This is my favorite Elton John song even though the way that Geronimo died is not accurate in the song. The Death of Geronimo - Apache Warrior and Chief. On 17 February 1909, the famous Apache warrior and chief, Geronimo, died of pneumonia (he had lain out in the cold all the previous night, following a fall from a horse) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, aged 79.
There was a video with this recorded outside Denton TX -- wou;ld love to find it as I was in it! Red carpet debut at the theater in Dallas; I even remember what I was wearing for the preview -- purple miniskirt and gold fringe shirt/ The after party was pretty wild.Of course this was the 70s ad everything rpretty wild in those days. . .
There are those that claim that Geronimo died February the 17th 1909 but the truth of the matter was that he was killed on February 21st 1909 by the US military.
History tells us that it was not just the "white man" - it has been the world over since the beginning of time - there have been leaders of all nations & of all races that have brought murder & mayhem to the people they have conquered & in many cases much worst than America - since the beginning of time there has always been wars - there has always been one group killing another & there has always be slavery - the human race for all of its intelligence is a very sad race to kill as we do.

I love this song...so haunting! But it always makes me cry. The Red Indians were persecuted so bad same as many other people over the years. So damn sad.
