Every participant in New Zealand's aviation community shares a responsibility for safety and security. The role of the CAA is to see that aviation participants meet the standards set by the Minister of Transport in the public interest.
I just bought a DJI Neo. I don't think I would have bothered if I had known about all the BS regulations. I just want to play with my toy 🤣 but find that even my own back garden in Invercargill is a no-fly zone. So far I have only flown it round the inside of my house, is that legal ??%$#@
Question? I know the CAA made this video but was there some exemption to publish ATC? Can we do this now too? Edit, after seeing the last credits I see that all calls were re-recorded. Still would be good if laws allowed publishing of ATC, it's good for training (in my view)
That would likely be Radio Spectrum Management who could advise on changing that policy. I think it’s odd too. Would be of tremendous help to newer pilots.
You need to re-record the narration to correct the obvious mistake at 1:50. “Use of non-standard procedures can also be attributed to fatal mid-air accidents” Well yes, you would be flying in a non-standard way if you were dead. What you meant to say was … “Fatal mid-air accidents can also be attributed to flying non-standard procedures”
Mid-air collisions between manned aircraft are an all-too-common event and, as mentioned in this podcast, take a toll in human life. I find it perplexing therefore, that manned aviators can fly alone in cockpits that have very limited visibility for the purposes of situational awareness -- yet someone flying a small plastic drone on their own property using FPV and lower than tree-height is legally required to have a visual observer beside them. This is a ridiculous situation. To be reasonable and effective, regulation must be proportionate to risk -- yet that is clearly not the case in respect to some of the drone regulations under part 101. I've witnessed a number of very worrying "near miss" incidents at NZTO but none of them involved an RC model or drone -- despite the high level of such operations there.
