Thanks. Gave me some ideas. Generally, it is best to have the surge suppressors outside. Keeps the sparks and hot metal outdoors. May be less of a fire hazard. Thanks again. N0QFT

It looks like ancient device from 1950 era. Big, wasting space, nasty and no modern features. I wonder why Yaesu didn't modernize it in form of new controller variant. (There are some third party alternatives but no idea about quality).

Hi Peter. I have just bought a new yaesu 1000dxc rotator. It came with a 2 pin plug for rotator with an adapter. It also came with 3 pin plug.

Thanks for the video ...I am bolting my g-1000 to a rotator cage and the orientation of the holes means the motor will not sit with the physical stop at north....there is a circular disk in the box with the controller to have north somewhere other than at the top of the controller..anyone else had to do this? Think its simply a case of fitting the disk and moving the needle accordingly...am I missing something ? thanks...

Gosh it take you 5,30minutes just to put power on!?.. Just put blody rotor on roof , someone turn monitor to North and then turn yagi tube untill points north on your compas that you have with you. And tight down and off you go.. Gosh what a play.. 7'3

Do you have an issue with a lightning strike bringing the lightning into the loft before it hits the arrestors?
@johnbauman4005
@johnbauman4005 Год назад
With all due respect, I concur that this is a troublesome solution. I can find no source that recommends placement of lightening "arrestors" inside a building including online ham radio authorities, the ARRS book referenced in the video and online electricians and engineers. The misnamed arrestors do not in fact arrest the lightning if there is a direct strike. They offer some protection from nearby strikes and static discharges. This setup is in violation of the NEC in the U.S.; I don't know about regulations in the U.K. I expect the setup works just fine for fair weather, but I am concerned about an increased fire risk in the event of a nearby lightning strike. While neatness is desirable, safety should be paramount. Kind regards, John - KK7JBZ

Great video and good for those unaware of the setup procedure..... now your challenge is to setup a G5500 with both AZ and EL and set the output voltage to your external control gear. Calibrate zero degrees and FSD, then take that reference voltages and feed it into you control gear and then calibrate again and then back to your G5500 and make sure mechanical stop and needle stop are actually in the stop area either side of FSD and Zero. If either are out of alignment; that could be a few degrees discrepancy and it’s back to the start and realignment from scratch. Fortunately most amateur satellite antennas for 2m and 70cm are 35 degrees of 3db bandwidth so not a major hassle.... it’s only when you go to 23cm, 13cm and 3cm you start to cry if your hard work is for nothing..... also EME can be problematic..... Yaesu controllers are good...... but not 1 degree of accuracy more like 3 to 5% and your not going to get that with a 500ohm potentiometer as your position feedback!! 73

Thank you for taking the time with this great video. I'm probably getting the G-450 and was unsure about the calibration until you showed us what to do. I hope you put up other videos for the other calibrations. 73's from N3NQP! One more thing if you don't mind me asking. I'm planning on running around 300 ft. of rotor cable from the antenna to my shack. Any advice for what gauge wire I need to use for that long of a distance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 73's!

Some elements over the boom, some under the boom HI. Time to unbolt! I have the Dual 9ele 2m / 16ele 70cm, with separate feed connectors. It is a well made bit of kit. I've built enough LFA Yagi's over the years, so thought it was time to put the tube cutter to one side and purchase a nice antenna instead! 73 de G0MOH.
