A class human being. Just one of the nicest blokes. Stayed true to Worcestershire for his whole career. Almost everyone in the county idolised him. 24 years with one club. about 35,000 FC runs and over 100 centuries. I doubt Worcestershire or any other club will find a player with that longevity and performance again. I sold him some wardrobe poles once when I was a student working in Do-It-All (he is only 18 months older than me - he had achieved a lot more than me in 1988 :) ) When he tears up at about 3:25 - it breaks my heart.
I remember a gentleman at Besford he also had part of his finger missing he died there and I think he is buried next to the church loved croome when I was a boy it will always be in my ❤❤❤
What a wonderful trivia quiz question - Who is the only player to buy a greenhouse while taking a corner? I doubt any other player can claim to have done that!
RIP David. Sadly it was that season, and the take over issues that caused the decline of the proceeding 13 years. You will be always regarded as a true blue, you were always open to chat to fans, you showed my son such encouragement with a photography project... there were good years of rebuilding the club and stadium.... The board had made mistakes. ..sadly you sold to a bunch of crooks. KRO .. you were a true gent ... .
Roger failed to mention the 20 years he spent working for the church of scientology of Birmingham before his writing career took off. I wonder why? Lol
I've always said that we should have played with both Laurie and Willie as dual wingers; both could outrun the wind and had that special trick to mug full backs. Willie was mugged in Argentina, especially considering that the Germans were blood doping at the time. I miss those days at the Hawthorns.
Well it was the botched take over where things began to unravel with Birmingham in 07/08. It was quite shocking that GSB didn't think that Steve Bruce was good enough to keep Birmingham when he was good enough to keep Wigan up I mean Bruce did an amazing job to keep them up that year he said that keeping Wigan up was at the time his biggest achievement of his managerial career. It all began with Carsen Yeung's botched takeover when it fell through Bruce wanted assurances they couldn't give him the assurances arguments began and in the end Bruce walked out. As for on the pitch Birmingham's demise could be pinpointed to 3 games the first was at home against Derby only 1-1 against the worst PL side in history they absolutely dominated that game but only scored 1 goal via Larsson and conceded a stupid equaliser ironically scored by a player named Villa. Match number 2 was at home against Liverpool to be more precise a second string Liverpool side as Rafa Benitez had rested all his big hitters Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt, Carragher, Alonso and Mascherano were either unused subs and not in matchday squad at all with Chelsea in the Champions League either side of this match. They were 2-0 up and would've been climbing out of the drop zone but they let it slip mainly thanks to Jermaine Pennant and drew 2-2 which left them rooted to the drop zone. Finally match 3 away at Fulham 1 week later which was the BIG BIG one and Birmingham didn't turn up they were so poor and Fulham ran out deserved winners. By the time they beat Blackburn on the final day it was too late.
My fav batsmen………maligned but a class cricketer. Poorly handled by the ECB! Could of still played on in the early 2000’s in the one day side. Was back then the best ODI batsman and dispensed by selectors prematurely.
