If ONLY we had a couple like Mcnaught and Evans now! They were sensational for us during that purple patch of ours. We’d definitely be Prem contenders if we did (have a pairing like them). I was blessed to have chatted to Gary Shaw a couple of months ago and he confirmed that the Barcelona players were angry because Withy had bladdered one of their defenders with his elbow and got away with it! It would seem their response was to kick anything in claret and blue!
Gary Shaw was such a brilliant goalscorer. Amazed her scored so few in his career. But he was fucking lethal when he was in that part of the field. He should have played for England; and Morley, Cowans, Shaw and Mortimer should definitely have gone to Spain in 1982. That was a dumb omission by Greenwood. Four of the best players in that era excluded from the WC squad. Ridiculous.
Hi, This is Steve Withe, Peter's son I was wondering if you could contact me please? Im trying to get some videos of Villa fans as we are doing a documentary on him and needed some footage.
I was there. Tremendous day. Great atmosphere. Intense rivalry between the players and fans. Nobody rolling around on the ground trying to get the opposition booked. Nobody screaming in the referees face. No cheating. No diving. No shyt housery. Great days.
Paul, Thanks very much indeed for providing this UEFA Cup second-leg between Inter and Villa from the San Siro. Knife-edge game for both sides as Villa try to defend their two-goal lead inside the lions' den of Inter's home. Great credit to you for providing full coverage.
Stuart pearce was practically playing at home, as when younger he played for stonebridge, just over a mile from wembley stadium Pearce must of felt weird he then later got to play at wembley so many times, and it must of felt like playing at home for him He worked for brent council, which was the borough that wembley stadium is in, totally ruined today brent, over run by non white crime. My first ever football game i went to see as a kid, was our dad was a forest fan and in early 80s he brought us to loftus road to see qpr play nottingham forest his fav team.
I ended up being a Liverpool fan but in the aftermath of being baptized into football from Italia 90, this was captivating. When Villa lost the 2nd leg it was heartbreaking.
Rather a crucial First Division relegation "four-pointer". But the 1-1 draw did little to help either club, for both Spurs and Sunderland were relegated at the end of the 1976-77 campaign, Spurs after a near thirty-year spell in Division One, and Sunderland after just one season back in the top flight.
A truly vital top-of-the-table match at the time. Liverpool on top, Ipswich one point behind in 3rd spot. Anfield was full to the rafters. I was happy to be there.
