Love these old stories . His son Paul taught me at school The Rattler a Legend of Tipperary Hurling History .. lived up the road from my grandmother, my grandmother told similar stories . Proof of how great the Irish are for stories . And those days unless you have blood on your face , you haven't played real hurling ..
What an amazing team, they had amazing knack of getting goals, brilliant goals, this what separates Kilkenny from the rest, and future Kilkenny teams did the same. Best hurling team I have ever seen, incredible consistency they were a juggernaut pulverised any team that stood in its way. They also had the amazing ability to get the job done well before halftime and run up incredible high scores. Amen
Every county has storytellers like Rattler , probably a bit biased but hilariously entertaining. As he said, hurlers who would literally " have your life " on the field became lifetime friends with opponents , because they respected the fact that each one was doing it " for the love of their own little village " . That was the true spirit of the GAA and long may it remain that way..
Left Thurles broken hearted. Cork got the breaks on the day, but what a game, two great teams giving it everything for the jersey. Those were Tipps wilderness years. Now Cork are going through theirs. The greatest rivalry in Irish sport. Nothing beats Cork and Tipp in Thurles on warm July Sunday. The passion, the skill, the pride in the Jersey. The craic, between the supporters walking up from the square to the field.
Great stories Jimmy Smyth vissited the Rattler one night .Outside was an oil lorry thought he had changed jobs .Inside was The great Christy Ring.@ 2 hurling balls everywhere .The Rattler came to Willie John Dalys removal .Theres loyalty for you.
Forwards get all the Glory for goals in this case Denis Mulcahy's interception was Crucial in the build up to Séany learys goal he took it well...@paddy Sullivan Cork
@@feargal2433 hi ,it must have been some experience to be there, what an unbelievable atmosphere,an absolute epic match, love to have the full match, something to treasure
Great days Cork had massive belief in there jersey and there Sport...what a contrasting situation today...22 years since a NHL was won...going 16 years for a Ireland title...we seem to be accepting to be 4th or 5th now in the Hurling world😧
Denis Mulcahy's interception in which led to Sean O Leary's goal was Crucial. ..Cork were Going to die in there boots to the final whistle, Great Team.. Will Never forget them....when you think how Cork have Fallen in to almost a Division 2 Team now...its very disappointing. ...@paddy Sullivan
It's so bizarre looking at this in 2020 and just thinking how utterly ridiculous that somebody had to come home from a holiday because he was gay. I'd certainly hope things are different now..
I watched this game on TV in Cork with 2 tech guys from Tipp. They were so pissed. Like really really pissed for years after. Never wanted to talk about that game. Any other game was fine but that game really pissed them off.
One of the only recordings of Nicky Rackard playing. Possibly the greatest hurler in history, even today no one can come close to beating his goal record. He also has the most scores in a single match where Wexford beat Antrim and Rackard scored 7 goals and 7 points. A legend of the sport.
