1:23 it honestly sounds like marina is in pain and is crying for help. And the more whispery bits sound more like shes being drained of her life force. Ouch.
This game did fakeout final bosses based on the previous game's final bosses twice (dj octavio for the main story like splatoon 1, callie for splatoon 2 since she lost splatoon 1's final fest) and it surprised me both times
I love how the beginning of her singing is more leaning towards whispering, like she’s shy and not really putting her passion into it because she’s singing against her will. Then her singing picks up in volume, but that’s when you can notice the cracks and strain in her voice. It’s like she’s both being puppeteered and crying out for help at the same time
this track has gotta be my favorite in the side order dlc, i love video game music that emphasizes the story and current situation at the time it plays. the instrumental is simple without much changes, yet still sounds intimidating, which really works for the theme of order. it's also made up almost entirely of synths and digital instruments, which contrasts with how most of the "chaotic" music in s3 so far has used mainly physical instruments like guitars, drums, etc. with the occasional synth here and there. im also just absolutely obsessed with marina's vocals here. her voice starts off almost like a whisper, sounding half-hearted and weak, like she either doesn't have the strength to sing or isn't even thinking about it. then it transitions to her singing in a much stronger voice, with more will and passion in it but also sounding desperate, like she was giving up before but after she realizes eight and pearl are there to help her she finds the strength to fight and let them know she's not herself.
Bro istg the octo leitmotif instantly makes any song a 10/10 The way it shows up in ROTM too is so funny, for like 2 levels before they pull the rug under you
I love this song. It shows Marina still in her element but shows her being controlled with her vocals coming out as strained and raspy first then as strong as ever
Love this boss theme both in general and conceptually; the way she's singing doesn't feel like her heart is really in it, which makes sense since she's mind-controlled
Also in case you aren't aware it was released worldwide when it was 12:00 AM in JST (Japanese Standard Time) so if you live in the USA you technically could've been playing this for a few hours now.
Nintendo seems to do DLC releases differently than actual game releases. For DLCs: Releases everywhere in the world at 12:00 AM (Midnight) JST, regardless of your current time zone. For games: Varies depending on your time zone, but if you got it from the Nintendo eShop it should be 12:00 AM (Midnight) in whichever time zone you are in.
