My name's Alec Steele and here you'll find weekly videos documenting the process of building some awesome projects here in the shop. As a blacksmith, most of the projects start as lumps of steel, or stacks of different alloys for making damascus, that I forge out into blades, sculpture, art or tools before taking the project to the machining equipment or into the grinding room for finishing. Each project teaches me a lot and stretches the bounds of my knowledge. I make a lot of mistakes but they serve as an excellent teacher. There's always something important for me to learn in the shop!
I want my work to be the spark that ignites the desire for you to get into your shop (or kitchen/basement/garage) and make something too! Whether it's stitching a leather wallet or forging a giant sword, you'll love the creative process.

I just started this, but I'm going to guess that it will be nearly impossible to replicate 100% faithfully by hand. Zippo has specialized presses and dies to optimize production, and that process is ideal for their production but unrealistic for single unit production. Prototypes are not fabricated using final production methods, and this is essentially building a prototype by hand.
Alec, you're hilarious, just weigh 5 and then weigh the other 5 and add the weights together! its not like you to give up so easily... and where was Jamie's 2 cents!
Won't tell you the name but I was working as a Civil Engineer at one of India's biggest steel plant and were constructing a concrete structure for a new electric arc furnace and this bucket full of molten steel used to fly over our heads. You need steel balls to work in those situations 😅. And the sound of that furnace every time it starts fu*king Hell😂😂
It will be better and safer to use a longer nut on the all thread that tensions the springs. The more thread the nut grips the less likely the spring pressure will strip the thread. Im assuming that the all thread you used is standard grade and not high tensile
Middlesbrough had alot more steel making heritage yet the lot has gone 91 blast furnaces at one point and now level ground so much for heritage! But hey lets see what new industries arrive on the site. Im a firm believer every country needs to be able to produce its own steel just in case.
Not sure if you’re a big golf guy but I think it would be a super cool idea to make a Damascus putter head you could inlay gold or whatever you’re a creative guy it would look awesome
I don't know anything about metallurgy, but I've heard titanium can be a drama queen to forge and machine. Even if the project doesn't turn out entirely, watching the antics of dealing with the metals is A grade entertainment! This round really seemed to go smoothly for ya. The titanium played nice 👍 Love the channel!
Alec I came up with the idea last time for the Damascus darts and Alec said you should of got his name and I’d of give him the darts. So this time could I give you a type of putter and you make a Damascus golf putter and give it to Me. I’ve had the worst year ever and need something to cheer me up lol.
