Hitched back to London after seeing them live at Duxford Imperial War Museum (supported by The Fall). Slept on a bench at Paddington station and got the first train back to Cardiff. Young and daft. So, so glad I did it.
I clearly remember watching this live on the tube. Utterly brilliant and one of my favourite bass line ever and I’m a Simple Minds and Derek Forbes fan.😊
Incredible perfomance. Mike Scott is a truly underrated artist imo. He's an incredible songwriter. Tracks like Fishermans Blues, And A Bang on the ear, This Man is in Love, and my favourite Old England is Dying. He's also done some great covers like Dylan's Girl From The North Country and Nobody 'Cept You, and Van Morrison's classic Sweet Thing.
Somehow and some reason I always discover the best music late in my life, But I'm glad I found this tight band and Richard. Ashcroft is a hell of a performer
Sad to think how good the subsequent album could have been without all that shit/polished production. Was so excited when I heard these 2 songs, and so underwhelmed with the lp. Still love them.
Think these performances pre-date the studio versions. Definitely remember seeing (and recording) this at the time and being blown away. The album tracks were slightly disappointing after this! They also did a cover of Velvet's Run Run Run at the end which was fab. :)
So underrated. Saw them live at the Odeon in Birmingham. Would have been around 1984/85. Absolutely brilliant live and I was lucky enough to be right at the front squashed up against the stage!!
It's really mysterious how they did not become one of the most famous rock bands in the world. For decades, I've known only a few people who are aware of them. This album is one of the very best rock records ever made.
