As a drummer of 49 years( started when I was 10) that loved and attempted to cover Neil for decades, I understand how difficult it is to nail a Rush song. You are really impressive. I wish I had videos like this back in the day. Would’ve been a lot easier to learn Neil’s drum parts. You are helping a whole generation of young drummers. Please keep it going. Again, impressive.
@@bhenrydrum77 when I started playing at 16, 34 years ago, I cut my teeth on Neil’s parts…laboured over them, agonized over them….played them constantly.
@@CaseyLewis understand that so well. Agonizing is a great way to put it😂😂. Every year they put a new album out I was blown away trying to figure out the new things Neil was doing. His passing was a sad day for all of us who listened and were amazed. Still miss him. He impacted countless drummers.
@@DinaDAndrea You’re so kind! Even though I love almost every single Rush song, this song in particular means the world to me, resonating with the teenage misfit that I grew from. When Neil died, I sat in my chair and wept for about an hour, then set up my cameras, mica and lights in a hurry and recorded this. That’s why I look so sad in the video. I love them so much! 🖤
@@CaseyLewis I feel this so much and couldn’t agree more. There is truly no other band like them, and Neil was certainly one of a kind. Your band, though, is quite good!! Ever come to Windsor, Ontario to tour?
@@DinaDAndrea Not often! We have some lower ON shows in September: Toronto, Hamilton and London, but that’s the closest we get for the foreseeable future, I’m afraid!
@@CaseyLewis that’s still a trek!! Btw I would love to hear you do a 2112 cover!! Or Malignant Narcissism. Or any of their other several amazing songs 😆
@@DinaDAndrea I think there is poorly recorded video camera footage somewhere of me performing Overture/Temples with some friends as part of a tribute show. But you definitely wouldn’t hear Rush at a Belvedere show…haha.
@@DinaDAndrea thank you so much! It’s a challenging one, no doubt! Especially since there was no metronome track in the stems, everything is footloose and fancy free. So locking it up was a listening challenge! 🥰
Rush is my favourite band and this is my favourite song. You rocked it. From the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Keep making music ❤
I saw these guys 2 weeks ago in Australia but spent the entire time just in awe at not only how fast but constant and insane amount of endurance he had. One of the best drummers I've ever seen live.
Great job!!! I don't know how your voice is but, if you can, and have Geddy's range, that's special....in my younger days, I played and sang Limelight, Red Barchetta, Spirit of Radio, Digital Man, Tom Sawyer, Entre Nous, New World Man and a few others that don't immediately come to mind..again KUDOS to ya, brother!!!👍👍👍👍👍
ummmmmm..........you my friend are LEGEND. I was just watching you nail "Subdivisions"; mouthing the lyrics and wondering if you could sing. This answers that question in aces. I have subbed! Rock on Bro!
Thanks so much, man! I really appreciate that! (And well spotted in subdivisions, I was actually full-on singing while I was playing it…when the drum tracks were soloed I could hear my voice in the overheads a little bit…haha)
Just a question.... Why do you have your Hi-hat som up high? It is a max height. It is destroying your drumsticks... It seems odd to me.. I keep low and nice i'm high. We are all different.
That was incredible. I thought you were using double bass pedals but to do with with just one is inspirational. I’ve tried for 40 years to play with 2 feet but it’s never really worked for me. Maybe I should try your approach. Any pointers as how you got your single pedal work so fast and precise?
Thanks so much! I appreciate it. ☺️ As for the speed, there’s really no shortcut, I’m sad to say. There are several techniques that people use to achieve those kinds of fast doubles, the one I use it most closely related to toe slide technique, although I move my foot position much less than most toe slide players. Having the right kick pedal settings for your technique and body also helps. Then the rest is just practice, practice!
Thanks man. I bloody knew what the answer is lol, just hoping to avoid it! It looks like you use your ankle to achieve the speed rather than the whole leg or big toe slide moves, is that right? I’ll have to go…er… PRACTICE that!
@@funland108 one of the major secrets to all effective drumming, or maybe all effective fast movement in general, is to minimize the amount of large muscle groups that you have to use. Ankle, foot, even toes a little bit. The whole leg is big and heavy and takes more energy. Same with hands: I use WAY more finger movement than arm.
Outstanding dude. When I saw the kit I wasn’t so sure but this is easily the most accomplished cover of a Rush song I’ve seen. Loved the tasteful double bass work at the end - you made it your own. Bravo 👏
