Thanks for the great review, wondered if his upgrades are worth anything. But I'm waiting to hear your review on the Wiim Ultra. From what I hear it's going to do very well.

These measures don’t convince me. I have bought Gustard X26 because its measures are high. Awful DAC. No midrange, no vibrato, poor sound.

Over many many years I’ve assembled a premium hi-fi rig which reproduces music the way I prefer to hear it. The problem is, I live in an apartment block, so have to be respectful of neighbours. So, I decided to invest in a premium pair of headphones. I ended up paying far more than I wanted $4500 but they met the criteria I was looking for and offered excellent performance to price ratio. Could I get better for less? Probably! Anyways, after they arrived, and I’d given then chance to ‘burn in’, or more likely given my auditory system to become accustomed to their sonic characteristics, I started looking for a replacement cable. The stock cable was far too long, 3 meters! Also, frequently when I unplugged the cable from the headphones, the rubber sleeve that covers and protects??? the plug, would slide off, leaving bare wires, exposed. When I browsed the manufacturers website, the box they came in cost $79. The carry case they supplied cost $229. Replacement ear pads cost $139 each and that 3 meter cable cost $319! I started wondering how little I’d actually paid for the headphones. They did not offer an alternative cable. After much searching I did find suppliers of alternative cables ranging from $49 to $1299. I ended up purchasing a 1.5 meter cable for $119. It comes with a lifetime guarantee and has far superior terminations. It’s slightly thicker and slightly more rigid, so is far less likely to tangle. Does it offer an improvement or degradation in audio reproduction? Not that I can notice.

The "Ginger Geezer" (pursuit perfect system) did a review of this ACRS (audiophile cash removal system) and virtually every person commenting on the video claimed to hear significant improvements. Typical nonsense quotes such as "blacker backgrounds" (sorry, are we talking about audio here, or video? 😆). This truly has to be amongst the most Elite Level "ACRS" devices on the market. Even audiophile power cords and fuses can't touch this thing in the absurdity stakes. This is on a par with "cable lifters". All the debunking videos in the world won't stop this terrible crap from being sold, recommended & purchased by morons. It's sad. Someone is getting rich from this nonsense, and the "audiophiles" seem happy, so maybe it's a win-win after all 🙄 This is the hifi equivalent of homeopathy, and you can buy that rubbish at virtually every pharmacy around the world. Lies, deceit, fools, and placebo. And more lies. I'm almost tempted to get some fuses knocked up in China with a matte black finish, some gold accents, a silly brand name, fancy packaging, and sell them at $90 a pop. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em 😆

Brilliant! And although The Beatles Mono mixes are not a great as the final production from Steely Dan's Aja or Donald Fagan's Nightfly, I know how those mixes should sound, and evaluating Studio Monitors or HiFi speakers I will use this methodology even if I have to just crank the balance to Left Stereo or Left Mono. Thank you for sharing this solid science, Amir. I am a believer!

Danny really is a snake oil professor! It should not be a blind test, it should be a DOUBLE blind test. The people listening shouldn't know anything about the cables, including price. As soon as you know ANY information, you'll be biased. Simple. Any electronics engineer will know this. Oh, and his frequency responses for his own "measurements" are gated/smothed too so always looks better than it is.

Wifi won't as much as lose packets but collisions in the Wi-Fi network will cause retransmissions. For this reason hardwire as much as possible. Other than that the concept of an audiophile switch is laughable. UDP is actually preferable for certain audio applications SIP for instance, protocol used for VOIP is mostly UDP. If you have a lot of jitter in your home network you have a networking issue, and most likely not a hardware issue. Sidenote if you guys "Buy" the BS of an audiophile audio switch then I suggest you pair it with one of my personally made Cat-6e audio grade straight-through cables, they adhear to the T568B wiring standard for Ethernet cables and is recognized by ANSI TIA AND EIA, it's only a 30x markup over a normal 6e cable (if you know you know). Cause of you have money to spend on this shit you sure has hell have 100 bucks to spend on one of my cables....

Sir, I do admire your work and your site is the reference I use before buying audio gear - however ... earth can be seen as a conductor. As an experiment, get a copper bar, put in completely into the earth (with nice humidity); get a lamp and connect one terminal to a live wire and the other to the cooper bar - check what happens to the lamp. Now ... adding a second earth to the system is not only illegal - it also contributes to ground loops. What the code says here in Brazil is that for sensitive equipment the ground wire should have the same gauge as the neutral and live wires. Why is that? Those systems are sensitive to ground loops so if we ground everything with good thick wires then there won't be ground loop because all devices will be at the same reference point. For very sensitive devices ground wires will have the same length to avoid having devices on different voltage potentials. Ground also helps drain EMI from cable shields. Now ... how much that appears in audio I don't know - I know when I hear it and I had ground loops that were noticeable.

I love these videos from Amir so much that even re-watching them is a pleasure 😊 People like Danny, and so many "home hifi audiophiles" possess just enough knowledge to be a danger to themselves. "Elements of truth" which they concoct into pure "Huile de Serpent". The "audiophiles", generally middle-aged guys who work non-technical desk jobs but consider themselves to be an authority on audio, they at least have the "excuse" of not having any real technical knowledge, but Danny... working in the industry... that's just embarrassing that he'd reveal his deep lack of technical prowess. The modern definition of "audiophile" almost needs to be rewritten, redefined, as a hifi enthusiast who enjoys looking for solutions to non-existent problems, typically with "remedies" which only work if they cost thousands of dollars. It really has become that silly. Having a British accent and appearing distinctly middle-class (well, aside from that "ginger geezer" on Pursuit Perfect System, and that softly -spoken Aussie guy) seems to be another hallmark of those suffering from Terminal Audiophilia Syndrome 😂 Anyway, thankfully we have Amir, Gene DellaSalla, and a few others to bring some sanity back to proceedings! It's many years since I've attended any kind of hifi trade show, but I dont think i could stomach it these days - the air must be positively thick with the smell of BS and daft people lapping it all up. 😂

Products like this don't, unfortunately, make me "proud to be British". Just more over-priced, esoteric, so-called "high end" stuff. If it were priced around $250 it would be "ok", I guess. But then it would lose its high-end audio snobbery appeal, right?! Personally, I'd rather have one of the better offerings from Topping/SMSL/etc. 🤷‍♂️

I've always been FIRMLY in the "cables make no difference" camp (with the obvious caveat that minimum specs must still be met). For home audio, Amazon Basics is essentially as good as anyone needs. On the professional side, these days I use 12G HD-SDI cable (Belden) and 12G-rated BNCs for every cable I make up. In many cases, 3G would suffice, and 12G won't (of course) give me "better" results, but I like to be able to re-use cables and know that any cable will work with any piece of equipment in my system. It's quite amusing how people into "audiophilia" are typically guys with surplus disposable income and precious little idea about how electronics work, aside from repeating rubbish they've been told at some HiFi show or whatever. They have just enough knowledge to be a danger to themselves (and their bank balance!). The "high end" manufacturers are taking their customers for absolute fools, yet the buyers lap it up, and defend it to the hilt. Crazy! Amir, Gene DellaSalla, and others like them are the saviours of sanity in the world of hifi. Sadly, many people (eg. cheapaudioman) purport to be "down to Earth", "the voice of reason", etc. yet shill garbage like audiophile power cords. Thankfully, I don't need to take advice on cables from RU-vidrs (no offense, Amir!) but I very much appreciate these debunking videos. Unfortunately, the "believers" in audio mysticism don't want to face facts. Their loss, their bank balance! They really ought to know that the manufacturers are literally taking them for fools though!

Absolutely quality review. I'm 76 and have been an audiophile since my late teens (Fisher 400 anyone?). I've owned many, many audio devices over the years. Some expensive and others inexpensive. I've bought and sold amps/pre, speakers, DAC's, tape recorders, TT, CD/SACD, portables, etc., etc. more than I can remember. Have I ever "fell" for the cable scam...yes but within reason. Never more than a couple hundred dollars for a pair of balanced/unbalanced as well as speaker wire. I've always argued that I could not hear any difference between the models/brands regardless of price/quality construction. So, thanks a lot for proving this old man has not been crazy all these years.

I used 8050s when I was a recording engineer. I auditioned dozens of near field monitors before choosing the Genelecs. Event Opals came in second place. You can turn off the tweeter with a DIP switch. I don't remember if you can turn off the woofer. The 8050s are too large for my room so I use 8030s with a sub for occasional music mixing and 8020s with a sub as my desktop monitors now.

In view of the directivity behaviour, the solution with a parametric EQ seems to me to be the most intelligent variant. Considering the cost of the new crossover and assuming the original price of the speaker, buying a different speaker is the better choice. With most tuning measures, the expense is not in relation to the result.

Late to this thread, but I'm pretty content with the performance/main components of my modest HiFi system so naturally my mind has been drifting toward potential 'enhancements' to get the most out of it 🙂. Late one night, after a great listening session and some web surfing I ordered a knock-off Nordost ODIN Gold power cord from aliexpress for like 50-60.00USD. It came pretty fast and was surprisingly well made, but of course made no audible difference that I could discern with my Lyngdorf 1120. I'll admit, I'm still slightly curious about isolators for speakers and components and would love to see Amir do similar testing on some of these, but my gut is telling me that they are probably of similar snake-oil/placebo grade with regards to audible improvements.

The beauty of tube amps is that you can build something that makes decent sound with simple circuits and upgrade your design over time. When you buy a benchmark of purifi amp it's done. If you are really really good at designing you might be able to build a pre amp stage for you purifi module but most wouldn't even dare to do so.

Amir I bought a pair of Audiophonics Purifi mono amps, they turn off after just maybe 15 minutes. They come back on, then go silent. Any ideas? They are set to the correct voltage and gain for my Mcintosh C49. Moderate volume of KEF R7 metas. Really disappointing after hearing so many good things about the company. I was about to order the Boxem mono amps for another system but not now.

If you don't know what parts effect the sound you can't tell if it's working or not? Up or down for the capacitor value ? Same for the resistors? And the inductors ? Only then can you make design changes? And know why ! If you tune a guitar you know if you're flat or sharp ? Music reproduction is the same! How many people check the tuning of equipment like a musical instrument? If it can reproduce the notes correctly then you have a excellent baseline. I don't know how many designers are musicians? But it doesn't show in their products.

Frankly, the idea that his upgraded crossovers don’t improve sound quality is ridiculous. You mentioned phase, coherency, directivity, etc. that’s bullshit and you know that. You yourself have even noticed the improvement in a pair of klipsch . I do agree with your overview of this power cable, however. I upgraded a pair of speakers and it was night and day.

Thanks for this video - confirming my own thoughts, I already started questioning. I'm new in this audiophile rabbit-hole - but have an IT background and (at least like to think) some common sense. Watching a lot of YT-information lately stumbled upon another channel of a shop producing nice videos.. and as I consider buying a replacement cable for my headphone (original is unnecessary long and I would try balanced) I stumbled upon a cable video, where they praised all kinds of weird sounding statements about their 200$ usb-cables, which totaly did not match with my amateur understanding of how USB, DAC and electronics in general work.
