themselves.
I had a lemon they replaced, the replaced machine is a lemon. 400 hours drive motors tandem hyd pump, 3 mufflers, 3rd tracks at 600hrs., bogie wheel bearings constantly, Toro wont do anything for me! Junk, junk, junk @toro #TX1000
Totally ignoring the Barreto 825TKL, eh? Barreto has been making the 825 for a a few years now… I own a 2021 model year… they are made in Oregon, and the machines have some nice features… as examples: a Full Arm Height of 105.75 inches and a 7inch ground clearance… oh and an in house engineered track system that utilizes articulated track boogies
Two you didn't mention at all: Baumalight & Vermeer. You did mention Bobcat but didn't go into detail. Might have been worthwhile to acknowledge that NH has a machine (same as CiH).
All the track loader history from Manitou, inevitably comes from takeuchi many years ago when tak was making skids for Gehl. The older Gehl machines were awesome.Manitou builds nice equipment.
These larger CTL are pretty niche, I couldn’t see us as landscapers having a loader this size, to me it’s all about a high flow machine capable of efficient forestry mulching.
Has There been anything to address Fuel Consumption ? I have been Operating a 333 , Last Few Months , The Fuel Consumption is Insane , Just Backfilling around New home Foundation, Also Does the New P serious have a 12 Volt accessory Outlet ?
Way too unbalanced for me...the video of it in operation lost me ...cant compare with the Kubota SVL 75 3 or any other one produced by them in my 35 years of experience opinion ....
The higher hp idea is great, but putting it in the same platform is not. The boom is not strong enough to push the extra load and will bend. I challenge everyone who owns a Deere CTL to check if there boom is centered. If you use attachments like rotary cutter or dozer blade, i can almost guarantee you it is not. Check gaps between boom and track at front.
Took the manitou vt230 on demo , really liked the machine especially rollup door. Only reason for not purchasing. Large cast steel links on both sided of machine that guide lift arms have about 3 inches of side to side play . When turning with bucket loaded arms would pop and bang . Not sure what manitou was thinking here . Needs to shimmied . All other machines with cast links do not have any play side to side.
Wayne, what a great overview of the Manitou CTLs. In your interaction with Manitou, did they mention their plans for dealership expansion? Living in the South East United States, both Gehl and Manitou have a very limited presence in the CTL market.
Hey Jeff, from Manitou: Manitou and GEHL do have dealer relationships throughout the country, but we are always looking to work with new partners, and there are markets in the Southeastern United States we'd love to talk with new potential partners. People can find dealers near them here: Manitou: www.manitou.com/en-US/store-locator Gehl: www.gehl.com/en-US/store-locator
There's always a bunch of cheap knowitalls that flood cats' comments. Im pretty sure they are all dead beats who cant run a succesful excavation buisness. The things they conplain abput is rediculus. Excellent upgrades cat !!!
As a homeowner, purchasing one of these machines could be classified as impossible compared to buying a Kubota. They have a network of salespeople that have spent their career with sealed bids and " here's what we need. Here's a po". They just don't want to deal with us
Grate information! I am working on starting a fire mitigation business with this setup as the star of the show, information like this is extremely valuable to a newb like myself . Thank you!
I have been running the new P Dozers, 550 and the 850 and now I want to start using the 333 instead of the dozers because of price and the versatility and the amount of fuel I will save in one day. I was able to level ground almost as fast with the 550 as the 850 and I saved the customer money. The cost of rent is half the price for the 550 and the insurance is cheaper. The 333 I think will save the customer more money again with the savings of rent, fuel, insurance and do not need a semi to haul it. The only complaint I have about the machines is the back up camera is useless with that fish i lens. When backing I can not see exactly how close I am to a ditch or loading it on a trailer, I have to look out my mirror or look behind me. I would like to replace the fish i camera with a camera from a pickup tuck. I have been operating equipment since 1972 and I do like the idea of a back up camera if you can see with out distortion.
I want to purchase a 335P for my Fecon Blackhawk 74" mulcher but, just not fully confident in the machine yet. Not a whole lot of info I can find from the dealers. I would like to talk to a JD rep for more info on what attachment I'm running.
World’s leader in horribly engineered and built equipment. For the person who doesn’t know any better…let’s make something more complicated when we can’t even make loader controls that work..
This is incredibly useful information. I do some commercial mulching and I read about this stuff all the time...yet I still learned so many new things from this vid. Thank you for taking time to produce it. Hopefully the algorithms will pick it up and show it to many more folks!
I’ll be getting mine soon. When we talked to the sales rep these weren’t out yet. I’ll be getting a 335 outfitted for forestry work. I can’t wait for it to get here.
Here’s the info we received from Cat: Caterpillar fully owns the design, manufacturing and assembly of both the standard (BR) and industrial (BRX - heavy duty basically) brush cutters. These are assembled in its factory in Waco, Texas.
Thanks for the reply Wayne. Didn’t know if Caterpillar just put their “stamp” on their mulchers from an already completed mulcher like Takeuchi does with their FAE made mulchers.
Its time to boycott John Deere until they stop thinking that perople can not do without them and that they can still own the right to repair your machines after you take out a second mortgage to pay for something. They charge what doctors make to work on your equipment bwhen it shouid not even have broken in the first place. They charged me $500 for a little EGR valve that probably cost them $50 ( then plus the labor). Beyond infuriating. License to steal basically. Perhaps you could add 6" more leg room , and do whatever needs to be done to keep them from having a propensity to burn up when used for forestry mulching . ( Put a 50gpm hydraulic pump on them also to keep the drum spinning and make serious forestry attachments with a roll up door that doesn't cost an arm and a leg with the goa .to.out do the ASV 135 etc etc etc. ( Putting the bigger cooler in there was a good move . Hopefully you have made the reverser strong and bullet proof).so, they are at least $20,000 over priced for normal people ( middle class farm/land owners ) so realistically , I going to have to go with the Kubota 97svl just because of the price.
