Trains, mostly. Videos are typically on Mondays, streams on Fridays and Sundays on Twitch: www.twitch.tv/data_ve
This is not a strict schedule, nor is it all I do on the channel; I sometimes post wildly different stuff whenever I feel like it, especially when it comes to shorts and streams.

If there's recent content you enjoy, please do like and/or comment on the respective video - this tells me I'm doing something right, and I'll consider doing those kinds of videos more frequently. It helps boost my confidence on posting these things.

Sorry JS&B and PA fans, I just don't have the motivation to play those anymore, as speedhacking has gotten bland and One-Life Reviews are REALLY hard to make. Maybe one day I'll return, but don't count on it. Life just moves on sometimes, yknow?

Y'know I just realized something. "The dangers of sharing egg." Coming right after "How to lose a girlfriend." Out of context could easily be interpreted in a *very* different way.

Very nice layout and what sound decoders are you using?
@Storage_Unit
@Storage_Unit 3 дня назад
We use mostly Stock decoders! Which for most Bachmann On30 engines is limited versions of Soundtraxx Tsunami, with like three whistle options available. We have a little bit of Econami, Wowsound, and even some QSI, but the engine in this video is a Stock Tsunami decoder.

Lovely video, glad to see you back. One note, make sure the lighting is brighter if you’re going to film in that area again.

I noticed the lighting issue too while editing! Absolutely agree, gonna fix it soon(tm). Just gotta clean up some lightbulb off the floor first, thanks to some slippy hands...

Can you 3D print stuff? That might help with the scrap 2-4-4-2...

No printer or 3D modelling skills, sadly... Though if I had one I'd probably focus on making custom freight car kits, honestly.

I have a Proto heavy 2-10-2 with a broken driver just like yours. They don't have the parts and multiple sources could not fix it. She was an awesome puller to so it is a shame

Wow, did not expect those both to work on 15" radius. In general most of the available info about On30 minimum curves seems to be wrong, I know Bachmann say their 4-6-0 needs 22" but mine runs on 18" without any trouble.
@Storage_Unit
@Storage_Unit 8 дней назад
Yeah, Bachmann's On30 minimum radius recommendations are usually 3-6 inches bigger than what the engine can actually handle. The 4-6-0, 2-8-0 and Forney all call for 22" radius according to Bachmann, but all can do 18" with ease, and some can even do 15" under the right circumstances (even if they look a little strange doing so)

The more you figure it out, the more interesting and disgusting it gets. Like Steam engines have an ash door beneath their firebox that allowed unburnt coal and ash to be clean out, so it’s basically their anal. :)

In case anyone was wondering, the lubricant quote was from "Evolution" (2001), starring David Duchovny not quite escaping the X-files typecasting, and Orlando Jones as the unfortunate speaker of the line.

Do you have mods on in this game? I swear I dont remember class lamps haha
@Storage_Unit
@Storage_Unit Месяц назад
Nope, no mods! Class Lights have been around for a pretty long time, but the old ones kinda suck, and they were only on a select few locomotives. (I think like two still have them; the Wood Cooke 2-6-0 and the Eureka?) A lot of the newer engines have 'em nowadays.
@peterforden5917
@peterforden5917 Месяц назад
As most trench loco's worked suicidally close to the ww1 front line and erman troops could bot and hear and smell the steam loco' and if they had lamps SEE the locos and their trains which would ALWAYS result in an artilliery barrage , so bells and lamps ere big no no's :)
@peterforden5917
@peterforden5917 Месяц назад
There are quite a few period films of trench railways on utube both allied and German :) As well as at least one of happy German squaddies who had just (about an hour before!) taken an allied supply dump with lot and lots of food and cigarettes which they hadn't seen for a good long time, hence the exstatic looks on their faces..not too worry as a lot bof it was recaptured within the week
@astridvallati4762
@astridvallati4762 Месяц назад
The one problem with the Backmann Trench loco is the Gauge; WWI Trench locos were 600mm (2 ft approx) NOT 2'6" ( 762mm). For a proper WWI representation, a regauging to 12.7mm ( 1/2")is required in 1/48 scale. Is this possible with the Bachman existing chassis, or is a new scratch built Chassis required???. Many of these locos were sent to Colonial Sugar and mining company lines in either 2ft (610mm) gauge Or 600mm. Those repatriated to USA gauge unknown? DocAV.

I was just about to start writing, "How much of a radius does that loco need?" And you said nine inches. Nine inches!? I'm planning an ON30 layout on a 3 foot wide base. I've gotta have one of these!
@Storage_Unit
@Storage_Unit Месяц назад
Yeah! Nine inches! It's kinda insane. Apparently you can get them down to 8.5" radius if you swap out the pilot truck, as apparently once the curves get too sharp the wheels actually clip into the pistons. You can see our test on 9" radius here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fXZuaWjstRw.htmlsi=mkjwmYnJX8YWKqRE&t=173
@PoochAndBoo
@PoochAndBoo Месяц назад
@@Storage_Unit Don't need 8.5, but thanks for that. My layout design will be on a 3 foot wide base, so 12 to 15 inches will do it. Id rather not go less than 12. Thanks a lot. I've already gone over to Bachmanns site to price them. The price for one of these is reasonable. Will be doing this.
@Storage_Unit
@Storage_Unit Месяц назад
@PoochAndBoo No problem! 12 inches is a great minimum radius for smaller layouts; basically all Bachmann rolling stock can handle that, but nothing sharper. Their 36' passenger cars do look a little silly on such sharp corners, but they're perfectly functional! I don't remember if I mentioned this in this video - I probably did, but it's worth mentioning just to be on the safe side - but Bachmann's own prices are... a bit extortionate at times. Trainworld has them for $150 USD (with sound, of course), while Bachmann's own website has them listed for $470. www.trainworld.com/bachmann-29502-usa-5091-2-6-2t-baldwin-class-10-trench-loco-w-dcc-sound-bachmann-29502.html ...man, that's such a good price that I may need to find an excuse to make another Snickerdoodle...
@PoochAndBoo
@PoochAndBoo Месяц назад
@@Storage_Unit Yeah, thats actually the price I sasw, so it must not have been the Bachmann site. I went several places to look for it. Trainworld maybe.

Despite your intentions of this layout being a common carrier, the simple spur-filled loop of track is something I see coming from a tourist railroad or museum, and the passenger trains add to that feel...
@Storage_Unit

...yknow, this may wind up in my pile of "ideas I'd love to do but don't have the time for yet", especially since Snickerdoodle still needs a home and this would be the perfect microlayout...

"Probably some that were built explicitly for preservation." Yes, there are. Over here at the Sumpter Valley we built two, and boy do they have a story. They started out as boxcars, but were converted into container flats later on. Yes, intermodal flats on the narrow gauge. When the SVRy got them from the White Pass & Yukon, they were first converted into excursion gondolas. Some time in the past two years, they were given roofs but left as open air. Quite a saga for two originally unassuming boxcars.
