You're welcome TJ! I agree- the constant chatter ruins it. On one of my older train videos I was seated near a loud mouth who was saying the most idiotic things for most of the trip. So I had to cut out all the audio and fill it in with music, rather than have no audio at all. But viewers hated the music too- it had to be copyright/ royalty free music which is not the best quality. But anyway- I hope you're able to do this incredible trip someday. Hi Chris- none of these meals were very good- they were frozen microwave meals. During the pandemic they had no kitchen staff to serve their regular meals. I guess my favorite one was the spicy shrimp over rice. The first night on the train was hard to sleep, I had to get used to it. But then I was able to sleep about 6 hours uninterrupted. Im thinking of travelling this summer 26 Jun 2024 via Economy. Is it ok to do that ? What are my washroom and shower options ? And sleeping options? And i heard that I can buy meals. Is my luggage always accessible? Please guide bro
@PhotoBug28
@PhotoBug28 4 месяца назад
Hello! The cheapest option is a regular coach coach class seat- which does not have access to showers or included meals. I would recommend a sleeper berth- which is basically a bunk bed on the top or bottom and includes your meals as well as showers. And there are the regular cabins which are pretty expensive. Prices vary depending on the time of year so I would check the Via Rail website. If you have your baggage checked into the luggage car you will not be able to access your luggage during the trip- so keep all the essential items with you in a smaller bag. Good luck with everything!

Via rail boasts of offering discounts to senior passengers and disabled passengers. I tried to book tickets for my wife who has disability in walking. She walks with a cane, nevertheless she falls down. I am her supporter in walking and if she needs to go upstairs she holds my arm. When I booked a ticket for my wife on via rail train #1 and then a ticket for myself as an assistant; website completely ignored. I called service centre no answer.
@PhotoBug28
@PhotoBug28 5 месяцев назад
I'm really sorry to hear that Andy. That's terrible customer service. I know that it's difficult to get a hold of a live person on the phone. But they really need to address the issue you had on the website with booking tickets as an assistant for your wife. Perhaps when you check in at the station you can talk to someone who can make the necessary changes. Despite this problem I hope that you and your wife will manage to have a good trip on Via Rail.

SHARON SHNEYER, Philadelphia PA. Thank you for the wonderful video, which while I haven't watched yet, I did save it to email to watch at another time. The days of me traveling anywhere are not possible, but I can remember my late parents taking me across the US by train where we stopped and visited national parks and other places (we also did some flying). Later when my parents took me with them to Europe for a month we had an EuroRail Pass. As an adult, (and one-time rail and transit activist), I was able to do some traveling by myself. My most memorable experience (excluding the fact that I had to go from Philadelphia to New York City first), was taking the train to Toronto (my favorite city), and then taking the Ontario Northland Railway, which I don't know if it exists anymore), to Cochrane, Ontario, an overnight ride and I had a single roomate, where I stayed for a few days, and then took the Polar Bear Express from Cochrane to Mosinee. It was 2 1/2 hours up each way, and you had 5 hours there and you could walk around (I don't remember if there was a tour or not, but I wrote everything down on the trip including what I ate). There is a hotel there. It is where the James Bay starts. I then spent about a week in Toronto, a few days in Ottawa, and a week in Montreal (doing this all by train of course). I'm still in awe of Cochrane. I always tell people who are younger, that if you are going to do any traveling, do it while you are young, because you never know what will happen when you get older. Even expensive places like New York City, you can figure out how to do things cheaply. In Washington DC, the museum's are free. I look forward to watching your video at a more practical time.
@PhotoBug28
@PhotoBug28 5 месяцев назад
Thank you so much Sharon for sharing those wonderful memories of your train travels! You're lucky to have been able to have done all that from a young age. Many people I know have never traveled at all or have even been outside of their state. I also love Toronto and Montreal. You're right that it's easy to explore these regions on your own and do it on a budget. It's a common regret that retirees have that they wish they had done more traveling when they were young. I started when I was 26, I'm 43 now and I'm hoping to stay active and healthy so I can keep traveling until I'm 80- we'll see haha. I hope you'll enjoy watching this video when you get a chance. I appreciate you sharing your comments. I hope all is well in Philadelphia!

Two observations. It seems to me going from Vancouver to Edmunton and back would the most scenic route. Secondly, the communities that have train stops are missing the boat by not offering food trucks or pop up markets at stops away from town centers.
@PhotoBug28

Hi Sean, thank you for the compliment! It was a pretty expensive trip for the sleeper berth- I think I paid around $1,600. The prices fluctuate but I haven't heard of any big sales where the fares are drastically reduced. Thank you for watching :)

This is just prior to the May " Two-Four " week-end, the first long weekend of spring when the ice is finally off the lakes. They're still a little chilly, but it's a rite of spring to jump in anyway. In Northern Ontario you can see the trees aren't in full foliage yet. I've driven the TransCanada both ways twice when I was in my twenties, the train looks much better.

Yes! Not a bad time of year to do this trip I think, although it would have been wonderful to see the foliage at its peak. It's hard to time it perfectly when you're booking a trip like this months in advance. I would also love to drive the TransCanada highway in both directions like you did. From the train I saw so many scenic areas that I would have liked to spend some time at and explore on foot. Thank you for watching and commenting!
