Commenting to say that this fix worked for me. I at one point tried learning to micro-solder so I have the heat gun and soldering station, flux and such. I followed your directions exactly as you stated. 650 degrees Fahrenheit, added flux around the chip, heated for 10-20 seconds until I saw subtle signs of smoke and let off. Left it for a few minutes to ensure it was cooled and sure enough the system is working again. I appreciate the video as It saves me (temporarily) from buying a new receiver for now. It was super easy to do. Thank you for making this video!
THANK YOU. someone gave me 4 motors+esc's from the walker x350 pro and I was planning on using them with a 4s pack. now I know not to. you just saved my motors and esc! question: how does the esc perform under load on a 4s?
i have a tx nr3008 that has had the hdmi board replaced in the past but recently has developed random crackling hissing and poping on the front left channel using any input, ive checked wires ect. ,i believe its a cap or something in the amp .any ideas? eventually i was going to swap the channel boards around and see if the issue moves.
Well....ich have the same reciver and used a hot air station for that task. But it took me at least 5 minutes to get the heat into the chip to really melt the solder. For resolder ich will take out the mainboard und use a heatplate. ;)
Thank you so much for this! I was about to throw out my TX-NR616 but thanks to you I was able to fix it quite easily. I added a small Raspberry Pi heatsink to it, so hopefully it lasts.
Hello, I just picked up a beautiful Onkyo TX-NR-616 the issue is it has no sound at all. Does this model have a DSP chip as well. If so would you know the location of the chip. I would like to try and reflow the solder using flux. I appreciate any advice you can offer me. Thank you. Ben
I just fixed my TX-NR616, so it's worth trying. The chip is located towards the back right. Just to the left of the right fan bracket arm. It's a square chip with no legs.
SUCCESS!!!! From another youtube video I heated up the CPU chip labeled DTS Dolby digital to only 185 degrees F. No luck. I searched for another video if there was something I could do differently. I happened onto this gentleman's video and applied heat from my lowest speed of my heat gun and using my laser temp thermometer. I got the chip up to 480 degrees F. I allowed it to cool down to the same temp of other chips on the HDMI board. I turned on the unit after plugging it back into the wall. Two clicks upon pressing the power/standby button, then waited another 4 to 5 seconds to hear another double click and low and behold the speaker position diagram or display which NEVER came on before appeared. This part of the display was not lit in the photograph used by the seller of this unit on Facebook marketplace.
Hi! I also have an Onkyo TX-NR414 amplifier. After switching on, there is no sound. My question would be, how long did you heat the chip? In addition to sound, there is no network and USB.
Thanks for the video. I have a tx-NR 717. It jas not worked for a looong time. It shows that it is working properly BUT no audio. I could have sent it back and repaired under warranty had I known. I just ordered a heat gun. We'll see what happens.
Spare your self the time. Don't waste it. This is the stupidest 20 minutes I've ever spent. None of what he tells you comes true, and needless to say, he did not fix the problem. This also has got to be the messiest shop I'd ever seen. I don't trust messy people with my gear to begin with, but this one goes beyond messy - straight into the stupidly messy domain. What a waste of time!
I have a problem with a Marantz sr5005av its sound like you know your stuff so I'm hoping you can help me the unit works an does not have any errors but I can not get any sound out of receiver, I have done factory reset but still no sound. I have tried head phones no sound from them. I don't see any burned place on boards. So I was just wondering what your thoughts would be? I do have schematic for this unit have you had any problems like this with a receiver? Just trying to find someone I can get some idea from. Scene onkyo the same company do you think it could be the same problem. I guess I will check some relays, caps, voltage regs.
Is the unit going into protection mode? If not, it still can have an open output transistor that may not trigger the protection circuit. The correct thing to do is start removing the output transistors and checking them for shorts and open until you find the one or multiple bad ones.
Oh an no it is not going in to protection mode thats why I'm trying to just bounce some ideas off someone else. The unit works an does everything it should but just no sound out. So I will use your info an see what happens Thanks again
Why not put the heat sink on as soon as it cools down, if the speaker matrix is on and you're getting sound? Why wait? What if the chip overheats again before you put the heat sink on? I saw on another video someone using an infrared thermometer to measure temp, since they didn't have a temp controlled heat gun.
A gentleman said he was able to repair his unit by changing all the diodes on the drive board, the problem with reflowing is that the procedure deteriorates the chip, if it is overheating it is probably because it is short-circuited, the diodes on the drive board cope directly with the electric current distribution in the analog phase of the circuit, these signals must go directly to the DTS chip which causes the overheating and the soldering problem, for this reason if you do the reflow procedure it will not solve, it will be just a palliative, check the drive board.
An electronic services guy checked it out and said the chip did not work any more and so I think it was already moved out of place. But I wanted to try the reflow and did it with a coin on top, and it did heat well but I accidentally touched the coin and the chip moved out and now i can't get it back in place unfortunately.
Are all TI DSP Chip the same/compatible? I have an old(10 +Yrs) Onkyo HT-RC270. I checked Ebay and they are selling these chips but the numbers are not the same as mine. The description/number on mine is D830K138ZKB83 YF-04A2C3W GI
HI Shane! I have a strange problem with an ONKYO 686. I'm really desperate now, this happened just overnight, the amp is just 2 year old. It has this loud noise. Please could you check this out?? any clue will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N_unQM5Scis.html
That is digital noise. Try unplugging everything but power and the speaker wires. No inputs at all and see if the sound goes away. If it does, remove the cover and blow out any dust or particles inside, then test again.
@@ShaneCarles Yeah tried with all disconnected and using BT and headphones, you can hear the music but on top is that noise. Will try to check again for dust. Thanks a lot Shane!
@@Ferpsf - Also, there are buttons you hold down when turning on to do a full reset . You could try that. HERE: How to Factory Reset Onkyo TX NR686 7.2 4K - Press and hold CBL/SAT button, then press and hold the On/Off button till you see "clear" on the display and the receiver will be factory reset.
@@Ferpsf - How old is that model? You might just have this issue here. With the cover off, take a hair dryer and heat over the DTS chip shown in my video here. It will look a little different but it should be in the same place. You can catch me on Facebook for photos if you want to take one of the HDMI board and show me.
My DTS chip has a sticker on it saying "new", so maybe it's been replaced before or is a new generation of chip? In any event, this trick worked for me and got my HT-R990 back up and running momentarily, just ordered some flux so I can see if I can make it a more permanent fix
Hello, Good video. I have a pioneer vsx-1021-k, I was having UE22 error with not sound, couldn’t update firmware! I fallowed your instructions, first time used a hairdryer and UE22 error went away, however, still not sound. Buy flux and a heat gun and tried again. No error, I can hear clicking every-time I change input but not sound coming out. Everything looks working properly. HDMI inputs and output are working. Do you think I have to replace the dts chip? Or is maybe something in the other board for sound? Thanks again! From The Dominican Republic!!! Nice place for vacation with all inclusive hotels!!
Excellent video and tutorial. I have a Denon AVR with similar no-audio issues, from either analog (tuner, RCA cables) or any digital sources. All other functions seem to work (OSD, display, etc. onboard diagnostics all seem fine except "AUDIO PACKET DOES NOT COME FROM SOURCE." So I assume it's a similar issue to the Onkyo. Is a DAC or DSP still part of the signal flow even with analog sources? I am preparing to attempt a reflow but I'm not sure which chip is the most likely culprit. Advice on a good way to diagnose? Turn it on and see what gets hottest and start there? From what I can figure from the service flowcharts, it's either the DAC, the DSP, the input selector chip, or the volume control chip. is the Onkyo DTS chip their DSP, or their DAC? Thanks for any advice!
Good evening and congratulations for the video. I take this opportunity to ask you a question. I have an onkyo sv454 amplifier that has a problem. In FM radio the speakers sound good while if I put on video1,2,3 or CD and try to reproduce the audio coming from the various sources the left channel does not play, only the right works. If I put it on the radio it works perfectly. What should I check once opened? thanks and to the next video. ps: If I leave it unplugged for a few days and then mention it, both speakers work for a few minutes in every situation. What can it be? Sorry my english but i'm italian. thank you
