You’ve traveled from Rhodes to Annesburg today and after learning no rooms are free you decide to camp just outside the industrial town. You start a small fire and cook the game you hunted on your travels. When you finish eating you read a couple of pages of your new book, recommended to you by the Antique store owner in Saint Denis. You settle down, enjoying the crackling of the campfire and the sounds of industry in the distance.
"Trying to relax" "Red Dead Online" See, there's your problem. You're trying to relax in Red Dead Online. According to people I've met in RDO (and from posts people have made regarding other players in RDO), there's no place for anything in the game that's _not_ killing other players. According to these players, if you want to play Red Dead Online to: -Fish -Hunt Animals -Search for treasure -collect animal hides -participate in horse races -perform free roam jobs (basically, anything that can earn you money in the game) Then you have no business playing the game. If you play RDO, and you're sole intention isn't to spend your entire time chasing down and attacking other player unprovoked, then you're nothing more than a "whiny, self-entitled brat who doesn't deserve to play games". (actual quote, btw) I've seen people make posts bragging about the things they got up to in Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer, and how "if anyone knew about the things we would do, we'd be kicked offline permanently". I've seen people complain about players _getting upset about getting attacked against their will_ in this game. I've seen people complain about players who only want to fish or hunt animals (i.e. make money). I've seen people _complain_ about Rockstar _adding the ability for players to make private lobbies_ in RDO. No, they weren't complaining about private lobbies being added to the (then in Beta) multiplayer _after_ its release, they were complaining about private lobbies _in general_ . Yes, I saw people complaining about _private_ lobbies _simply existing_ in RDO. I myself have been attacked by two players, who decided to make harassing me their entertainment for the day, and followed me across games. Every time I would go to a new game, they'd use the "join player" option on my profile to track me across lobbies, and hunt me down. If I was in my camp, they'd both verbally and physically taunt me while looking for ways to kill me while within my camp (trying to circumvent the passive feature of the camps). If I was in a race, they'd spend the duration of the race attacking me (and only me). These two players attacked me because they "didn't like what I said to them", and were bragging about how "make sure you have fun today, because you'll never be able to play online ever again", essentially threatening to 'Report' me and get my account banned. (spoiler alert, it didn't work, and I'm still online to this day...though this interaction has effectively made it so that I can't enjoy playing online games with others anymore. Because of this one interaction, I'm scared to talk to other players in voice chat. Even though it's been _literal years_ since this occurred, I have a hard time talking to others through voice-chat, out of fear that I'll say something someone doesn't like, and that they'll decide to hunt me down for it.)
I've found plenty of opportunity to relax in Online, actually! Players that harras you block through the Rockstar website so they can't follow you and just change sessions. I'm level 177 now and ppl hardly bother me, if only modders and new players and things like these only happen like once or twice a session, I'm used to it. Used to play in solo sessions until I got bored and started joining other players. Yes there are some really annoying ppl and yes RDO is infested with modders and cheaters, but overall it's not a problem if you're chill they just leave you alone. Also turned voice chat off as it's annoying, and it's only turned on for posse members. Had a modder keep exploding me and following me across servers. I started spamming him with friend requests until he got mad and had to block ME. Never saw him again haha. Sometimes a modder spawns in right next to me or scares me with a stupid sound effect, I just blow a kiss at them and they disappear haha. Hope you find some nice ppl to play with as this is truly an amazing game if you get past all the imperfections and find some buddies to protect and help you!
shit i like the modders to the most part its funny to me and more entertaining than a lot of the content that rockstar has put into rdo sadly. plus my pockets are lined without having to grind a ridiculous amount just to have the gold to afford businesses and special items. economy is broken in the game anyways so people buying menus and dropping money for people and just doin crazy shit can be a lot of fun. the griefers can be annoying but over all most of the modders i come across will be nice if i talk to them. idk just my experience
Some modders now have it so that your game crashes when you try and report in-game.. When they don't bother me I leave it alone but you can always just block someone from the Rockstar profile so they don't follow you around. Just a tip hihi
Don't. Unless you plan on staying in Solo/Private lobbies. I don't know how much the game has changed since 2019, but the majority of players you'd find in Red Dead Online are some of the _worst_ people you could find in an online game. If you weren't an absolute god at the controls, weren't exploiting glitches/bugs, or didn't have an unbeatable loadout (those perks you could give your character as they leveled up), you would get mercilessly hunted down by other players. (most of the time, for no other reason than simply for _existing_ ). Outside of _exceedingly_ hostile players bogging down the experience, there isn't much to do in the multiplayer. (again, this is based on what was available when the multiplayer was in Beta) Because Rockstar modeled RDO after GTAO, all of the tasks that give you the most money are made so that other players can attack you and interrupt you: A job where you delivery a wagon to a location? Other players can attack you and steal the wagon. A job where you hunt down a kill a character? That character is actually another player, who will no doubt use this as an excuse to make your time online a living hell. Want to participate in a race? Other players will kill you if it means they can finish higher than you. Even the Treasure Hunter and Trader professions aren't safe, as they follow the same formula as all the "professions" in GTAO: Trying to find treasure makes you vulnerable to other players, and collecting materials/selling goods as a Trader can be interrupted by other players, as they can steal your supplies/goods for themselves, putting either materials or money in their pockets instead of yours. (just like in GTAO, where stealing supplies for your businesses can be interrupted by other players, and trying to sell your business' goods can be ruined by other players, who can destroy your goods while you're trying to sell them) Again, this is all based on what I personally experienced myself when I played last in 2019. I've no doubt the game has improved in the last 6-7 years.
