I really enjoy him. He is so cute and such a character! I really dont know why he didnt stick around and remain in the skateboarding spotlight? He definitely was supposed to be in Tony Hawks Skateboarder game?

I know this post is pretty old but had to comment..... I started skating a little before PROPAGANDA came out but when it did I would watch it over and over and over with my older brother until we were super super pumped, stoked & motivated to skate like fn crazy! That's how it was every single day that summer! Also, your section was the reason why i started olling gaps too! 🔥🤙😝🤙🔥

I met Lavar in SF randomly walking around some years back, and I didn’t exactly recognize him since I’m better with recognizing skaters styles on the board instead of facial features given the VX footage and all. He saw I had some throwback Polo on and so did he, and that’s all we talked about until I told him why I wanted to see that area given the skate history and whatnot. He asked me questions almost like he was playing dumb like “what went down here” and “who are these guys” and “where/ when did this happen,” and he let me ramble for a full 20 minutes before we parted ways. The last thing he said was “you know that dude Lavar you mentioned” and I said “ofc,” and he replied with “now you can go back home and tell your friends you met him” and literally left me geeking out on my lonesome after a quick pic and a mysterious departure, and even to this day I’m still half way thinking “no way this happened, especially how it went down….”

That’s incredible. I grew up skating in SF in the early 2000’s and went to pier 7 sometimes, but never saw him in person. He was already this legend who kinda disappeared back then. He would pop up again here & there in the late 2000’s, but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything new from him. Hope he’s doing well, wherever he is. Lavar McBride deserves to have a board forever in my view.

1:47 is easily one of the best looking tricks ever done in the history of skateboarding that has been caught on film.

Every trick he did over that big ass Manny pad was textbook 😊. I was actually lucky to see some of these. He skated so fast it was unreal watching the cameraman try to keep up, you can catch some of the lines. 😅

He had such a carefree yet stylistic flow to his skating. One of the most underrated street skaters of the 90s and 2000s.
