Every year on the anniversary of her death, I re-watch these videos. It's hard to even look at the comments because they're just absurd and gross. As someone who's read the coroner's report, just about everything available about her final days, and who's been able to exchange several lengthy emails with Amy's mother Janice (who used to be quite active on Twitter years ago) ,it makes it even more frustrating when I see nasty commentary from people who know nothing. First, this video was taken 3 days before Amy's death, and she got on stage to drum up support for her goddaughter, Dionne, who was the one performing that night, not Amy. She was never expected to perform herself. Prior to this particular evening, Amy had been sober for three weeks, and she WAS getting help from a doctor who she checked in with on an almost daily basis. The doctor provided most of what is known about Amy's final days, and she spoke with Amy Friday evening, July 22nd, just hours before her death. Amy told the doctor she had been drinking on and off for about 3 days, which would have started the day that this video was taken. She does look a bit intoxicated here, but actually much healthier than she had been in quite awhile... especially after the Belgrade concert, when she looked practically catatonic. I suspect the thought of getting back up on a stage for ANY reason was probably enough to send Amy's anxiety through the roof (she was known to have terrible stage fright) and some people close to her have suggested that the relapse was fueled by seeing a tabloid report that day that her ex, Blake, became a father by his new GF. Amy desperately wanted children but couldn't get pregnant due to her substance abuse issues and poor health resulting from her eating disorder. Amy told her doctor, Dr. Romete, that despite some setbacks, she didn't want to die, but she remained opposed to trying any kind of evidence-based treatment modalities for her drinking or her mental health, and wanted to do it her way. As a long-time drug and alcohol counselor, I know many people who resist doing the real inner work required to stay clean and sober on a long-term basis because it requires looking at parts of ourselves we used drugs and alcohol to numb and/or bury all those years. While Amy had quit using drugs, she struggled to accept that she would never be able to moderate her use of alcohol, and she insisted she would find a way to drink socially, without falli g into the trap of overconsuming. Again, as someone who's worked in the field for a very long time, the research on addiction and the brain clearly shows (through thousands of brain scans and cadaver samples) that overuse or abuse of alcohol or drugs can permanently alter the brain functions that manage our survival mechanisms (i.e. the pleasure center) and our ability to make good choices, and more often than not, these changes aren't reversible, so that individuals who.previously quit can then move forward and begin consuming those substances again without overindulging or becoming physically dependent. Anyway... all of this to say that people shouldn't speak ill of the dead without first being properly informed or educated. Amy was a one in a million talent with an incredibly unique voice and a generous spirit, especially where children were concerned. I hope she rests in peace.

Su novio, el cantante Tyler James, entregó una muestra de su trabajo a una productora, de inmediato fue convocada, y con solo 16 años firmó su primer contrato con Simon Fuller. Tres años más tarde, el productor Darcus Beese escuchó unas grabaciones suyas, quedó pasmado, no podía creer lo que oía, quedó obsesionado, no podía creer que aún no fuera una estrella. En 2003 todo se desencadenó, Beese la contactó y se la presentó a Nick Gatfield, quien de inmediato le ofreció un jugoso contrato con EMI. Ese mismo año, producido por Salaam Remi salió a la venta su álbum debut "Frank", que llegó a disco de platino en el Reino Unido. Comenzó a recibir ofertas de conciertos por todo el mundo, en 2006 afianzó su éxito con su segundo álbum "Back to black" que llegó al número uno en Inglaterra. Pronto llegaron los reconocimientos, 6 Grammys, 3 Ivor Novello, 1 Brit Award, 1 MTV Music Award y 1 World Music Award. Amy dominaba varios estilos, Soul, Blues, Ska y Rhythm and blues, lo que no podía dominar era su adicción al alcohol. Pese a tener solo 2 discos de estudio, Amy era una estrella, era codiciada por productores y colegas para sus proyectos, ella comenzó a participar en varios de ellos como el de Quincy Jones, pero hubo un llamado que la impactó, el de Tony Bennett. Tony preparaba su álbum "Duets II" y depositó en Amy la esperanza que fuera la estrella del disco, no se equivocó, la versión de "Body & Soul" es antológica. Antes que el disco viera la luz, Amy falleció por una intoxicación por exceso de alcohol en sangre el 23 de julio de 2011, Tony decidió que el disco viera la luz el día de su cumpleaños, el 14 de septiembre.

This is her refusing to preform. It seems like she is sober here and just refusing to sing. We have all seen her not sober and she would not be able to clap on beat. This is her just giving the finger and saying I’m not signing and I want this girl to take the spot light
I still breaks my heart in 2024...who knows what she would have given us in songs. I would have loved to hear her do something with The Heavy or Adele. I miss her so much. It hurts.

Amy's father Mitch did everything he could to help her. Even got her to go to Rehab. I really believe what really killed Amy was Bulimia. Being Bulimic made her body so weak. She could not tolerate any alcohol or drugs.
