Not really. In some cases you’ll use structured text, but most stuff uses ladder logic. A solid understanding of C can help you with structured text and programming logic but it’s definitely not a must have.
Well i worked in Poland as mechatronics fitter in medium size companny and i asked PLC programmers about their's monthly salary they earn only 1480USD so i'm sure that i will learn Germany and move from my country for better money.
i use an arduino mega controllino with arduino nano as grbl controller on a small parts industrial manipulator for inserting 2 small brass made parts inside a plastics injection mould.. Some problems at the beginning of the project as rs 422 interfacing of the 12 bits incremental encoders for position reached check , resolved by spi checked external 32 bit counters , self made fiber optics based reflective photosensors etc...The major lost of time was about the realisation of some pcbs double layer with metallised holes for vias made in workshop too... My factory is so little , we are 3 employees , dwell time due to covid ,lockdown and other factors helps us to have time to think and realise .I dont want to compete with plc users but due of my age my plc s background is stopped at ladder age. Arduino C' s and byte oriented keywords takes me a little time to learn them instead of proprietary or iec standard plc language learning..
PLC is not more reliable than Arduino. I've been using VB6 for input/output interface applications for decades. Originally, pre-usb, I used DB25 printer ports to connect to the outside world. When Arduino came along, this changed everything. Integrating VB6 with Arduino and long range RF devices gives a $2 Nano the power of a PC.!!!! Thousands of these remote Slave devices can send/receive data to/from individual and even multiple PCs. This allow users to control and see every aspect of the work being performed automatically or by user onscreen buttons in real time. Spare Slaves are ridiculously inexpensive and this allows one to change out a failing/failed unit with a spare in mere seconds. THIS alone is reason enough to scrap PLC as most industrial systems require waiting days, sometimes weeks, for a Tech just to show up. As for limitations, I can control 768 relays with one pin of a Nano: www.ezlst.com/WS2811breakoutstorelays.mp4
I’m a control systems engineer and I don’t have a ton of experience, but I can share what worked for me. I took every control systems class that I could find as well as mechatronics and intro to robotics. If you can find a professor doing automation or controls based research, that’s a huge plus! But if not, see if you can apply automation knowledge to school or personal projects, it’ll look amazing on a new grad resume. Also check out online resources like Ignition’s Inductive Academy to learn about PLC coding. Basically any experience you can find with PLCs might get you a foot in the door
Hi , I have bachelors degree electrical engineering I have 2 years experience as a tester and basic programming IOP module But I want to learn how to program plc and drives such as G120X or Allen Bradly
Honestly, I’d check to see if you can get your hands on a Studio 5000 and/or FactoryTalk license through work or education. They’re kinda hard to get so if not, watch a bunch of videos on them and maybe see if someone is doing some sort of small project or research just to get your foot in the door. If you can find an integrator company, you’ll get a ton of experience!
My son is looking to get into industrial automation,he has some university but dropped out,if he takes a certificate program in automation & robotics will he be able to get his foot in the door somewhere?
This was my path which is probably the best. He can get in the door and get his feet wet. Most companies will send him to training and also have tuition reimbursment in case he finds a particular part of engineering he really likes.
Indians who are watching this video, i like to share you one thing. In India there the salary is not good as a fresher. So along with PLC programming or Automation Engineer be ready to thorough with Control system paper also improve Manager or Administrative skills by knowing more about Industrial oriented training will help you to improve your salary package in upcoming years. Otherwise after gaining experience go some of the countries, he mentioned above for better job opportunities.
I have done my computer science Engineering..but iam interested in automation Engineering …what can i do ..which pg course I have to choose 🙂 Please reply me ..whether I choose plc programmer or automation Engineering
Sir I got offer letter from supnico automation company it is subsidiary 100% company of SUPCON chinna.please telle it is good career path in industrial automation
is a master's in automation engineering worth it? i feel like it's going to be a waste of time and effort since most automation engineers learn from work and don't need a master's anyway and i could have a better master's that has more value
hey man that was amazing ...i've finished institute of electrical dept with top1 grade by the way i'm in 4th stage of college .. I choose automation engineer as future career as well as you my name is EHSAN , i'm youtuber i shear my knowledge in my channel . is that date or what ..!!
Hello sir I have some queries I recently completed my b.tech in electrical engineering...so after that I got a job in plc automation department... I want to go to abroad in the field of plc So can you please help me .. Should I go for MSC in plc automation in college in abroad or is there any other thing?
Working on which software is the best Like working on delta or Siemens or omron Because diff countries or companies use diff software for PLCs so which is the most desirable
