@@CJandEllie 😅 You may want to think about firing her! Avoiding may be a temporary solution, but may not serve YOU in the long run. I appreciate your comment! 😊
@@philcicio Dear Phil - please try to sharpen the way you promote the channel - there's an astronomical gap between the quality of the videos and the exposure in youtube!!!
The real question is how do "people" know when to attack verbally from other side of the wall? How do they know about me? How do they know that I am inside my room and working on my desk? How do they know my reaction when they start attacking me? #help
They may not know any of these questions. The most important thing is that you understand what you have control of. You can't control them, you CAN control you!
What I have come to understand and realize recently scientifical research with solid evidence pathogens how long have been mostly responsible for invading and compromising the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex sending wrong signals and completely wrecking havoc on cells, organs, everything goes out of whack and completely out of balance.. all it takes is the slightest of specific toxins slash pathogens causing neurotoxicity
I am currently going through an experience where this is happening in bursts and he is pushing the envelope of just how far he thinks he can take it. And it's extremely frustrating because his requirements are bipolar (things will change on a whim) and gets upset when I am not keen on just taking it up the rear. I'm not planning on staying much longer.
Sorry to hear that! As I always mention, it's best to first have a discussion with your manager. Often times they are unaware that they are behaving this way. If things don't improve, then it may be time to to fire your manager! Wishing you the best!
Exactly! You are spot on! This is why we need to understand them better and manage the relationship based on that understanding. If they are dysfunctional, then hard decisions need to be made.
What about the example of being very unexpectedly amygdala hijacked in public, like being cut off in traffic, unexpectedly (verbally) attacked...etc. That's a completely different scenario to dealing with people you know. I thought of an idea of keeping 'thank you' cards in my pocket and going out into the public or for walks in the city, and whenever i (inevitably) experience triggers, like rude or unfriendly people in public, i would (imaginatively) hand them a 'thank you' card, until I've confused my amygdala enough to stay calm in unexpectedly triggering situations. I wonder if that would work.
Isaac, I really like your idea. When we are hijacked like that, we go into the fight, flight or freeze mode. We don't know which will happen. Once we are in it, it is challenging to come out of it. A few deep connecting breaths can get you grounded and bring your prefrontal cortex back online so you can rationally work your way through the situation. Using your idea I feel can work, if you can get yourself there before being taken over by the hijack. The other thing I would work on, is not getting hijacked in the first place. Realize that everything that happens outside of you, like getting cut off in traffic, just is until you give it a story. The story you give it is what generates the emotion and anxiety. The anxiety is from time traveling into the future with a negative outcome. It is difficult, but being able to stay in the present will help you think and respond and help get you out of the situation better. Let me know how your idea works, I believe it can! Thanks for reaching out.
My issue is trading in the futures market where I close my position early because I get scared out of my position. Or I'll close early when it hasn't hit my Profit target yet because I'm afraid of losing my gains
I'm not an expert on trading, however trading scared may be from investing money you are afraid of losing. When risking something you don't want to lose, your brain perceives this as a threat and you go into the hijack. When your in the amygdala hijack, it is difficult to reason and think. You are operating from your emotional mind not logical mind. When investing, I would want to be using logic. Maybe try trading next time witha small amount of money you can afford to lose without it having a significant impact on you financially. Take note of how you think and make decisions with this trade that is less threatening. I'd bet you will make more logical decisions. Of course trading is risky and you could still lose your money, the difference is that you will understand and learn since you made those decisions logically and not while being emotionally hijacked! Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
My supervisor is a micromanagement. Thank God she only comes to our office bi-weekly. Re-doing reports 2, 3, 4 times is inefficient, unproductive, and abuse to employees!!!!!
Abuse is a great word Kimberly! Embrace that your supervisor only comes in bi-weekly. Also, as I mentioned in the video, bombard him/her with info before being asked. See if that helps! Thanks for watching, I hope it helped. 😊
Great advice! One question, though: I work in education and whenever I update my principal or administrator in advance, they end up giving me more work. As a result I communicate less with my superiors. Any suggestions?
Hi Carlos, I'm glad you enjoyed my message, thanks for watching and your question. I believe it is a great sign when you update your supervisors and they delegate more work to you. One caveat thought, does the work they delegate to you tend to empower you more than often than not, or does it feel like they are just dumping work on you since you have given them the opportunity? If the work empowers you, embrace it! It shows they trust you and value your competence. Also, if the added work overwhelms you, you need to let them know. Most managers don't realize when someone on their team is overwhelmed, don't make the assumption that they know. They simply may not be aware. You are obviously a valued employee or they wouldn't be asking you to do more. I certainly wouldn't delegate to an employee I can't trust to get it done and get it done well. Look at your situation from a different perspective and if you really feel like it is time to say no to the additional work, then you need to do this professionally. I hope this helps!
Yes, thank you! I'll try to reframe it in the future. To give you an idea though, just yesterday I told my principal about a plan to reward students. She loved the plan and then told me to buy a bag of M & Ms (her initials) for each student with a note saying "From your principal." I honestly am not feeling to valued by that directive.
Micromanagement= Incompetence who denies, sabotages the skills and talents of other group members out of fear of being replaced or exposed for lack of lidership! Simplier: I am not willing to be open to new, better ways of achievement because it took me time to convince the organisation that my way works...even though I know it isn't! I dont have the energy, time to start new. So I will do everything on my power to control others approach and progression because I choose to be stagnant and self-righteous! Narcissism

Give it some time.if he is new. Maybe building a relationship which will give you an opportunity to share this concept with him at some point will help the team "Man Splainer" 🤣
Interesting to note that we are still here as a species because of how this mechanism evolved. Our ancestors didn't have time to rationalise if there was a tiger in front of them. Those that did died and don't pass on their genes! It is a wholly automatic process and comes before we have time to think. Evolutionary mismatch: our brains evolved for an environment that we no longer inhabit. A large part of being a functional modern human is recognising and controlling our animalistic tendencies/impulses.
I don't care about micromanagers because I live below my means and invest for passive income. I gradually lessen my need to be a wage slave. Everyone should be spending time doing what they enjoy doing and not just grinding away like some tool.
They just want all white colored employees at Lowe’s Lehi! If you’re black or brown skin colored employees then start looking for another job! Bad or good white Americans are the only acceptable in Lowes Lehi! Too much racist right? White American kids, adults and senior citizens are the only employees allowed to work at Lowe’s Lehi! 😂😂😂😂😂
I was micromanaged and berated for making mistakes as a new accountant. I got to a point where I no longer felt comfortable asking questions and when I did he made me feel stupid for asking them. I had a nagging feeling he would fire me and I would just hope he gave me enough time to learn and leave on my own. He eventually did fire me on a monday morning conveniently right after my monthly duties were completed. Even the way he fired me made me feel like he couldn't wait to get rid of me. Barely spoke one sentence to me and threw me to HR and dropped the call instantly. I had barely had my review 3 months prior we're we both acknowledged my progress and where I could improve.
Sounds like he did you a favor! Why would anyone want to work for someone that berates them instead of helping them grow. Go out and find someone that wants to develop your skills and help you be the best you can be!
It certainly is Emily! This is why it's so important to get in front on the onset. Being intentional and aware is so important. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it!
I have been in leadership, here is my thoughts. I have never worked for an organization that prepared their leaders for the person to person interactions and how best to navigate the complex world of relationships to benefit everyone. It is an overwhelming task with many variables. It's pretty much a sink or swim situation. Those leaders that meet organizational goals will last, and those that do not fail. Don't forget that your boss is more replaceable than you are ;)
My husband and I opened an engineering company five years ago and sold it to an equity firm. The first company they bought was in charge of merging the two companies. Now I ran HR payroll and did executive administration as a part-time person for five years by myself. Now that there’s no need for my position, they asked if I wanted to work in the new company in their HR department. My boss who is about 62, is treating me like a 22-year-old intern. 😂 wanting to know why I didn’t give advance notice for working from home ( it was a snowstorm and I wasn’t sure how much snow it would be) when I had to work in another office for two hours. She wanted to know why I couldn’t drive to the other location and work the other two hours instead of staying put. There are lots of other things as well, but those are the two that really struck me. I’m about to go in and give my notice tomorrow because at 54 I’m just not going to be treated like this. It’s quite a shame because I had a lot of automation ideas to offer to replace their outdated methods, but oh well!
Firing your manager! Good for you. It's too bad that so many managers feel tye need to control. They have internal image and trust issues. Congratulations on selling your company!
Phil, you were a part of a similar I attended in Atlanta. You spoke on unlocking your team’s potential. I thanked you in person and have thought a lot about the breakout season I was in with you. You made an incredible impact on me and have a great presence in a room. Thank you again.
Hey Les, thanks for your kind words. I appreciate it. I'm so happy to have been able to make a positive difference for you. Hope to see you at another event in the future!
100% spot on. I've definitely fired a boss before for this. I am a really hard worker, with positive, conscientious focus towards my work. I work as a team, or as a leader. Im very flexible. Indeed I even understand that there are times, where someone has to manage a project or job from top to bottom, inside and out. But these are the exceptions, to the rule, and usually only for a brief time span But when someone is micromanaging on a day to day basis, and done so with complete control, ignoring skilled individuals around them.... I'm getting ready to leave.
Spot on and we'll said Parnellio! It's nice to have the awareness and courage to fire a manager like that! I always advocate an open discussion with your manager first to give them a chance to correct their micromanagement behavior. If there is no change, then you must decide. Can I accept this and be at peace with it, or is it time to fire my boss? Well done.
I try to breath and re-center my mind from a meditation stand point. I've found that the deeper and more drawn out my breath the longer I have to regroup my thoughts in a calm state of mind. Deep breathing is an easy thing to edit out. Rushed speech, fluttered eyes, and constant umms after every topic switch not so much.
