His protective nature comes from his own PTSD. The realisation that bullying has lifetime consequences. I’m sure his own ptsd had a lot to do with his protective instincts towards the stark girls. Same as Brianne of Tarth.
Clegane is not a bad guy, he's a cunning guy who realized the only way for him to survive is being a bad guy. If only he was born a noble he would be a man like Ned Stark
I love that The Hound is visually the last person we’d want looking after the Stark sisters (terrifying, hardened and deadly), but ended up being the exact person we wanted looking after those girls. Fearless, kind, and had a lot to teach them. Even dogs are welcome to wolves.
In book 1 the Hound tells Sansa his story himself when he’s drunk after the tourney, not Little Finger, then threatens to kill her if she tells anyone. He has fascinating relationships with people who can’t protect themselves, like he was when his brother burned him
I love how he’s not even mad at Arya for starting that fight, he just wanted to know what was gonna happen so he could get help. If I was a foot taller and 100lbs heavier, I’d relate to the hound
Joffrey trying to break free of the hound while demanding everyone around him be executed is a perfect example of his character. Your guards are being murdered, the citizens are attacking you and you want to stand in front of them and demand their death
