As the world's biggest fan of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (My 2nd favorite Smiths song behind I Know Its Over) I am offended and appalled at this ranking
my top picks are mardy bum, and she's thunderstorms (particularly the live performance form 2011). I love these and feel like mardy bum isn't given the love it deserves nowadays
This book feels like it was writen by 16 yo, mentaly underdevoloped, high school graduate. It is insanly stupid: Andy Weir simply have no clue how the real world works. If the crisis like he described in this book really happen to Earth, it certainly wouldn't be solved the way he proposed in book. But for me worst part of book is his prose. It sucks.
Yeah PHM was a rough read for me despite enjoying the main story. I hated the awful flashbacks, they're all the same with people sitting in rooms info dumping. Then there were down right awful flashbacks that were clearly added to increase wordcount for the book. I think Andy should have kept the flashbacks to a minimum and put the rest of the flashbacks into a prequal book with a more fleshed out and interesting world building. Also yes Ryland was written pretty poorly, to the point it was painful. From his child like monologue all the way down to his insufferable selfish attitude.
Thank you! I hated the movie "The Martian, and now I think I know why. I was reading this book for a book club and hate it. The Main Character/Author is so proud of himself. It is the epitome of "modern story telling" in TV and movies. Super cringe
Thank you for this. I thought i was the only one. i really did try. half way thru the book i had so much unpleasant things to say about this book(prose, having to explain his decisions like talking to a child-“oh i dont have time to grieve right now thats why im not crying because there are important things to be done”. it was the first book where i had strong disgust(this is not me) and told my wife im going to ask amazon for a refund. that bad. i was wondering why the majority loved this book. i searched in youtube project hail mary sucks and now here i am. also, i started reading 2001 a space oddysey because of my bad experience with weir. i felt raw emotions in the first chapter with man apes than half of project hail mary and his 2 dead friends. as a matter of fact i didnt buy any emotion in that book. i could go on and on but ill just be preaching to the choir. thank you for this video. weird to say but it means a lot. i guess a validation of my feelings on that book(like u said in the minority)
When he was like "dont start a riot....... van" i was fr thinking the same thing. I love how he kept making little puns throughout the video it made me laugh. Also you real for referencing teddy picker so much. We need nore videos like this one where they go into detail with their opinions.
A few days back I saw Buster Keaton's early work on RU-vid (1900's silent movies) and you can just tell he saw things differently... it seemed like there was another gear to his consciousness Johnny Marr is to music what Buster Keaton was to early cinema!
All of his books suck. I literally just searched Andy Weir sucks, why? Because he does. I completely agree with you. Hate his work. Read three of them and this one's the worst.
sorry for my English: - Author just gave up on second part of HM, just fast forwarding to "then we flew to alien planet...". - You can see that he wrote that novel to be made into movie. - All what was good in his writing in Martian was cranked to 11, and not in good way. - Too many shortcuts, to much stuff, and yet too much stuff missing, unbalanced draft/alpha version. - Suspension of disbelief...not a hard SF novel anymore, plus you can feel that he struggled to finish... Martian was almost 1:1 transplanted into movie, here they have to change lot, or they will have stinker, novelty/gimmick movie.
I'm a firm believer in "it just felt cringy" being a valid criticism, but I do think it was creative as far as hard science fiction goes. The alien anatomy, the space travel, the solution they came up with. Sure, the characters were as flat as can be, but that's not what I read it for
Good point. Although I wanted to know how the book ended, I couldn't for the love of the life couldn't make it past Chapter 13. The prose really sucked the life out of the book imo
17:56 He Made a lot of songs for the movie Submarine. Piledriver Waltz and Stuck on The Puzzle being the most notable ones. Edit: And now I have seen the reference to Submarine in your video lol
