Who designed the "Chicken Tractor"? Will there be more eggs hatched this summer? While watching I was wondering who was going to get pushed out first. So very cute. How long after they hatch do they start eating and drinking?
I had a general idea of what I needed and then my Dad turned my thoughts into the chicken tractor! We are actually starting a second batch of eggs in the morning! The chicks dont need to eat or drink right away, but we offered them food and water once they were all hatched.
Taking the family for an outing...LOVE the music. Now instead of just two hissing geese you have 8 hissing geese...YIKE!!! Wow how they have grown...how many males and how many females?
It's amazing how deep compost was. It looks so rich. The garden will love it. This is why you have such healthy beautiful veggies!! Was that room, room! Ian was riding? I think the sheep are going to love it when they go back in the barn. It looks great.😊
@@quackersplatfarm I suppose why I asked was we live near the Laurel Race Track and on HOT day the ammonia smell is quite overwhelming. On a side note...when we had a compost out back the same thing happened. I started looking into it and found out using cat litter on my compost helped remove the odor.
It was so deep when you moved the water bucket in the beginning. You can tell how big the sheep barn is when you see the tractor going inside. I liked seeing the goose family show up. :-)
Questions: What are you going to do with the wool? Have you ever shear them? One of my favorite parts of this video is how you trained them to a whistle to come in at night. Has it always been one special person who whistles them in? Just wondering if someone else whistled them in would they respond. As always thank you for sharing.
I can't whistle so on rare occasions if I have to call them in myself, I have to loudly sing the tune. They aren't picky, thankfully! We had 2 sheep over the years that didn't shed, so we had to shear them for summer. It's harder than it looks! I saved up the wool and we finally had a use for it this year! We built an insulated bee hive and used the wool as insulation. It's not fancy wool for spinning, the 2 sheep that we collect wool from are a wool/hair mix, so alot of their wool has thicker straight hairs in it.
I love watching you pull the weeds . It is so satisfying to do that ,and relaxing. Hearing the rain on the hoop house sounds wonderful. I could take a nap in there. You guys got it really cleared out and ready for planting. 😊
I can't believe how big some of the babies are. That's looks like it feels so good when you take the wool off her. I can feel the relief. I like the whistle sound for calling the sheep. It's cool!! 😊
Yikes, sounds like quite the adventure getting the pasture ready! Dealing with feisty animals like Harold can definitely make the work more interesting. How did you handle the situation? Do you often share your farming experiences or encounters with animals on Instagram? I'd love to hear more about your farming adventures!
Okay how did they get back in their pen? Did they do it on their own ...OR...did someone volunteer to corral them? Three acres is a pretty large area. I know you said they pretty much stay close to their pen. Do you have to keep an eye on them because of flying predators? They all are looking health.
So far they go back into the pen on their own near sunset and then we close their gate and get the sheep locked in the barn too. Flying predators are the biggest threat in daytime. I hope that with both parents nearby, the babies will be okay. Harold always watches the sky.
I love watching these guys. The big guy trying to get though the fence like the babies do was funny.Bird brain coming up on the screen, I laughed so hard. The goslings are getting bigger. It looks like the chicken wire will work.. I loved it.
Yep, they all survived! 2 of the boy ducks have died in recent years, but 4 of them are still doing well. The kids do grow so fast. He was only 4 in that video!
I just found your channel & subscribed! What a wonderful harvest. I love delicata squash ( the one you had baked)! We buy our squash at a local farm by the bushel and it stores well over the winter. I would love to have a garden like that. You are living my dream! How much land do you have, and where are you located?
Delicata is my favorite! We have 16 acres but half is forest. I'm in Washington state, south of the olympic mountains almost in the middle of nowhere 😁 The first 30+ years of my life I lived in the suburbs on the east coast. This has always been my dream <3
Wow Harold just so over the top!! He scares me ,and I am just watching him from my phone. Lol😅. I love watching those cute little ones. Those greens look delicious 😋.
Harold needs a holding pen so you can change their water and feed them. He is so protective. I would imagine his bite would really hate. Tending to these geese would not be my favorite chore. Q: What did you pick from your garden to feed them?
I picked some radishes that went to seed and the rest was claytonia (also called miners lettuce). It comes up as a weed but I welcome it because it's really tasty.
I would suggest that you watch some gold panning videos.Dan Hurd Prospecting is a good channel to see how he pans. If you have black sand then you should have more gold than just a little spec. A good video though. I am hoping to be back to catch a few more soon.
I am excited about the baby starting to grow horns. The little brown and white baby looks like it a black ring around it's eye. Am I seeing right or did I have an optical allusion? 😅. I love how they stand on the tree stumps, so cute. They are really growing up. Look so healthy.
What variety of gourd were the first ones at the start of the video? they are so cool looking. Amazing harvest, a lot of work had to have been put in so it's nice to have such a harvest as reward for all the hard work!
I love this video! Great idea using orange strings! I love watching Harold trying to get the strings. He's so funny. The grass is so nice and fresh . 😊
Are you allowing the eggs to hatch? Do you think Harold will make a good father...or will he be mean? What happened to the eggs in the past? He keeps everyone on their toes. As for the wire can the lambs see color? I could hardly see the orange cord.
Typically we collect the eggs each day and eat them. Many years ago, she hatched out 1 baby but it died from something called wry neck. He was a very good father despite him being sooo mean to us!
When I saw the lamb jump up on the stump it reminded me of baby goats jumping around and up on whatever they can. I would assume since two of the lambs can escape the fenced in area you would have to monitor them for now until they grow a little larger. Thank you for taking the time to share.
