God damn I hate to see Nintendo/Pokemon and Pocketpair/Palworld fight each other, I love them both, and as a long serving Nintendo and Pokemon fan, I respect pocketpair Palworld for creating something Incredible for what Nintendo/Pokémon failed to do, after all we all have to get ideas from somewhere that we find inspirational. So I'm siding with Palworld and pocketpair on this, cause they don't deserve to get lawsuited by tham and I will not tolerate bullying, pocketpair is definitely going to win the case.
Where did the money go? Remember that this was going to be Sony's answer to Star Wars. It was going to make them tens of billions of dollars over a lifespan of over 10 years. With a promise like this on offer, nothing was off the table. If the most influential devs said that they wanted a take home wage before taxes in a C-Suite compensation level, they are worth it. Firewalk is, allegely, the most expensive studio in the Playstation family and indulging all those touchy and sdnsitive egos must be a big part of it. Colin also explains that most of the post-purchase money went into outsourcing whole chunks of the game to other studios to finish. Their fees were likely enormous. Finally... check the accounts of senior Monster figures. Particularly the silver-tongued rascal who sold this clunker to Sony. I'm sure that their performance bonsuses were nothing short of criminal. I won't use the 'E' word but that's got to have been happening at pre-purchase Firewalk. Nonetheless, the level of waste on team-building trips and bonuses must have been amazing.
Stuff like this convinces me money laundering has to be involved here. THAT much money for THIS game? I feel modern like video game are suffering the Hollywood effect where so many of them are over budgeted. I get that modern western games want to be movies/shows disguised as games, but this getting ridiculous.
When the game was rumoured to have cost $250 million I calculated that with that budget it cost more than Black Myth Wukong, Witcher 3 and Skyrim combined by quite a significant margin and combined those games have a player count of roughly 120 million if i remember correctly. Now that it is $400 million you could probably also have made elden ring with its budget
So it was 200, then 300, now it’s 400. Next what? Half a billion? By the end of the year Concord will cost a billion? And people eating up this crap like pancakes. Even with studio accusation it’s clearly a bullshit numbers, no proofs, just good old he said she said. Surely it’s a flop, of course it’s a waste of time, money and maybe even talent. But inability of people to rationalize is kind of odd. Sometimes Internet these days reminds me of movie called Idiocracy. Goes on par with executives who saw unlimited potential in Concord.
The gaming industry is at a low point when you see what’s happening with PlayStation, Xbox, and even Nintendo with their lawsuits. This generation overall is a massive disappointment and these companies have been making horrible decisions. 🤦🏻♂️
most people dont know this but pokemon started because they were inspired and/or copied dragon quest to even make a monster questioning game. They creators said this and even some of their designs are very similar. i wish square enix would sue nintendo in the ground and we never got it, if this is how nintendo and the pokemon company wants to act.
Maybe the time is nigh for a Switch 2 with a Pokemon as the launch title, and , while it could have also just taken this long like you said, but maybe they are doing it now in preparation for that?? Just an idea lol
I love his view on creativity and nurturing an environment that encourages more artistic expression! However I do fear that the "just break even" mentality won't be enough to appeal to stakeholders (assuming they're not privately traded). We should want games to be profitable while not putting a huge demand on every game to sell GTA numbers. With this in mind, let's hope he lets the devs continue to cook with HiFi Rush 2.
Some of the things mechanics that got patents and Nintendo can sue for : -Pokemon/Pal Storage in box (its an old patent they often renew) just look at Pokemon Arceus Box and compare -Breeding Mechanics , Egg moves, IV -Seamless transition during mounting animation (yep they patent the fact of not staying at one place to ask for a ride) -Same species having different level depending on the area they are in (EX:Finding a Magikarp at lvl 5 in the early area , then at lvl 40 in the late area) -Same Species having a range of level in the same area (EX:Magikarp been able to be catch at lvl 1-99 in the Resort Area in Pokemon Platinium)
What people don't get is that if Nintendo wins this sets a dangerous precedence. That means gaming companies can sue over mechanics of any type. Shooting a gun, Throwing a spear, capturing monsters, etc. This is less about patent infringement and about the fact They will make a dangerous fad where mechanics in videogames can never be improved and used ever. #SaveThePals
Not even a Pokemon fan, actually the closest I have come to a "Pokemon game" is Smash Bros, but even I was like "That's Lucario!!" when I saw the trailer... very risky business getting that close.
Hey so they compared models from Pokémon to Palworld and found out they were almost identical and Palworld traced over them. Models aren’t characters but they might be patented meaning Palworlds actions could fall under patent infringement. Thanks for having a more nuanced view on this than other people I’m seeing
@@KamiLeVrai that’s not true AFAIK, he scaled the models up so they could be compared as they’re different sizes. He apologised for saying ‘exactly the same’ when there were some minor differences in otherwise exceedingly similar designs. I’ve not seen anyone prove otherwise.
@@KamiLeVrai I’m going through his twitter right now, he’s literally not agreed with you. He’s illustrated his point clearly and didn’t go back on it. Someone else called him a liar and deleted their account after spreading a bunch of lies about him including making fake tweets which aren’t on his page at all.
We can’t say Palworld “died” and then complain that we get a bunch of live service games. Palworld, Hell Divers 2 did what they were supposed to. High quality games that sold tons of copies. They’ll keep updating the games for a few years and that’s all they need to do. They probably started developing some type of sequel for these games.
5:26 When Nintendo wins. The only president this set is don’t steal from Nintendo. Bro you need to stop hating Nintendo for defending their properties. There are a lot of fan games with a pokemon-ish style like you can tell it’s inspired but not stealing.

@@podcastnowplus So I was doing some research on the situation and turns out I was wrong, so far it looks like Nintendo is going drain pocket pair of it’s resources. I let my goodwill towards Nintendo blind me and I apologize for that.
You're kinda one week late on the PS Plus one. But if you do this regularly and get the announcement date right from now on you'd help me get rid on a channel subscription that does only these kind of game coming in/game leaving.
