I collect HOFs, superstars and players who were important to the game. My focus is graded baseball, football and hockey cards from the 1930s to 1989. I enjoy watching all kinds of sports cards related videos, even those that are not what I collect. I look for videos that are informative, show off cards and where the collector shows passion for what they have.
I enjoy the history of sports and love to share stories and information about the players I collect.
Thanks CK. Unfortunately, he left a complicated legacy behind that will be sorted out for years to come. I am glad I knew him as a player first and a controversial figure second.
Great thoughts and displays, my collecting brother! There are LeBron James cards that are worth a lot of money, but since I am not interested in collecting them, they are essentially like "commons" to me. However, I can share in someone's joy if they collect and enjoy those cards. Conversely, I absolutely love the 1952 Bowman Eddie Lopat, but not too many are interested in that card. Happy is the collector who loves his collection and it brings him joy! 😊👊
Hi Adam! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Good point about how top tier players like Lebron makes many collectors feel. I am in that camp too. I would rather have a 52 Bowman Lopat. My favorite card of the Yankees big three is the 51 Allie Reynolds. Thanks my collecting brother!
Great Show Terry ! I always thought the Cowboys had the nicest blue uniforms. Never thought about it until this Show, but I hardly ever saw them play in the old blues. I think of the Cowboys of the 90's wearing the dark blue more. Great info on that. Lydell Mitchell was a Great all around Football player. Kinda like Terry Metcalf or Mac Lane. So many great backs in the 70's. Yup its all about the meaning of cards and the memories they represent. Nice nostalgia TJMAC. C ya !
Hi Tom! The 70s into the 80s were the Golden Era running backs. There were so many good ones. Now the running game has taken a big step back to the passing game. You also don’t have as many primary backs anymore. Metcalf and Lane are good comparisons. I am glad you enjoyed this week’s journey to the not so distant path.
I agree Terry. Vintage football and hockey is still an affordable option in comparison to baseball of the same time frame. I love the old sports magazines. My favorite card is the 81 topps of the Seaver cards you showed.

I can't watch videos, make videos, curate my collection, buy cards communicate with some of my friends in the hobby and through text and email with the time I committed to the hobby. Terry, Tom Seaver has become one of my favorite players over the years. I was lucky enough to see him in Cincinnati in 1981 pitch against the Phillies and Steve Carlton. The game was scoreless until the 6th when the Reds scored two runs. Carlton was lifted in the top of the 8th when Greg Gross pinch hit for him. The Reds scored another run in the 8th on a Sac Fly. Seaver gave up a run in the Phillies scored one in the 9th, charged to Seaver, when Gross singled against Tom Hume. Pete Rose then flied out to end the game. Dave Concepcion was two for four in the game and scored one of the runs in the 6th inning. No question, it was the best game I have ever seen in person! I still have my scorecard and ticket stub from the game! I enjoyed your reflections on the early football and hockey cards although my collection does not have very many hockey cards and my football card collection is pretty limited too (mostly Steelers). I wish I was as disciplined in my collecting as you are. I'm working on sticking to the focus of my collection (Post WWII Bowman, Topps and smaller regional sets, and Pre-war Hall of Famers). Sadly, I am meeting with marginal success in doing so (lol). As always, I loved your video!

Fantastic Rose video Terry! Growing up a Dodger fan he was never my favorite player but you had to respect the way he played. Similar to what you said in the video as a kid my dad and my coaches always pointed Rose out as a player to emulate in regards to his hustle and drive. A player at any skill level can get the most out of their ability if they play with his desire. I really believe he was the key cog to the Big Red Machine teams and should have been inducted to the Hall of Fame while he was living. Rose has some amazing cards, his 64-75 run are some of my favorites. What a fantastic run you have, I have a lot of his cards and watching this made me want to grade them. Looking at his profiles at the end was cool. Love that Burger King card with him on the Phillies. Well done my friend, have a great week!
Thanks, Steve! I’m particularly proud of my 1964 to 1987 Topps Pete Rose run. It wasn’t an easy set to complete, given how many cards he has, and of course, his '60s cards aren’t cheap. The '72 is one of the first cards I acquired when I returned to the hobby over 25 years ago. I think I paid about $15 for it. Haha. Times have definitely changed! That card holds extra special meaning to me because I’ve had it for so long. Pete Rose is the reason I taught my oldest son to run to first base on a walk-hustle, hustle, hustle. You’ll also get on base a few times a year on errors because some fielders rush their throws when they see a runner charging toward the base. I’ve seen it happen over and over. Rose was the modern-day Ty Cobb, squeezing every ounce of talent he had and demonstrating an incredible mind for the game. I completely agree with you-he was the key cog in the Reds' machine and the driving force behind the Phillies' 1980 championship. I enjoyed seeing some of your Rose cards in your video today. What an incredible reflection, Terry. I think the phenomenon you’re describing begins with trust. Watching and commenting and becoming friends with fellow collectors results in a certain level of trust among us. I don’t mean to be flip, but I have no interest in Danny White or his cards. What I’m interested in is your experience with that card and why you’re presenting it to us today. And while you and I have never met or spoken, I’ve developed a trust that you’re showing me that card for a good reason. I know you’re about to teach me something about Danny, yourself or myself … or most likely all three! I know you’ve curated a story for me and used your own impeccable judgement to express yourself in a healthy and entertaining way. And I know all that because you’ve earned my trust time and time again in video after video. Thanks Terry, this was absolutely outstanding as usual.

The whole 1982 set, wow. Love that Munson, I’ve heard many collectors saying that was their first encounter with death. Another great trip into your collecting!
Thanks Zach! The 82 Topps set was a fun set to go through. Even though I opened many packs of 81 Topps back in 1981, by the time I was a teenager the Montana was very expensive, and I couldn’t by the complete set.
The blue jerseys! Ahhh the memories! 😂😂 I remember that Bills game and I remember having a pit in my stomach when Gary Hogeboom played. 1984 was the first year the Cowboys didn’t make the playoffs while I was a fan. Maybe it’s just me but 1984 felt like we wore the blue jerseys every game. It was just that kind of a season. 1982 Topps FB have great memories for me. I remember first opening those packs and being so excited to see the logos on the helmets. I loved the design. It’s almost like Topps just couldn’t wait to make them part of the design. Then came the disappointment as I pulled the Dorsett card and he was wearing the blue jersey! Oh well time to find the Danny White card. The fateful day came a couple of weeks later. Noooooooo! They put Danny in the blue jersey also! Thanks for the memories my friend. I think. 😂😂
Hi Chris, I knew this video would resonate with you, especially as a fellow blue jersey hater. Haha. Landry gave in to the players by starting Hogeboom, mainly because Danny White had sided with management during the strike. White was clearly the better quarterback, and that team should have made the playoffs. Unfortunately, years of poor drafts had already started to leave the cupboard bare. I don’t dislike the ’83 set, as I think some of the photography is beautiful, but I’m still surprised they didn’t include the logos in the design. You’re exactly right about Topps capitalizing on the logo in '82, and they did a great job with it in '84 as well. It seemed like Topps really liked featuring the blue jerseys between '80 and '86. I have certain cards in my collection that invoke so much emotion that I haven't dared shown on camera. A few of which would be darn near impossible to get through. Hi Dre, Well stated! Many diehard Cowboys fans hated the blue jerseys! Haha. They looked good but they just didn't look right unless they were wearing the white and silver. Nothing like Summerall and Madden. Summerall had the understated delivery that complimented the boisterous Madden perfectly. I saw a special on the "Fog Bowl" a week or so ago. I think Bradshaw and Verne Lundquist did that game. I remember watching it live and just being drawn in to the crazy weather that day. I hope all is well with you and Mrs. Diaz. Take care!

The curse of the blue cowboy jerseys! They should just wear them during non key games and during big games always stick to white. Lol. I hear you about death. I am too young to have been around for Thurman Munson passing away. I remember the first time hearing about family passing away was i had a relative who died in vietnam and hearing about this as a little kid. Always has stuck in my head. Great Cowboys cards. Love seeing the Danny White and Drew Pearson cards. You know how i collect. Everyone who makes it into my collection and binders hold a special place in my mind and heart for what they have done for the game or teams that they play on or even how i saw them as a kid. I have a huge collection of Brooks Kieshnick because as a fan of the cubs... well enough said there! Lol. Always enjoy Terry.

Great video Terry. They are really more than just little pieces of cardboard. For me, they are a connection to the past. I had the same experience when Elvis died. Almost exactly. I was playing out back with my next door neighbor, Mark. We weren’t playing with the green army men, but with our GI Joe’s. Not the small ones from the 80s but the bigger ones from the 70’s. I don’t exactly remember what I did afterwards but I remember the upset look on my mom’s face. I can relate with that now, when a great like Joe Morgan passes away. Terry - Couldn't agree more. I've told you many times before that you made me a better collector and taught me about looking through the card instead of just a image of the player. I'm not a fan of the blue Cowboys jersey as well. When they wear them they jus don't look right. When I think back to my youth and the Cowboy greats, Aikman, Smith, Irvin the image of them that comes to my mind without looking at a card or picture i see them in white. I mean it! I also prefer the Black but every time they wear white it reminds me of the 2005 season when they had to win their last couple games on the road to make the playoffs as 6 seed then had to win all games on the road. Then they actually chose the white because of all that so it bring me back to the sb 40 year!

I think the problem that Lydel Mitchel isn't Hall of famer is because of the players from that generation Franco Harris , Orange Juice Simpson, Walter Payton, Tony Dorsett, Larry Csonka very tough competition? So Cliff Branch , Fred Belitnikoff , Lynn Swan did not lead the league in receiving yards? is Danny White your favorite or is Roger Staubach? So you can't stand the Cowboys Dark Jerseys? so when you buy merchandise at your local sports store say Cowboys beach towel , shirts which do you like better the home the white or their road the dark color? the New Jersey Giants had the same record by tie breaker they awarded the division to New Jersey all Dallas had to do is beat Buffalo and they would havebeen in a 2-14 team beat that 10-6 team ? because Danny White didn't play had he been playing New Jersey would not have made the playoffs?
Hi Mark, I don’t know who has caught the most passes for a running back, but I believe Lydell Mitchell is the only running back to lead the NFL in receptions twice. I agree he is not in the HOF because there were a lot of other great backs then. His numbers are a little light by comparison. I like collecting Staubach more now but I have a soft spot for White because he was the QB I grew up with. From 1973 to 1979 none of those receivers led the league in receptions. They may have in yards. Pearson did in 77. I don’t wear jerseys anymore but when I did I preferred the white. As far as buying Cowboys items, a lot of them are blue, so I am okay with it. I look forward to where my collecting journey takes me. The Cowboys vs. Bills game was crazy. Back then I didn't know they would be wearing the blue jerseys. Hi Terry, i didn't know about the Dallas Cowboys bleu jersey. Looks the Dallas Cowboys played all theirs superbowls with the white jersey. I am quite superstitious and i wore the same clothes and underwears during my school tests and sports games...😁. I yet doing that in my adult life..😀. Hi Fabien, the Super Bowl against the Colts in 1971 was in their blue jerseys. They wore white in the rest. Hey it can’t hurt to be superstitious until your proven wrong. You have a great weekend too!
When someone pours out his passion about something even cards or collections, there is an immediate connection to hat story. Terry: The first thing I said to myself as I watched the opening of the video was that a Dr J RC would look very nice next to that Sport Magazine cover. haha! This was a great topic because we all have different meanings when it comes to a card. Anyone can show a PSA 6 of a card, but when someone can tell you a long history about the card, the player or the meaning of the card, that means a lot more to me. If someone just says this is a PSA 6, look how nice the corners are and then goes into VCP probably will trade or sell that card one day to get a bigger card. There is no meaning behind the purchase. A lot of people on RU-vid are doing that these days. When you show off an AFL card, you have a logical answer to why that card was purchased. it's a part of the history of the game, but even a history of you and your memory. A 1979 Topps Thurman Munson still to this day brings back memories of where you were the day he died. You didn't talk about his career or that it's a PSA 8 and how much it cost, you just told us what that card means to you and that's what's important about card collecting. I LOVE the blue jerseys the Cowboys wore in the Super Bowl against the Colts. They looked so cool in those. They rarely wore them. The Rams would also always wear white on purpose at home as well to make the Cowboys wear blue. Lydell Mitchell should never have been traded to the Chargers. Mitchell, Roger Carr and Bert Jones were the core of the Colts offense in the late 1970s. Drew Pearson never dropped a pass IMO. Joe Ferguson was a very good QB. Had he been on the Steelers, I think we'd be hearing about him more. Your cards look nicer on your channel than mine! hahaha. Have a great weekend, my friend!
Hey Rick! Yes, the Dr. J rookie would look great with that magazine. My favorite Dr. J card is the '75 Topps. If I were displaying some of my father-in-law's magazines back when I had my basketball collection, I would have saved some of the cards. He has a beautiful collection of late '60s and '70s basketball magazines. I had all the Dr. J cards through 1981. He has some great ones. I agree, Rick. Anyone can show the card, but what makes them stand out are the stories behind them. Those stories are what draw people in and explain why they have the card. Well said. Yes, the Rams would do that to the Cowboys. I remember a Monday Night Football game in L.A., either '80 or '81, when the Cowboys were in blue. They actually won that one, haha. I remember reading an article once about how different things would have been if Bradshaw had been on the Saints and Manning on the Steelers. Not to take anything away from Bradshaw-he was very good-but there's some truth to that. You can say the same thing today about Shanahan and the 49ers. QBs seem to thrive in that system, which makes me wonder about Trey Lance in Dallas. I don’t see him working out if the 49ers moved on from him so easily. Carr, Jones, and Mitchell were quite a trio. Unfortunately, Jones was hurt in '78 and was never the same. The funny thing is, the Colts did well in the Mitchell trade. They got running back Joe Washington, who led the NFL in receptions in 1979. Ted Marchibroda loved to throw to running backs. I think Mitchell was looking to get his salary doubled. Your cards look great too. I have full control of the lighting because I shoot in the basement where there’s no natural sunlight. I make sure to have backlighting in addition to the camera light. Shooting on black helps, too. Life is a matter of perspective and perspective is a funny thing. I am glad you touched on the jersey's of the Cowboys. I always wondered why they wore at home. I figured it was because white was cooler in the heat. And, I had no idea there was a superstition around the jerseys. Thank you sir.
Very true about perspective. It is interesting the moments that touch us and never leave our consciousness. I love have cards like that in my collection even if there is some sadness to it. It's part of life. Now the Cowboys blue jerseys are something I look back and laugh on. I would get so mad when I saw them. Hi Terry! There are many cards you’ve shown that didn’t interest me until you shared them. A lot of times I’ve added them to my “want list”. You always do a great job of making the card come alive. The Lydell Mitchell is a great image. Really shows the Colts jersey. I always liked the blue Cowboys jerseys but I’m too young to have known the other jerseys. I always felt the St. Louis Rams were never the same again after going to the navy and gold colors. Loved the Dr. J magazine. There’s a lot of RU-vid channels that hopefully see this video. Hey Terry, What makes your channel Stand out is exactly what you are talking about, every time you let us in on the personal experiences tied to the cards! I wish your Cowboys wore their blue uniforms more often when they were beating my Rams in the playoffs😂 Lydell Mitchell was a really good back when I was growing up! I remember Joe Ferguson when he played for the Bills, he was a solid QB! Have a great weekend!
Hey Steve! I believe you're back from vacation. If so, I hope you had a great time-what an awesome experience! I appreciate the kind words, my friend. You have one of those channels that gets me excited about collecting too. We both love the same era of cards and share a deep appreciation for the Topps sets we grew up with. Even the years I didn’t physically open packs, those cards still ended up in my collection, either from my brother or from random stacks of cards that popped up in the neighborhood. I always think of Lydell, Chuck Foreman, and McCutchen together. They were very similar, with the ability to not only run but also catch the ball. McCutchen has a beautiful rookie card. Lydell's isn’t the best photo, and Foreman's is just okay. You have a great weekend too.

Very Comments, Terry. I agree that the connection and insighta collector a has adds so much to how a card can be seen. That memory with Munson isa of us experienced with these larger than life athletes. I'm a big fan of Danny White. The '82 set is fantastic. Topps did a good job of taking advantage of being able to use logos again the helmets in the design. The blue jerseys 😁 Those are some great '77 pickups. Definitely Mitchell's best card... Love the 1k design that year too. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Brian! I think all of us recall our first experience with the death of someone who meant something to us, whether it was a family member or a public figure. That was mine. I love having the '82 White because it brings back memories of those blue jerseys, and how much I couldn’t stand them. I thought of you when I got the Mitchell and Ferguson, knowing you just completed your '77 set. Have a great weekend!
@@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 yeah that's very true. My first experience with that was actually Jim morrison. He had passed away before I was even born but I remember my parents having a VHS copy of a concert they had since. I used to watch that over and over and just loved it. I actually didn't even have a thought as to when it had been recorded and assumed they were still around and making music. Then one day my dad told me that the lead singer had died many years before and it just broke my heart. That was the first memory I ever had with that. Danny White was a very good player and they had a lot of success back then before the tough years later on... Before the dynasty.
