stunning take working with found materials! . however ...this interpretation also suggests what has become a standard convention. Rzewski's performance itself contrived no specific rhythms for this piece; he narrated it quite naturally. FR notates Coming Together narration as **metrical**. narrators employing consistent "no-upbeat" stuttering approach an unnatural, perhaps even pedantic interpretation of the the text formatted simply & non-rhythmically above downbeats ... there's no explicit rhythmic notation for the words; FR performed with natural English meter and energy as if simply employing commas where commas naturally seemed required, elongating and contracting indigenous rhythms rather like a buddhist chant.... employing meter to great effect as if he were spontaneously reading a newly received yet painful letter from a close comrade - which gradually, eventually, deeply upsets him, until he is raving passionate, frustrated, threatening to become unhinged (in terms of his commanding volume) and break spectacle walls by the end, realizing his dangerous friend has been summarily executed beyond time or reason... all with free tempos within the bar, generally respecting bar lines, the merest of metric essentials
yes it sounds so luminous (or something) that to me it seems to feel like I have not at all really yet heard what music actually does and is. I checked out the ecologist that she is into. also very fascinating. almost a verbal equivalent to this maybe. stay well.
Thanks, Michael! Yes how interesting. Errollyn in published by Edition Peters but we don't find it on the works list. She's active on Twitter so we'd suggest you reach out there, and if you don't hear back send us a DM with your e-mail and we'll put you in direct touch!
@@Riotensemblemusic - Thank you! I'm now in contact with Errollyn Wallen and about to purchase the score. Her music is astonishing! Can't wait to include out on my recital tours.
@@Riotensemblemusic - The score arrived today. Just in time fir my summer residency at Yellowstone Nat. Park. Perfect timing! Thank you, again for bringing this great piece to my attention.
That is one amazing performance! Well done. It seems to be played by heart as well. This piece requires a great amount of control over the instrument as well as the body. It is an almost endless line, with hardly any space to breathe. The video and the sound are very good too. Bravo.
This is incredible; I started watching this while drinking my tea and ended up losing track of 16 minutes?!?! Kept on full volume whole time; do not regret. Absolutely beautiful x
What a stunning performance! And thank you for this super high quality video! I appreciate the effort and - more important - the love you put into this project!
Just because a couple people seem to have this misconception, of course we would not do such a thing without the composer’s knowledge. He did hear it, and he thought it was fantastic…!
