There is a recording of this 7th Symphony played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Conductor Leonard Bernstein which is also amazing
It's an extraordinary symphony. Gorgeous, terrifying, tragic, hopeful, melodic with wonderful harmonies. Shostakovich knew how to build massive climaxes. Excellent performance. Concert hall seats should have trap doors and people who cough during pp sections or instrumental solos should disappear into the basement of shame.
Currentzis needs to leave his affects behind and stick to conducting actual music. His Beethoven sounds like Shostakovich and vice versa (though I appreciate a faster tempo here).
I love it. Schulhoff being Neo Classical, Neo Baroque. Still its his own very appealing language. He's so skilled ,talented, gifted, This is so great. The flute is singing melody after melody like a songbird. Almost has a Concerto Grosso feel. So enjoyable. If only he had lived longer...if only the Nazis didn't start WW 11....If only...
No, they aren’t. From the score’s appendix: “In Symphony No. 7, the bow stroke marks in the autograph generally do not match those in the published scores. All changes to the bowings were made by the editor in the proof-sheets of the first edition.“ (Collected Works Vol. 4, State Publishers “Muzyka”, Moscow 1981)
Beautifully done by the musicians of SWR Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Teodor Currentzis! Bravo Tutti! I especially love the sound of the percussion section!

An astoundingly clear recording and beautifully paced (excitingly quick in some parts of mvt 1). Audience should check their airways before leaving the house, in my opinion, and stay home if you're going to as much as breathe loudly.
I don't know if you take requests, but I would be very interested in seeing a score video of Currentzis' recording of Shostakovich 14 and would be curious to know if you could make such a video.
