When did the new owners say they would win the Champions League in 5 years? Total rubbish. The new owners are a breath of fresh air and if one transfer window sours your attitude towards them, the problem is yours not the clubs

I don't buy any of that whatsoever about them being embarrassed and so on. Let's not forget the team Stavely and Mehrdad brought in. The players signed, the new deals with Adidas, along with other sponsors like sela. If there's anything at play it's that the pif have realised the rules in place are a waste of time and are more reluctant now to push on progressively the way they started because they aren't being allowed the freedom they want for success unlike previous club ownerships have had so they now need to slowly do it which is probably not what they wanted originally. There's nothing fair about the current rules and for some reason the football world, bar a few figures would prefer we never achieve anything up here. But we do have a great squad, let's not forget that and if we can actually add to it in January. Then we can finish well providing injuries aren't high too by January, again forcing us to ignore key positions we need to strengthen

Eales wanted Amanda out not PIF, that is why she left. For me, we know it will time to build and if intent was the same then you do not leave a summer transfer window weaker than when you started. I think ambition of PIF has changed and why we are seeing current activity. Mitchell’s interview also a PR disaster, might be a great Sporting Director but he is in the early reader section on PR
I think Eddie has proven himself (4th place, 7th with injuries, and great recruitment) so Eddie should choose the player(s) to strengthen the 1st team. Mitchell needs to find young future stars. Dan found Minteh and the club made£30 million. Basically Eddie has the power until results get poor - and then Eales/Mitchell have the power and will sack Eddie.
Honestly, No, it did not. However, Football is an unpredictable sport. Nick pope was everything for us and i think Howe was risky trying not to change the player and burning Spur's stamina.The game was changed in last 30 mins before the 2nd half whistle .At the moment, i saw Murphy's substitution. I knew the momentum was changed. It was time for us the speedy counter attacking and yes, its workful. But if we lost the second goal before that, .......couldn't imagine
One concern for me is how slow things have gone within the past year in regards to commercial deals. I’m excluding Adidas because that was a deal struck last year. We haven’t secured a training ground sponsor, haven’t secured a training kit sponsor, the exclusivity deal on kits with JD means that if anyone wants to buy a Newcastle shirt in-store outside of Newcastle, it’s become a lot harder to find the shirts in person which is ridiculous when we have Adidas compared to Castore previously. And the longer they take to decide on what’s happening with the stadium side, the longer it’s going to be to sell any form of sponsorship for it, whether that’s some form of naming rights or a partnership
When you read between the lines of what Mitchell has said, it basically spells out that the scouting and recruitment isn’t properly organised or thought through And in some ways it’s not surprising because Ashworth had been on gardening leave for months and you then wonder who picked up the slack in the meantime and did that person carry on Ashworth’s work or improvise?!? The other thing Mitchell seems to have implied was when he came through the door the scouts were not looking in the places he’d have wanted them to be looking…in other words they’ve spent the past few months wasting time watching the wrong leagues, clubs and players and as a result there wasn’t much that could be done from the pool of targets, because you can’t exactly send your scouts out to analyse anyone else in preseason considering the months of coverage that is required and the lack of competitive club football going on Scouting and recruitment being run badly doesn’t surprise me in some aspects because despite the praise Ashworth gets from the media most deals can actually be traced back before his time at the club and I believe it’s probably only Tonali, Hall and Livramento that have his fingerprints on, as every other player we have either been watching previously or had already enquired about. Ashworth is also supposedly more geared towards developing academies also as opposed to recruitment setups, the academy was meant to be his specialism.
Excellent discussion, it wouldn't be the toon unless there wasn't any turbulence would it. If Mitchell goes down the Brighton route, ie looking for hidden gems, it can be done, certainly until our resources are at the point where we can go for the big fish straight off. It may take a few years of course. Regarding Man City and Begiristain, they really went for it from 2011 onwards, but is this not the period up until 2017 when they are under investigation regarding PSR, they certainly did not follow the rules did they. We are follwing the rules to the letter it seems. PSR rules could be about to be severely tested, means only good news for NUFC.
Amanda helped the club get into the Champions League inside two years. Oh yeah, she was embarrassing. I look forward to someone coming in and doing better than Eddie Howe. As Graham Souness once said, be careful what you wish for.
If rumours are to be believed, we went for Topsoba then Thiaw after Tosin (must be something about CBs and the letter T, ha) but they all knocked us back, so Guehi wasn't our only option, he was our last option.
If they were allowed to buy and no injuries we would be chasing Man City and maybe winning the title. Leicester did it in a season with a moderate squad no grand plans needed just clicking on the pitch. As for Amanda and experience just look at what she bought and look at what others bought or lack og it .... enough said.
I don’t get the idea of villa improving. They lost Luiz and Diaby and replaced diaby with a teenager and Luiz with Onana. That’s not improvement. Stop capping
It's touched on here but it is my main concern, do we know what the current plan is? Who is the person plotting the path forward at the club, is everyone else behind that person? It doesn't feel like it, it feels like everyone has their own ideas of what needs doing and the vision is not aligned at all. Who is actually in charge?!
Great pod and discussion guys. Think everyone in our fan base needs to listen to this right now as there's a lot of division going on between us all. One thing I will say is that everyone took the "5 year plan" way too seriously at the time. I'm sure she said 5-10 years and maybe only in defense again Simon Jordan in that conversation where she got belittled did she maybe say "in 5 years". Nobody could have thought we would win the champo league with the players we have now and the monstrosity of the injury led season we had last season. The Nick pope catastrophe before the league cup... The injury he got last season that left us wide open at the back...no wonder we have 5 bloody back ups this season! The bottom line is that everyone is trying their best for our club to get us to where we want to be and that is also the most important thing. We WILL get there one day. But people have to understand just how hard that objective is to do. Look at arsenal. Look at Liverpool. Look at all the other top teams with plenty of funds... It's not easy for a reason. We will grow and learn bit by bit and that's why I am and always will be in the "just chill out and be thankful for what we have and where were going" - camp. Even kicking off about our 'performances' 3 games into the season when we're 5/4th in the league and unbeaten in all 3(4) games... Are we seriously supposed to be that critical of our club already?? Absolutely not in my opinion. Even if we lost all 4 games I'm just like "well that's unusual but I'm sure we'll kick ourselves on eventually". Problem of transfer window was that we should have had alternatives to Guehi, once the first bid was rejected I think it was obvious that Palace weren't going to sell to us. I don't think Parish likes the owners and just played us along for 2 months which probably distracted us from doing business elsewhere
great balance account, personally I think Eales should get more heat as he said the window would be transformative, yet no big signings. Also the growth of commercial revenue is not as good as it needs to be to help psr, so Silverstone is also accountable.
Essentially we are in the worst place to be for PSR - the second growth phase. When PIF took over we had absolutely no depth to the squad. The first "spending spree" was to fix that. The next bit and I think Mitchel aluded to it, although personally I thought he was excessively vague, is to start generating revenue and profit through moving on players that although probably still good enough for the squad can be leveraged to bring in players directly into the first team. A lot of clubs refer to this as creating headroom for the transfer budget. To do this you need to already have a reasonable strength in depth and to have an established stream of new talent from accademy/feeder clubs etc. This is the area we are sort of stalled in at the minute. Everythin is about growing revenue, and the new rules that have been thrown together make that very hard. APT comes pretty close to saying you can only get sponsorship that profits from your established success, not that invests in the journey. Si's biggest hump you might say 😅
I think the problem is officials at the club want to progress it to the same kind of model all the successful big clubs work under but Howe wants us to be essentially Bournemouth on steroids with a close knit family feel. This is why things ain’t meshing and I think Howe is full of it too how can he say he doesn’t deal with transfers when his family relation is part of the set up and tindall apparently scouted our new striker. Also giving Mitchell the impossible task of prising Guehi from palace when they didn’t need to sell and had already sold one of their cbs. Foolish stuff
Well Paul Mitchell isn’t the best sporting director in the world and to be honest I have never heard a bigger load of shite. Of all The people who knows how to run a club is Eddie Howe who’s done more than any sporting director and certainly more than Mitchell who’s just tried to pass the buck. Getting paid millions but trying to suggest he’s just an observer 🤔
There is a bit of the emperor’s new clothes about the Paul Mitchell situation. Yes, Howe has his flaws but he’s shown he’s committed and capable. Who is willing to risk losing that for someone, who let’s face it, has not operated at this level, rarely if ever negotiated deals like the one he was tasked with last month, and has a habit of switching to the next opportunity in the Recruitment/Sporting Director circuit after 2 or 3 years.
They've spent little so far. A few million on the training ground and a paint job at SJP. No extension, no new stadium, no new training ground. But #HWTL and lasses.

Regarding the comment about Guehi, Howe saying 'I want this player, go get him' - smacks of a person who has little to zero experience in executive positions. You can't get what can't be bought. Palace sold Olise for big money & sold Joachim Andersen to Fulham. Parish stated that 'The club won't sell 2 CBs in this window'. To think that Mitchel failed to deliver on that impossible transfer is naive at best and utterly clueless at worse. The deal was never going to be made. The comment "not spending for the sake of it makes sense but the Journos twisted it to seem like Howe was saying 'Get me him or else!' Nonsense.
Newcastle acted far to slowly. Getting your no1 target in when the window opens is logical. Palace would of been more receptive if they hadn't sold anyone. The people in important positions are either amateurs or they are incompetent.
Freedman, Olise & Guehi all from Palace? Freedman was NEVER gonna come to NUFC. He's a Palace Legend with close ties to Ferguson at Man U. I'm not interested in who we didn't sign. Mitchell was approached before Freedman but was still on hiatus / assessing options. The club got the man they wanted.
It’s only more difficult because the premier league don’t want Newcastle to make progress. If it’s beneficial to Newcastle united then the rules will change.
Great chat guys, fantastic analysis of our situation. We are majorly overachieving and now we have to chat up. I got the feeling the other dat that something awesome is coming up in Jan, so we just have to be patient, and I don't think a large majority of the fan base is. I'M STILL OPTIMISTIC
I think he (Mitchell) was referring to Tony Blooms data driven approach - the database he had which finds unearthed gems of players and managers consistently. That’s why he refereed to them as best in class as the approach we will be adopting. Obviously a manager like Eddie Howe isn’t what you’d look for using tbat model so I would imagine his days are very much numbered. But we’ll see
Our GK situation is indicative of the mess we are in with the transfer policy, this happened before Mitchell came in. How we can have our first choice with a slightly worrying injury situation, and back that up with Dubs who has been on his way out for seemingly years now, John Ruddy and Vlachodimos is beyond any reason or strategy.
It will be either Howe or Mitchell who goes - until then we are going to be stuck , Mitchell essentially wants to present players to Howe to choose from - everybody knows it should be the other way around, Paul Mitchell is not fit for purpose - Hopefully he wont last long (Mr Eales can f off too)
Why does it need to be the other way around. Klopp didn’t want Salah and look at how good that worked out for him. Eddie’s strengths are in his coaching, so i’d be confident with Mitchell identifying targets
"everybody knows it should be the other way around" what are you talking about man? It only works like that here, we need to be aligning to how the most successful clubs work, not what Howe wants. He's never been at this level before.
@@jdevlin1910 id rather have my manager choose how to play and who to sign - Eddie Howe has had more experience on the field than Paul Mitchell regardless of level, IMO Howe should give Mitchell a list or a profile per position then let Mitchell do his work - i dont like the fact that Eddie Howe has been our best manager since SBR and all of a sudden he has Two new bosses judging him and not backing him, we shall see hopefully im wrong but something tells me Mitchell is bad news.
