Well done Sir !! May I suggest that there be a number of broadcasts designed for those of us who are not musicians but who are huge prog fans. I would suggest that you not talk down to that subset of viewers (obviously) but be informative in a conversational way while at all times being respectful of the knowledge level of your viewer. As an example, Pink Floyd's "Money" is in 7/4 and 4/4. A higher level discussion by you of the music behind that song we all hear on the radio might actually draw more subs. The groups you mention most often are not names which easily roll off the tongues of casual prog fans, say, those like me who are into RUSH, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Frank Zappa, Tool, etc. Thanks. ................ Just realized I'm writing this post while wearing my 2112 shirt. Keep it proggy !
Congratulations man! Very well deserved, you give so much insight into the world of prog and have personally helped me become more creative and be more expansive in my own music and I'd love to thank you for that. Here's to the next milestone!
Congrats man. Great channel. Great info on here. I really livr the solo analysis idea. I have 2 solos for an idea for you Pantera The Sleep Carcass. Death certificate
saw them live when they toured with trope and haken, got my pickguard signed by the singer and guitarist of Trope and Michael Romeo. best show of my life.
I am a 61-year-old baby boomer and a lifelong music fan, but I have never received proper music theory education. Recently, I have been learning to play guitar and other instruments by watching videos on RU-vid. I am now making videos where I play the chords of the songs I loved when I was younger but only listened to. Your channel is like an oasis in the desert for music fans like me. Please continue making great videos.
Great performance. A couple of years ago I was learning the solo for this song. It's quite demanding (all the techniques, fast picking and a few fast bends). One evening I overdid with my practice and woke up with a trigger finger and pain in my palm. It took a while to recover the pain but that finger is still bothering me, albeit it is better now and I can play. But I learned the hard way to feel my body better and try not to go over my body's limits.
Bad ass riffs man. Im in love with your guitar/bass arsenal. If anyone 'deserves' those instruments. It's you for sure. Im just saying too. If youre ever in the market for anymore instruments. You should totoally check out Rondo. (Agiles). Itd be cool to see someone like you rock one of their instruments. Theyre super well built for the price range.
This song, and the band are just so in outer space from most everything else. It baffles the mind. Songs are cohesive yet utterly complicated. Exactly what prog should be.
I see Symphony X, I click. Great job. SX are one of the few bands that can have so many similar sounding riffs but have them all be so.imoactful. In the dragons den is always a savage highlight for me. Twilight is a bit underrated in general imo.
I'm really having trouble playing the G#m11 chord. I can't get that F# note on the D string to ring clearly. its always muted. by my middle finger holding down the D# note on the A string.
@@TheProgSchool Alex is one of my favorite players all time. I'm 57. I refuse to give up and thanks for the tips! Probably one of those things like when your first learning everything is impossible 😂. Keep the Rush stuff coming. I learned Presentation off 2112 by ear and such cool chords. Rush was the best. Got to see Signals Tour and I was mesmerized and blown away.
Love these solos, and you nailed them as usual. Have you ever covered anything by Circus Maximus? Mats Haugen is one of the all time great prog guitarists imo.
