Come join me along my sketching journey. My goal is to sketch everyday for one year and to see the improvement from the practice. I've been an artist for years and it's my full time job but never really sketched. I came across Urban Sketching and fell in love and it was a challenge at first but I see my sketching getting better everyday. I will share with you some tips and tricks that have helped me to improve my daily sketches.
I have learned that I/we should practice sketching everyday. I don't have a steady hand, for the straight lines, but, Karen, you do, from daily sketching. Go girl!
How fun that someone shared such an adorable photo. Here in the desert SW where I am it’s all fairly new, which is nice, but there’s not a lot of charm. I was wondering how you were going to tackle the menu flyers in the window. Nicely done! Another successful urban sketch! Oh my gosh I hope you do order ice cream from them. I can’t wait to hear how ice cream faire’s when it is shipped. Don’t tell me! I’m watching these in order. Thanks for such a fun video! Cheers. Now to deal with that grumble! 🍨
Your story about non-artist is funny, I'm the same way with my photography. I'll being driving down a road, go by something and slam on brakes to turn around and my wife will say, "what are you doing" and I'll say, "didn't you see that neat looking house, building, sign, or barn? I get it.
Adorable little bungalow! Boy those chairs played tricks on me! Sometimes they looked like they were facing me and then my brain would finally turn them around like they are supposed to be. It’s crazy! I painted my sisters new house for her as a gift while I was on vacation. I was happy with it and so was she! I’ve done this for a few friends now and they really seem to like it.
Hello! Iv’e been gone for a bit. We had to get away from the heat here in AZ for a bit so we took the RV north to the mountains and hid for a while, there was no internet so we got do detox from our devices for a bit. But I really missed watching my art videos. I’m so glad to be able to see your videos again. How very exciting that a local business wanted to choose a local artist! I find that awesome! Your duckies are adorable. I did go to your website to see your other artwork. Wow…..just Wow. Such talent! You wizzed right through this drawing, you’re getting so fast. I thought you were funny about the music…. You’re right though….. it’s just music and if you don’t like it turn on something you do like! Please don’t fuss. lol. 🎶 🎵. Anyway. I’ll catch ya on the next one. Have an amazing day!
Hi, I was thinking about you yesterday. Sounds like a wonderful trip expecially the detox part. It must be so much fun to travel by RV! Glad you back and safe, now you have a lot of catching up to do on all your art videos 😂 💕
How do you like this paper your are using? I have some the Masters Touch from Hobby Lobby and I don't like the way it breaks down easily when doing wet-on-wet applications. The fibers tend to come loose from the surface.
Right now I like Arches and lately I'm playing around with hot press and love it but may not be great for wet on wet because it dries fast. You would be better off using 100% cotton for wet on wet. Hope this helps 😊
Another artis demonstrated the use of toothpaste to achieve similar results for a plastic palette.i haven’t tried for metal nor plastic. Anyone else? Mary
This is lovely! I loved the way you achieved clouds. I'm glad you're safe and dry! Glad for you too that you had a good time with your Mil and family💞 The colours in your little pallet look juicy and bright, what make are they? I never would've thought of gluestick!!😅 Keep well. Mx
I can't believe the destruction in Helene's path, it's heartbreaking. You think you live somewhere safe but you never know. We were okay this time but I hear October may be bad. The palette is Artpop and it came with 12 high pigmented colors, It's the one I bought from Dick Blick. I added 6 Windsor Newton colors to the palette. Thanks for the well wishes 💕
Cool your palette. And thank you to upgrade our views of your channel. The glue stick? Ouf incredible. I never thought that will that efficient. Super top and super sketch.
I have a drafting table that angles but then everything will roll off so I'm using an old wood palette that I propped up with a small roll of bubble wrap. I'll have to share that in a video. Thank you for watching 💕
I saw someone use baking soda and a tooth brush but that didn't work for me. It was a great way to clean the palette if you have stains. My mother in laws face lite up when she saw me. What a gift that was. 🥰 Thank you for watching and the lovely comment. 💕
I was getting worried that you wouldn’t use any of opera pink, but you finally threw some in there so I can breathe easily again 😂😂😂 I love your new attitude about sketching and your 20 minute videos ❤❤❤
I like what you call the grunge! It's effective. Well I think so anyhow. And I see you're using an actual pen for the sketc! Hmm is that part of the arts treats you got for yourself?!? 😊 Does the ink clogg the nib at all in between using the pen? Mx
I think that will be awesome if you do quick 20 minute loose ink and watercolour tutorials. Honestly, I love your style, I have learned so much from watching you and doing all your tutorials, thank you
@@KarenJohnsonArtist Just wanted to tell you that I am from Western Canada and visit my friend on Anna Maria Island every second year. I love especially seeing buildings from there and am heartbroken at what Helene has done. Two years ago when visiting we had a hurricane go through as well. I hope you and your family are safe - the destruction is just horrific
@@susantripp2249Hi, I hope to visit Anna Maria someday. We have been lucky with storms up until end of September. I’m nervous for what October will bring. Thank you for reaching out and hope your friend is okay.
Personally I like it better with a little bit more details and less loose. And more contrast like you used to do. I guess I'll just have to watch the old stuff. It's good to explore various styles I guess 😊
I really enjoyed this one ❤ Have fun at Dick Blick! I used to go to the one in Berkeley. Hope you’re not in the storm’s path. We are on Atlantic side & should be good 👍🏼
Glad you liked it! I'm trying to find that artistic style that's not to detailed or loose. It's a big storm!!! We are on high ground thankfully but I feel bad for all that will be affected. 💕
Nice the idea to buy a small pallet then we can see your mix. Better the idea to encourage our art supplies store, and other, instead of Amazon. At my sense even if it’s more expansive, it help our business to stay alive.
I always try to support the small businesses and agree with you. With Amazon being linked to the products helps me a even smaller business because I get a small percent on purchases. Thank you for you support 💕
This is really cute! There was an old post office near me, but USPS shut it down and it is now occupied by a florist/nursery store. The new occupant painted and moved the main door. I wonder what happened to the old mailboxes inside. Hmm, I will go visit.
I have a little post office in a strip mall near me called Sip and Send. They sell wine and gifts. It's a hidden gem and way more fun than the dreary grey post office.
Hi, new subscriber. Greetings from Melbourne, Australia. So nice to see your face and your space. And your cute little dog too. I mostly water colour and I would love to learn more about Urban Sketching and the loose pretty sketches you do.
