What rubbish. John Farnham as Jesus...🤣 Gimme a break. Camp amateur hour. 1972 still the gold standard. Trevor White & Jon English infinitely better....
Honestly, one of my favourite things about this production is that Farnham never sings the famous high note that too many productions view as a compulsory requirement when casting the role. There’s a RU-vid video compilation of various different singers hitting that G5 in Gethsemane that asks “who sang it best”, and most of them approach it as a gymnastic feat they must pull off in order to be considered worthy of the role, rather than as an organic extension of the emotional state of the character. You can feel the panic rising in them as they near that part of the song. By contrast, this production wasn’t afraid to modify the score to suit the performer’s strengths, and it’s better for it.
I remember being disappointed when i saw this in Adelaide at the time and listening to now i know why. Look, it's not bad, but I just can't get past the perfection of the whole cast of the original movie production. The album was nothing on the movie either.
He was double booked. He was doing another show, the one he did of John Lennon, the Glass Onion he wasn't available for this stage production. He was available for the album recording
@@martinmayhew145 Oh, I see. Because I’ve seen photos online of JW in the role of Pilate. Guess there’s no live footage of him playing in the AUS 1992 stage production.
I saw this with my brand new wife in Sydney in 1992. I thought the set was incredibly clever - I always use that to remind myself that there are people who just "understand" these things - I just appreciate them. I liked that the music kept returning to refrains from earlier. Kate Cerebrano's voice was pure and clear and magnificent (although I slightly prefer Helen Reddy's version) At one stage the PA went out and John Farnham just kept singing and filled the auditorium. A truly magnificent voice. The first act was slow but building. Then Angry Anderson strode onto the stage and the whole world changed. Thank you for putting this online
This is a very different production of JCSS for me.I have been very lucky to see it 6 times, all different in their own way.As wonderful as they all are, I'm not feeling the stripped down stage, and holding the microphones.I agree with the previous comment, I feel like I'm watching a concert, not a Broadway production.Like I said, they all are awesome, I'll watch it again a couple of times to get used to it!
Fantastic musical with an awesome cast. Some of Australias biggest and most talented superstars, and all down to earth lovely people. Was lucky enough to see this show a couple of times and meet the enitre cast and get autographs.
I had the pleasure of seeing this production at the Australian Tennis Centre.. Jon Stevens was electrifying.. The entire cast was terrific, but Jon, oh and Angry really stood out.
Oh my goodness the Pharisees...the guy playing annas looking like a 14 year old boy...the glasses...ciaphas' voice....the glasses...the JACKETS? I can't handle this.
One of the best expierences I had playing Jesus in a play went 3 nights sold out and had the time of our lives!!! Was awesome!!! Great songs great story!!! Ps: remember when the leader of the production gave me this recording and said u do the John Farnham role, I listened chased him down the next day and said Jesus Christ all right how the hell u think I’m gonna hit those notes lol 😂 did a minor version octaves down of the High notes obviously lol 😂
I remember seeing Jon, Kate and Farnsey perform "Everything's Alright" on Hey Hey it's Saturday and released it as a single too when I was 12... fell in love with that song!! Never saw the production unfortunately until saw parts of Tim Minchin's Judas a few days ago from 2012 arena tour on YT and realised how good the rest of the music is! Was looking for the 2012 version and stumbled luckily on this throwback and as soon as I heard Everything's Alright just took me back! LUCKY ANYONE who saw this in person!
