I have only just found your channel and have subscribed. This video is great and gives a lot of information for model makers in other countries. Do you know if any of the shops you mentioned, or any others have websites and will post to England, the United Kingdom ? Japenese modellers have access to tools that modellers in other countries cannot get hold of, so I would like to search for such items on websites, so could you do a video about the best shops who do mail orders to other countries please, listing their website details ? Also, could you do a video showing examples of tools available that are unique or very selective in their use please ? Thank you.
For the tools, many shops, online or not, do only local mail order. I will gather more info about those tools of Japan which could do foreign orders. Pls be patience.
You can buy very cheap Chinese one sided nippers. The blade being one sided gives you 75% of the performance. Sharpening the cutting edge gets you pretty damn close without paying the godhand premium. Its a bit of a hassle to get the edge geometry with the blade being so small and with the other end being in the way but not really hard to do. Personally, my preference is to buy the cheapest single sided nipper possible and just sharpen it regularly. It's not as good as a new godhand but compares favourably with a"broken in" one. IMHO the godhand's biggest advantages are also its biggest weaknesses. A more aggressive, thinner edge geometry makes it sharper but also means it wears out more quickly and is harder to maintain than a more obtuse one. A hard, high carbon contetpnt tool steel (it's 58 HRC) keeps the edge nice and hard, but also makes it harder to sharpen - which is a bummer given how difficult it is to sharpen nippers in the first place.
I really hate how they put that kid on top of those cardboard boxes.... I know kids are lighting all but anything over 5 lb with definitely dent in that box and they're both pristine.... I know it's silly but small things like that take me right out of the immersion. Great video 👍😸👍
The only thing you should be wary of the Godhand is don’t drop it, because the thin blade is more prone to chipping. Nobody ever plan of dropping anything expensive but it will happen, so treat it like a baby and not an expensive smartphone.
Thank you for your efford and story. I saw such models on internet before - find it interesting but do not know it is Ma.K. Now it is more clear. I Hope to buy some kit and paint soon. I like this style of rusty futuristic-retro-rat-WWII-organic stuff... :)
Thank you for your video. I really enjoyed it. There is only one thing. I am wondering that you did not show TamTam and Leonardo? Leonardo has 3 stores in Akihabara. They do deal with 2nd hand kits, but that also has its charm.
Thanks for your comment, Pat. This is only a little guide for those who would like to buy some model kits with very little time. Actually I’m planning for another video for for scale model shop. Your suggestion is a very good idea!😏👍🏻
Thank you for taking the time to post the video and I know that this was fun for you to do. My wife and I would like to travel there but for us it is important to learn the language, we would also like to extend the same courtesy seeing someone communicate in our own language. I would ask my wife to give me at least two days just for hobby shopping. Do you recommend any hobbyist videos from Japan to follow to learn model building techniques? My interest is in science fiction and anime
You could try “Crafta グラフタチャネル”, “Musasino PLAmodel”, Naoki channel”and “hobby-channel”. These included Japanese and Korean scale modeler. Hope this can help!
Don't know if you have visited yet, but there is a little device called a "Universal Translator", and it activity speaks another language for you ! It is fairly cheap for the technology involved (£70 - £75), looks like a microphone, and can translate between any of the 70 languages that is already programmed in to it. Other languages are available to buy as expansion packs. It is very easy to use - you just click on the flag of the language that you speak, and then click on the language you want it translated into. You then speak the message into the device, and it then speaks the translated phrase out loud to the person you want to speak to. The other person then replies and that message is translated back to your language and thus a full conversation can be had. Simples ! I have used mine on 4 trips abroad and now and would not travel without it. It's been invaluable, especially in shops and markets where you really need to understand what is going on quite quickly. I hope this helps you in some way, and you do not mind me sending this message to try and help you ?
Thank you so much for introducing our great city of Melbourne, showcasing our hobby store and talking about our history. Hearns Hobbies celebrates its 75th Anniversary in 2022 and we are very proud to be a part of Melbourne's culture. Many thanks again and hope to meet you again soon. BJ
I’m planning to spend a week in Japan, hoping to buy a few Tamiya car and jet fighter plane kits. Is the supply in these shops good? Any other tips on how much money to spend? Cool video!
Thanks! If you speak about Yodobashi store, you don’t need to worry about the supply. Have you ever worry about the supply of Coca-Cola in a supermarket?😏 just for your reference, last time I got there, I limited myself not to buy too many at a time. Say one or two boxes in a store at a time. After 2 days in Akihabara, I hv spent like 30,000 yen there in several shops for about 10 boxes. Of course, it all depends on how you could control yourself in such area! 😎
@@pla-v.scalemodel thanks for the info! I’m looking to spend 50,000 yen. Looking to buy about 10 car kits and four fighter jet kits, including the new Phantom and the Eagle Bunker Buster. I’m also looking forward to becoming an animal in the Shibuya crosswalk. It looks like intense fun!
@@davidebert8034 Only 10 Cars? You probably wil buy much more, when you go to a "model supermarket" for the first time. I am sure, Akihabara will change your life forever :-) Enjoy shopping and stay safe!
@@satoriosaka I’m just researching how much I can bring back to the states (dollar value) If I can, I’ll bring back as many suitcases as I can fill up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.👍
Well, I don’t usually sell my scale model here but I accept commission work for building it. Please email me if you need me to build you anything. Thank you for your appreciation.
Not gonna lie, I winced internally when the GodHand was used on the 3mm runner piece. It's a great finishing cutter for cleaning up gate nubs and when the gate is just too narrow or the part is too fine (some Little Armory, RG Gunpla or aircraft antennae come to mind), but I'd rather use a Tamiya sharp pointed (not the Alpha side cutter shown in the video) to make that first cut or for super thick gates.
Yes, this is also the way I do. The Godhand nipper is not suitable for the thick runners. So, I use a Tamiya nipper to do the first rough cut and finish the cut with a Godhand at last.
I checked with the manufacturer and they say if you use very thin matte coats instead of letting it pool or appear wet during application its EVEN BLACKER. Still looks crazy bro
it is you put too much paint if when painting surface looks wet and shiny. Apply very light coat so it not wet shine after coat. After several coats it will all surface will be coated and then it result be even more black.
Thanks for the question. Yes, it stays on but it would be much durable if you give it a top coat. But the bad thing is the top coat will decrease the 'Blackness'. If the paint doesn't in contact with anything, it behaves just like ordinary paint.
@@pla-v.scalemodel Thanks for the heads up and the excellent video. your editing skills/music cuts are amazing by the way. Im in the USA! Now i have to figure out who will ship it to me here to try it!
snufkin ,you could try the shop Mr. Modeler and Twinner. You ciuld find their address and opening hours inside my videos: "Scale model tools supermarket” & “how to keep your scale model hobby while keeping your wife happy”.
Spend 2 weeks in tokyo one of them was almost a full week in Akihabara. Just went into random shops. It was a lot of fun even when people couldn't speak English, they would help you as much as they could
