I have wall hooks that I got off of Amazon. They are rated for 100 lbs total. Since the kayak is heavier I also have straps assisting so it takes some of the weight off the hooks.

When they say the capacity is say 450lbs, do you have to subtract the bare hull weight and the drive and seat? Thank you!
@markdoutdoors7965
@markdoutdoors7965 Год назад
Yes. Many don’t realize that but you do have to subtract the hull weight, drive and seat. That is one of the reasons why I purchased the 12.5 over the 10 for the extra weight capacity.

It will work but if that is what you mainly will use it in I would recommend something a little more Nimble. This is a wide kayak and long which makes it super stable but it is not as maneuverable as something a little smaller and narrower.

@markdoutdoors7965

I’m looking at the rs117, flint, and BITE for a throw and go setup. Does anyone in her have opinions?
@The66Leadfoot
@The66Leadfoot 11 месяцев назад
It depends on if you plan on running class 2 or higher rapids. The Bite has so much initial stability, it's actually hard to edge, which I actually appreciate for the headwaters I mainly fish. I have the Bite. I was really pleasantly surprised at how well it paddles against the current. Even with the seat trimmed all the way forward it is still very manoeuvrable, too. The rs117 and flint would do better for edging in heavy rapids.

I'm wondering if they switched from aluminum foot rails to plastic because if something was to break, you would want it to be the foot rail & not the boat? It would be much cheaper & easier to replace the foot rail than to repair the boat rail mount.

why did you get replace the Wilderness Recon? Just wondering.
@markdoutdoors7965
@markdoutdoors7965 Год назад
That is a great question. I honestly loved the Recon 120. My initial intent was to purchase the Recon 120 and then purchase the pedal drive and add it to the kayak at a later time. After owning the kayak I researched the drive and found it extremely difficult to find to purchase. Also after researching I found that the Native Propel drive seems to be a better overall over all drive with a great warranty. I loved the stability, the internal storage from the huge front hatch and how high the seat was. The high seat made it extremely easy to stand. As far as the Slayer Max I wanted the Propel drive, under the seat storage tray that slides out, side panels to drill into to run wires with out drilling into the kayak. I have not had it out on the water yet so once I do that I can give a more thorough comparison. Hope that answers your question.

Thank you. I’ll do a full review on the Slayer 12.5 soon. I have not yet had the opportunity to take the Slayer 12.5 out on the water yet but I know the weight capacity is 500lbs. I believe the Hobie is around 425. Personally for the price I would do the Slayer or Titan. It’s less money and it has instant reverse with the pedal drive.
@MrPrimetime474
@MrPrimetime474 Год назад
How come you got rid of the wilderness recon ?
@markdoutdoors7965
@markdoutdoors7965 Год назад
Well it wasn’t because there was any love lost. The Recon is my favorite kayak that I have owned. I love the in hull storage to transport my rods, the seat height, the stability, horizontal rod storage oh and the stability lol. When I purchased it I had intentions of getting the pedal drive for it because my end goal Is to eventually have a pedal drive kayak. After careful consideration and a lot of research I decided to part ways to get a Native. The main reason is Native’s 701 pedal drive. It is tried and proven, has the built in weed guard and an amazing warranty. I also like the drawer under the seat, built in forward facing rod holder and two rear rod holders, sacrificial plates so you don’t have to drill in the boat, and horizontal rod placements. I have not had it out on the water to do a direct comparison but I am excited to get it out. By the time I purchased the pedals for the Recon I would be paying more in total than just purchasing the Native Slayer and found one local from a great Kayak shop and got it.
