Thank you for this video! I just picked up a 2011 E90 for my wife and dropped this head unit in it. I've seen a lot of backup cam how-tos but never such a detailed instruction on running the wires. Regarding this Eonon unit, do you know if its possible to change the steering wheel controls?
To prevent hitting the curb when parking parallel, try selecting the left side mirror with the mirror select (where you can adjust pan and tilt). shifting into reverse gear should now make the passenger side mirror tilt down automatically as long as it is in reverse. it will tilt up once a forward/neutral/park gear is selected. should work on all bmw with electric side mirrors. you can also tap into the obd port with your obd tool / app of choice and adjust the amount auf tilt to adjust for… I don‘t know… lowered cars. 😎
that's a header tank/breather tank , it's not a swirl pot . there's no swirl , all 3 fittings are spraying at each other. it's not particularly efficient at its job honestly the way its built. and i love HPI, but this is a part to pass on. because of the lack of swirl and appropriately sized return , the water is turbulent inside and doesn't drain well or properly . . its under enough pressure to just keep the air moving and not allow it to centralize and surface . swirl makes that funnel effect allowing the air to go to center and bleed out through the rad cap , to overflow.
It should be mentioned that 3m have 3 headlight restoration kits!! I am unsure which one includes a polycarbonate polish? It's a critical step in my opinion to hydrate and seal the lens and gives extra clarity and shine!! This comes after the p3000 trizact disk, Remove all white residue with any glass cleaner spray wipe lens with a micro fibre cloth and allow to dry before applying the clearcoat!! I don't like the wipes instead chose Meguiars certified clearcoat with added UV protection, My headlights look brand new again, People tend to forget the importance of after care, Every time I use the car wash I use Turtle wax with sun blocking on the lens a small blob on m/fibre clean cloth hand light buffing works wonders and improves longevity!!! You did a great job nevertheless😊🤔👍
Just found out that my after market wheels need spacers. The shock biting into the tire inside already took out chunks. I didn't even know. These spacers on this channel look like best option. Hope I solve this issue. I'm going to need new tires too😢
Has anyone got this camera setup work on a E90/2 6MT without PDC? If so what did you use for your power trigger from the stock cic system? i have everything but that and i really dont want to retrofit a pdc module just to have the reverse signal on the can-bus... I have a CIC with RVC adapter emulator installed and it needs to be AT or 6MT with PDC or CA i believe, i dont have either and i dont want PDC on my E92. All i want is the rear view camera to work that ive already installed and wired up to the dash, for the extra visibility.. Even if I have to manually trigger it, which id want to be able to do anyway but you can do that thru CIC if done the stock method.
The reverse light and all the lights on the car are controlled by their modules and the light is controllled with PWM to the light. So yeah its not a steady voltage and not good for trigger unless you used a relay with a slight delay to it basically, i forget the name for it..
I was hoping to see how you wired the backup detect wire. Instead of using it for that purpose, you used it for 12v ACC. Did you consider having a backup detect? What happens when you put the car in drive after backing up? Does the camera turn off immediately or does it stay one until the car reaches 15 MPG?
Tyler the hose that goes from the original radiator neck overflow tube nipple, and now goes to the swirl pot - is this hose now under pressure all the time I take it?
So you tapped the A0581 Red power line behind head unit, what ground did you tap in rear on tail light? What’s the color wire on the tail light? Do I run a power cable from the rear of the trunk to the a0581 connector too? Or just from the short red connector at headunit:

Did your handle fit snug in the hole in the trunk? Mine is very loose so it moves side to side but i cant see that i did anything wrong, just china quality perhaps?
Just got one from gktech that’s pretty similar, Dan didn’t make a install video like he does with every other gktech part but this was spot on with what I was looking for much appreciated!
I ended up doing my thermostat and waterpump around 150k as preventative maintenance. They were okay except the upper mounting ear of the pump broke off (bad rubber mounts). I think doing coolant flushes, keeping good coolant mixture in the system attributed to that. You'll know if it is an original waterpump if the aluminum bolts have blue dots on the ends still. If not, it's been changed before
Havent gone back to work on the car in some time. Other priorities came up so this has been put on the back burner. Fuel level sender should connect right in. I do remember on this particular kit there is marking on the sender for which way to put the rod and float in. Hope that helps
