Hi bookish friends! I am Berna from Türkiye. I have always loved reading since I was a tiny little girl. Even before I started school, I used to wake up early and look at/read my older brother's comic books.
I read a wide variety of books but my five favorite genres are historical fiction, romance, thriller and mystery/crime fiction.
I hope you enjoy my channel where I talk about books and everything else related to books. In this channel, you will find videos of monthly wrap-ups and tbrs, book-tags, book to movie/tv series adaptations and turkish book recommendations.
I want to meet new bookish friends all around the world. I would love to get book recommendations. Feel free to contact me!!

Wow, I did not even know this film was an adaptation at all. I watched it ages ago when I was working through some missed titles in genres I love (supernatural horror is a big yes for me for film, not so much for books though!). Donald Sutherland was amazing in it, I remember that. And I liked Julie Christie as well. I like that you pointed out that there was an Italian cast, I feel like that added a lot to it...but also just makes sense! Always love hearing your thoughts, this was a great choice to include for Shorty September!
Wow, 8 books read in August - and a third were Big Books! You read about a wide variety of places, too. Well done on Big Book Summer - so glad you enjoyed participating!
@@SueJacksonDE to be fair I read the third of Voyager in August but still it was very close to 400 pages 😉 I will read more big books and participate in the next rounds because with the exception of Unsheltered, the big books were all big succes for me 😎
Hi Berna, have you read The Saint of Incipient Insanities? I wonder if the English translation is out of print - it is so difficult to find! 😅 I read The Architect's Apprentice a few years and I thought it felt so Dickensian - it reminded me of Oliver Twist. I thought the descriptions of the buildings and architecture quite vivid and beautiful. I'm glad you included your thoughts as an architect too. I'm looking forward to reading Elif Shafak's latest book!
I’ve noticed that I often feel that I’m reading less if I haven’t really connected to the books I’ve read in the last month or if I read too many shorter or lighter books in a row. My favorite books are those I can really sink my teeth into or a series so I get lots of time with the same characters. Most of the time - I am reading about the same amount though, it just doesn’t seem like it. 😂
It was exactly the same for me for August, even my rating average was very high but because I did not enjoy the big book I read, I felt like I read less 🤣
I love the way you analyse things and check the data. I am dipping into readathons more gently this year too to avoid an unnecessary sense of urgency or failure.
Always love your book discussion videos, and it's always helpful to look at the data, what happened during that time that could have impacted things and also perspectives that have changed. I often find sometimes where there is a unexpected big shift in volume it can be due to external circumstances, and often a more gradual change due to shift in perspective and actively trying to change things. And sometimes we just need those cozy feels when things are a bit rocky. Also interesting to hear about the shift in participation in readathons, I do think it's good to match them to our own goals instead of the chaos or stress that can ensue by trying to do everything. That can be fun every once in a while, but not all the time! As always, love your videos and hearing your perspective :)
Thanks Sharon, I like reading your comments a lot. It makes me think about other aspects too. Knowing myself, I thought it would better to adapt my goals to my new reading process 😉
I am glad you have had that realisation regarding your reading goals. I always enjoy hearing people's reading evolutions. My reading has really dropped off the past few months. I have been making a concerted effort to be ok about not reading. For example, I have not picked up or listened to any books since Wednesday and I am becoming much more accepting of the fact it is ok to not read!
Hi Berna, I never count book pages and I never counted books until I became a creator. I know I read a lot of books before I started my channel. I wouldn’t worry about how much you’re reading but how much you’re enjoying your reading. I think joining too many events on book tube can be stressful. I have cut down on the readathons I take part in. wishing you a happy reading month and joy and health in general. Aloha friend.
Thank you for tagging me! I loved Life after Life and Giovanni's Room. I did watch some of the Olympics; I really liked "Pommel Horse Guy" Steve Nedoroscik. Great job with the tag!
Hello Berna, congratulations on five years as a book tube creator. I also started in August so this is my fourth anniversary. I loved remains of the day too. I read it as a buddy read (and) the book is just perfection. Il hope the coming year will be joyous for you in every way, including reading of course. Aloha my friend.
Remains of the Day is one of my favourite books of all time. I haven't read Kindred yet but it's on my current TBR so I'm really looking forward to it after your review. I like the way that you rate your books out of ten, I think that gives a more accurate and fairer rating that the five stars that Goodreads allows.
I am very familiar with this grading because it was the system we used in high school here. Remains of the Day is one of the best written books I read. I think you will like Kindred too Wendy 🤗
Happy BookTube Anniversary!!! I’m sure I’ve seen your Newbie tag before, but I had forgotten a lot. I love Mauve Binchy too. So happy that you started a channel. I really love your videos and buddy reading with you. 💕
Choosing five must have been excruciating. What a great mixture though. And of course sharing a book adds to the experience so much. The combination of a good book and a good buddyread is the dream. I was very happy to see Kemal and Memed here.
I love Remains of the Day! Such a beautifully written novel! The film is also excellent. Have you seen it? Very exciting to see this as your top pick! 💛🎉
Congratulations on reaching five enthusiastic years on BookTube. Love that your favourite books are mostly buddy reads and the enjoyment of the buddy reads experience was a recurring theme! Quite a range of book styles there as well.
My worst books since starting booktube have been Flowers in the Attic (though I enjoyed discussing it with Alice) and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man!
It is very possible the book that I last read with Alice will be this year’s list 😔 but like you said we made that buddy reading experience a good one by our rants 🙂 I remember your thoughts about the Flowers in the Attic and that was the day I took out from TBR 😉
Enjoying your celebration videos Berna. I am glad we connected on here, grateful for your friendship and I am very happy to be included in your list! I am nearly at my 4th anniversary on Booktube - it has flown by! So many booktubers make me laugh but mainly because we have so much fun together!
Congratulations Berna, I started my channel exactly 4 years ago on my birthday August 24. How wonderful we got to meet each other here when were so far away from each other. Aloha friend.
Berna, I think it’s so important to reflect and look back on our Booktube experiences. I try to remind myself what were my expectations when I started my channel? Have they changed and, if so, why? I’d rather have more conversation in the comments section so I can get to hear other thoughts and get to know people. I love this series! 💛
Thank you Kelly. Like my channel name, I see these interactions as adventures because I feel like I have changed quite a lot in many ways, especially regarding bookish social community 📖
Hi Berna, love this. You are so right, no one should be shamed for what they read or how they read. I did giggle at your attempt at click bait titles, good job you don’t do them. Take care x
Hi Berna! I agree that life is too short to read books you are not enjoying. Your video title was actually enough bait for me to click and watch. Happy booktube birthday!
